We stayed at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club July 20, 2008 for one week. We exchanged into this property and were assigned in one of the timeshare towers. We had a one bedroom villa. The resort atmosphere was terrific! The grounds were beautiful (waterfalls, lush landscape, swans, coy fish, parrots, gigantic pool with lots of hot tubs, beach front, and lots of restaurants). This property has the largest pool in the state of Hawaii!
It is the only resort on Kalapaki beach, so guests really have the beach almost to themselves (except when a cruise ship arrives). Even then, it's not crowded. We enjoyed early morning walks around the grounds and beach area.
We used the the fitness room during the evenings (we had it to ourselves). It's large because it used to be one of the ballrooms. However, I wished it had a restroom/changing area/shower/steam room attached. The day spa, which has those amenities, is located on the other side of the property.
Now, had the rooms been in better condition, then our stay would have been perfect. However, the rooms needed updating.
We were first assigned a villa on the 5th floor near the elevator. That room had ants crawling on the gourmet center counter and the room was musty. So, after a call to the front desk, we were immediately placed in another room on the same floor. The villas all got new queen size, beautiful, comfortable wall beds (great idea) in the living room portion. The bedroom side had a king bed. We requested a roll away which fit perfectly next to the king bed. That is the ONLY place a roll away will fit by the way.
The good news is that all the rooms will be going through a HUGE renovation beginning September. All the beddings, carpet, curtains, etc. will be changed. The gourmet center, which includes a sink, microwave, small fridge, and dishwasher will be redesigned. Currently, the counter is way to high to be practical. The counter will be lowered, the microwave will be bigger, etc. The gourmet center will be more functional.
We are comparing the villas to our new Lahaina tower villa at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club. So if you are not used to that type of accommodation (full kitchen and brand new everything), then this property's villa will be just fine.
