Our week at the Marriott was a timeshare exchange, and after a perfect exchange at the Westin Kaanapali Villas in Maui, this was a letdown.
On a positive note, the hotel grounds are beautiful and the pool area is huge. There's a nice beach and an area of grass behind it for the lounge chairs. There are several hot tubs around the pool, but we never got into one, as they were always full of kids.
Our room in Kahili Tower was very dated, with a kitchenette so small it was pretty useless. It included a tiny microwave, college size fridge and small dishwasher.The counter space is so small that the silverware drawer above it completely covers the countertop if you need to get silverware while trying to prepare any food.
The barbeques were located below our room, so the smoke and food smells came into the room when the sliders to the balcony were open. Twice I thought we had a fire in the microwave, but it was just the smoke from the barbeques at 10AM!
They offer no early check-in, so we arrived at 1PM from Maui and had to wait until 4PM to get into our room.....but check-out was a worse experience. Our flight was at 11PM but you can get a 6PM late check-out for a charge of $75. However, you must be packed and out of your room by 10AM and move to another. We did this so that we'd have a shower and place to relax, but we barely got in the room and settled when our door opened and another man with his luggage attempted to enter. He left and we called the desk and were told the room control lady was on her break ...she'd call us back by 10:30. Well that never happened, so we called her back but there was no explanation, just "sorry, sorry."
I would think that the Marriott would have a secure system that doesn't allow duplication of room keys! It's very unsettling when someone enters your room!!
Kauai was impressive ....... the Marriott was not.

Nice pool and better beach, the hotel offers a great discount for an awesome golf course that supplies clubs. Affordable spa and best jump spot to see the island. Best place on the island overall. It is walking distance to some nice stores and dinner spots.

We stayed 4 nights & loved the resort. Pool area & beach are fabulous! Restaurants on site are too pricey, except for Dukes.

Only complaint is that pool area is open till 10 PM, but the towel hut closed around 7 PM. Needed towels for hot tub.

Overall, we were pleased & would go back.

First the good. Great pool, largest in Kauai. It even has an island. Also has five hot tubs. The beach is very nice, although sometimes full of people from the tour boat that docks near by. The grounds with gardens and koi ponds are very nice. Dukes, close by, is great for dinner.

The bad. Front desk check in was a hassle. "Can't" was their favorite word. No benefits for Marriott gold or platinum. Could not check in when we arrived, but when we did the room floor had not been vacuumed (nail clipping on carpet) and the dish washer was full of dishes. Lani was very small. Elevator stopped on third floor every time although no one was getting on or off. Tiny room, but it has dishes for six.

The ugly. The Murphy bed. The room is too small for a bed and a couch, so they have a Murphy bed in the wall. First you have to move a table (without wheels); then find a place for the couch cushions (piled in the corner or maybe the bathtub); then pull down the bed and fine some pillows. You have to climb over the couch arm rests to get into the bed. Room was small before opening the bed - now two cats can't dance in the remaining space.

The idea of having a kitchenette is good but each day you have to rebuild the room to use it. Find a better place.
