My husband and I decided to stay at the Kauai Palms hotel for 4 main reason, the location is very central to everything we planned to do, the price was right (we didn't travel to Kauai to stay at a hotel, we wanted to explore - so we didn't want to pay for many amenities we weren't going to be taking advantage of), the parking was free, and there was laundry facilities on site.

When we first go there we were a little shocked (it looks rough around the edges), but after unpacking and realizing that our room was bigger than an average hotel room and included a kitchenette, we were very pleased. Although our bathroom did not have a bath tub, it was HUGE!! Most hotel bathrooms are tiny, but this was was big and was a pleasant surprise.

Although I have read reviews saying it was noisy (I bought ear plugs, but never opened them), our room was not. We hardly heard the chickens or any of our neighbors. Our room was located next to the lobby, so we did hear the office phone ring a couple of times, but other than that it was quiet and very peaceful. Like we were in our own apartment.

The staff was very friendly and offered good recommendations for places to eat and beaches to go to. Hamura's is right behind and is a must, best saimin anywhere!

We decided that we are definitely going to return to Kauai and stay at the Kauai Palms Hotel. But, if you want a hotel with lots of amenities, this is not the place for you!

Enjoyed our stay, rooms clean, not real spacious, but very comfortable. Price was right, just perfect for the budget minded.
Hard to visualize some of the previous negative reviews.

My husband and I stayed at Kauai Palms for 3 nights, largely because of the low rate they offered ($65/night). We knew it would be a no-frills kind of place, but since when does no-frills mean that guests should contend with cockroaches, stained carpet, rusty bathroom fixtures, sagging beds, windows that don't properly shut, and incessant noise? On our 1st night, I could barely sleep because the paper-thin walls and poor windows allowed me to hear every movement of our neighbor, and at 5am the roosters outside started crowing. Also, the Kauai Palms isn't too far from the Lihue Airport and the noise of the planes taking off can get really loud, too. We asked for a different room after our 1st night, and the staff was cordial and put us into another room- slightly less noisy- but of dubious cleanliness. My advice: don't stay here!! Do some research and find somewhere else to stay. Pay a little more for a better experience, or look into a vacation rental. I could have overlooked a lot of things about this hotel, but the cockroaches in both of the rooms we slept in pushed me over the edge. If a restaurant would get shut down for roaches and poor hygiene, so should this hotel.

We decided to stay here for a night since it is close to the airport and we were not arriving into Kauai until late. The room was dirty --- carpet covered in dirt and stains, and so were the sheets. We barely had room for two people to move around and the shower was so disgusting I just waited to shower at our next accomodations. To make the whole experience even worse, we woke up to the sounds of our neighbor being 'sick' and with the walls as thin as they were, we could hear everything and checked out as soon as we could get dressed.

We stayed at a charming inn the next night that ended up being about $25 more. I would have paid at least $100 to stay somewhere else!!! You can definitely find a much better budget priced lodging if you look around.
