“Nice surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

We did not expect much from it (especially because I did not pay for it, but used bonus points), but we had a nice surprise. The hotel from outside looks outdated, but inside the rooms are very nice and recently renovated. The service at the reception was excellent, the pool and the beach is good.

We spent several days at both the Kauai Lagoons and the Beach Club. Very different resorts. Enjoyed them both. We stayed in an ocean front room at the Beach Club. Wow! Doesn't get much better. We enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant- pool view, not ocean view. Service and food both good. Ate lunch at the pool bar area, where you actually do have an ocean setting. You can see more of the ocean than the pool actually. Enjoyed the Terrace lounge for just relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning or a drink in the afternoon. Really great views of both pool & ocean. Only down side- the coffee bar closes at 10:30AM. Really? We're supposed to be on vacation-LOL!
The only other suggestion we might make is , go to K-Mart or Costco and get a couple of cheap sand chairs. Chairs on the beach disappear fast. Lots of people seem to put their towel on the beach chair and then disappear for several hours.
The spa was pretty plain. I would save my money.
Our over all experience at the hotel was good though. The staff is friendly and helpful.
If you have kids, there should be plenty to do here to keep them busy.

Breathtaking views every morning. Stay at the hotel and never leave, or explore the island all day, come back and relax on the beach or by the pool. Wonderful amenities and food. Always clean, always friendly... beds were so comfortable. Convenient to airport and located mid island so no matter what direction you are planning to sightsee, you are in middle.

Room Tip: take the partial ocean view... it is actually full and you can hear the waves crashing on the beach...

What a wonderful vacation destination this is! After landing at Lihue airport, Marriott's shuttle bus can take you directly to the resort on a private road through their golf course and lush gardens. The pool here is, I believe, the largest in the islands - and 4 ft deep everywhere. With Kalapaki Beach situated just steps away from pool area, families have the choice of pool or beach, or both, each day! Restaurants here, on property and near, are great. Enterprise car rental has an office here on premises, so one can rent a vehicle for a day, week, whatever. We love to come to this Marriott because the property is beautiful and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Let me start with Kauai is to be explored and not to be seen sitting in a beach chair at any resort! However, in between adventures this hotel offers a nice beach to surf, boogie board, and swim in! Not too many hotels have this on Kauai!
It has a great location to the airport and it has easy access to all parts if the island! It's easy to go west and north at this centrally located hotel!
I would absolutely stay here again!
The only downside was our room has a leaking a/c unit so I had to deal with a wet rug the entire week. But it was just wet in one spot and they gave me lots if towels to soak up the water. It was either that or move me to a lower unit with a limited ocean view! I choose to stay and have a perfect visual everyday of the beach!
Staff was excellent, especially Gina, the hostess at the breakfast buffet!!! Wonderful and kind and an absolute pleasure to talk too! Thanks Gina for everything!!!
The grounds of the hotel was beautiful!!!!! I would and will stay at this hotel again!!!

Our honeymoon stay at this facility was average at best. Most of the staff was very helpful, but found some cases of not following up. We needed a fan in the room and were told they would get it 3 times before they finally said that none were available on the 4th day. The food options on site and right next door would start to make you think of price fixing. Almost every mixed drink was right at or around $12. you have to get a few miles from the resort to start getting a mixed drink at reasonable prices. Beach service was above average and prices were adequate on food items. The pool and hot tubs were excellent and roomy. Access to golf at nearby Kauai Lagoons is very convenient. Rooms are average, nothing spectacular and when you get an Ocean view room be sure to clarify if it is full or partial. Not that you spend a lot of time in your room, but if you want the view from your balcony in the evening which can be very nice (it does make a difference)

Room Tip: Again, ensure when they tell you that you have an Ocean view! is it full or partial! Partial can b...

Some of the recent reviews commented that the hotel was starting to show wear. Marriott will be doing a major renovation of the hotel (starting sometime in Aug 2013) and the timeshare units (including gutting the bathrooms) starting in mid-Sept 2013 and running thru about mid-March 2014, so it should be in excellent condition for summer 2014!

This is a one-of-a-kind timeshare because it shares the property with a resort hotel, and there are several excellent dining choices on the property, not to mention the fantastic view of the beach (if you get an Ocean-view).

Our only complaint is that Marriott seems to be booking this hotel almost as tight as the airlines, and it can be difficult to get the room location you want. I suspect it has to do with legacy vs. points ownership, with legacy not getting the best end of the deal. On this point we have a problem with how Marriott is handling things. We have never had such difficulty getting our room request before! We hope they get this problem fixed before our next visit.

Room Tip: Timeshare owners - when you get an email from the KBC vacation planner, you may need to keep after t...
