“Amazing rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2014

My wife and I arrived at 11:00 in the morning to the Kauai Lagoons, and were immediately amazed by the beauty of the grounds of this property. We checked in immediately, which was a quick process with a very friendly staff though because we were there so early our room was not yet ready, which was completely understandable. At 2:00 pm, a whole 2 hours before checkin time, we were called and notified our room was now available and off to the room we were.

The rooms were truly amazing. The patio door is an accordion style full glass door which opens up onto a very large patio. We did have a 3-bedroom, so our patio was also a little larger than the 2-bedroom rooms. The living room was a great size as was the dining portion of the room. the kitchen was filled with state of the art appliances that were all stainless steel. The first and second bedrooms were connected to the dining/living/kitchen room as was bathroom number 2. Bathroom number 1, which was the master bathroom was connected to the master bedroom. The third bedroom was accessed by walking down a long hallway and past the laundry room, where bathroom number 3 and bedroom number 3 were located. For this bedroom, it was a rather private layout.

The grounds to the hotel were very nicely manicured and equipped with 2 fire pits and several gas grills, that were used quite a bit during our stay. The hotel also has a nice 2-level pool, although it was a little small, and an oversized hot tub.

The only reason I gave the hotel 4 instead of 5 stars is the lack of other amenities. There was a market place, but it was much smaller and had less selection than other Marriott timeshare properties. There was also no other way to get food, no restaurant, bar or anything else. They also did not have bell service, which I generally use to help with luggage. There was not a business center or computers to print your boarding passes, just not a lot of other amenities that one would expect. You also cannot use the amenities at the Marriott next door for free, which I found a tad strange, and my wife and I paid $100 for a day pass to use their facilities.

If you can get past the limited amenities, this is a terrific place to stay. The staff is friendly, the rooms are amazing, and you really cannot go wrong staying here.

Location was great, very convenient to the airport without jet noise. Good hiking options around the perimeter, golf course, resort grounds, beach.

Love the layout of the three-
bedroom condo, especially the huge balcony.

The staff was extremely polite and always helpful.

Nice workout room and pool.

No pool bar, so we brought our own.

Beach access was next-door at the Marriott resort. Marriott Lagoon residents are not allowed to use beach/pool chairs at the Marriott resort. Unless you can finagle a day pass, like we did. They will however, happily allow you to use their pool bar and concession stand.

We got beach chairs and cooler from Walmart. There is also a Costco and Kmart.

The lagoons was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed. The property was beautifully landscaped and overlooked the mountains and the ocean. We stayed in a 2 bedroom and it was well equipped, nicely decorated with top notch appliances. It was very peaceful and serene. The only disadvantage is they do not have a restaurant or bar. If you are by the pool, you have to go in your condo and make your own drinks. Other than that, this was heaven!

For golfer's this is a great place as the Lagoons Ocean course is so awesome. For those with lots of children, not so wonderful. There is a much larger at the pool at the Kauai Marriott at Kalapaki Beach. Also more activities on site. This seems to be more adult friendly and we loved it after spending three weeks on Maui around Spring/Easter Break. The peace and quiet here is a much needed respite and a great way to end our vacation. The sound proofing is great as it is almost right on the airport!
One problem is the AC in the second bedrooms. We called to get it fixed and were told that the way they engineered the vents, there is very little one can do to get the second or third bedrooms cold. If you don't have allergies, leaving the windows open is an option.

I am a lifetime Platinum member with Marriott, so I've stayed in a lot of properties. This is one of the best. When reading reviews I usually search for the negative ones, just to see if any trends emerge. After staying at this property, I did realize a trend had emerged among the negative reviewers - they were all chronic complainers. I don't see how you could negatively review Marriott's Kauai Lagoons. Maybe if you completely ignored all their attempts to make sure you understand this is an unusual Vacation Club Property, without an on-site restaurant, you could find something wrong. Maybe if you prefer maddening crowds and hate the fact that every single suite is ocean view, you could write something negative. But the truth is, when you arrive at this place, it looks like it has been expecting you. And you'll feel that way until the moment you leave. And trust me, you won't want to leave!

Room Tip: If you do not want pool noise, ask for building A. It is also the closest to the workout room and...

We exchanged through interval for this resort and went April 2014. If you're looking for a place that has absolutely beautiful villas which are spacious and equipped with a full kitchen and washer and dryer this is the resort for you. This was actually a a Ritz- Carlton bought by Marriott and we especially enjoyed our balcony because the complete living room sliding glass doors open up for the amazing ocean view. The staff was great and allowed us to have a late check out as our flight was late. Joanna helped us book our tubing adventure and they are all very knowledgable about the island so gave us good advice for the Napilli coast hike. You can also get boogie boards from them to use at no cost and also the property is huge so if your like biking they are also available. This resort is only 5 minutes from the airport and close to safeway walmart and costco. Some people said the plane noise bothered them when I read reviews but we didn't find that to be the case cuz we were out most of the day and at night I don't think they had any flights coming in I'm sure my husband would have noticed cuz he's a light sleeper. For you ladies out there , there is a walk in closet in the master bedroom. There are no restaurants at this resort but there is a shuttle which goes next door to marriott kaui resort and they have many options. There's also a pizza place close by that delivers. The resort has only 1 pool and hot tub but like I said it's very quite and not crowded at all so our kids really enjoyed that. The fitness room has all it's cardio machines facing the ocean which was very nice to remind you that you are in Hawaii. We would definitely stay here again because it's very secluded and private and clean and gorgeous. If you want a resort that's really busy with people all over the place and more amenities such as restaurants and consider the marriott in poipu.

Room Tip: I would choose an ocean view to get the complete feeling of Hawaii

I'm sitting on our lanai right now, looking out at the lovely view. We'll be flying home tomorrow, and are sad to leave. We always enjoy our visits to Kauai.

Usually we stay at the Waiohai Beach Club. We stayed at Kauai Lagoons this trip because they offered three-bedroom condos, and with three couples, we each wanted a room. In the future, we'll be returning to the Poipu resort area. This resort was lovely but too far away from the action for us.

Some pluses/minuses:

Positives: Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful pool and grounds. My husband golfed and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room is lovely. Perfect for a family with small children that just wants to relax.

Things we didn't love: the resort was hard to locate. There is not a bar or restaurant on-site, and guests are not allowed to use the facilities at the nearby Marriott Hotel. If you want a fruity drink by the pool, you'll need to mix it yourself.
I also don't think they enforce the use of swim diapers, as the pool has been closed for treatment twice after 'kid incidents.' Yuck. We've never had this happen at another Marriott property.

In short, a wonderful Kauai vacation. We just prefer the other vacation club locations.
