We loved the Marriott, we stayed for 5 nights. We had a wonderful time. It was our Anniversary. We were upgraded to a ocean view room, it was beautiful. We were sent 3 gifts 1basket of goodies a plate of fruit and a small bottle of wine. We were surprised, it made us feel good. The room was very small but the view was wonderful. We did have a large balcony with a patio table and 2 chairs. In the room we had a small table and two chairs with a coffee pot and free refills each day. The hotel is older but kept very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We loved Duke's Barefoot Bar right on the beach walk in front of hotel. The food is good and reasonable, the hula pie is yummy! We ate here 4 times Duke's up stairs for dinner is also wonderful with a great salad bar and good prices. The pool is one of the largest on the Island with 5 whirlpools. Ocean is right next to the pool with free lounge chairs. Quite a few restaurants with in walking distance of the hotel. Anchor Cove is with in walking distance of the hotel with higher priced stores. ABC is ok for drinks gifts etc.. and better prices at the Cove. Only 7 minutes away is Kukui Grove, it has a Mc Donalds for the litte ones. K- Mart great for cheaper gifts, postcard. You will pay about 1/2 the price for the same things at the local stores and hotels. Behind the Kukui Grove is a food store and Cosco's. Poipu about 35 minutes away. Princeville is about 45 miuntes. The hotel is at a great location for getting around the Island. There is a Hilo Hatties a Hawaiian store and a Wall- mart about 12 minutes from the hotel. We heard the hotel is being done over later this year. We will return in a minute as long as the prices don't go too high for this great place. We had a wonderful time just the way it is.

We stayed at the Marrriott for our honeymoon in a pool view ground level room. We had no problems with noise whatsoever and our room was decent, not great. This resort is in a great location near the airport which makes it very convenient, but really only caters to families with young children. The breakfast buffet was included in our package, but the food was quite poor. There are 2 restaurants on the premises, Dukes which was good but pricey, and an Italian place that was very good and much more reasonable on prices. All in all, it was not a great value for the price.

I would definitely recommend going to Kauai, but I would not stay at the Marriott, unless you are traveling with young kids and dont plan on leaving the resort often. The property was nice, but didn't lend itself to a romantic feel. I would not recommend this property for a honeymoon.

We stayed at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club July 20, 2008 for one week. We exchanged into this property and were assigned in one of the timeshare towers. We had a one bedroom villa. The resort atmosphere was terrific! The grounds were beautiful (waterfalls, lush landscape, swans, coy fish, parrots, gigantic pool with lots of hot tubs, beach front, and lots of restaurants). This property has the largest pool in the state of Hawaii!
It is the only resort on Kalapaki beach, so guests really have the beach almost to themselves (except when a cruise ship arrives). Even then, it's not crowded. We enjoyed early morning walks around the grounds and beach area.
We used the the fitness room during the evenings (we had it to ourselves). It's large because it used to be one of the ballrooms. However, I wished it had a restroom/changing area/shower/steam room attached. The day spa, which has those amenities, is located on the other side of the property.
Now, had the rooms been in better condition, then our stay would have been perfect. However, the rooms needed updating.
We were first assigned a villa on the 5th floor near the elevator. That room had ants crawling on the gourmet center counter and the room was musty. So, after a call to the front desk, we were immediately placed in another room on the same floor. The villas all got new queen size, beautiful, comfortable wall beds (great idea) in the living room portion. The bedroom side had a king bed. We requested a roll away which fit perfectly next to the king bed. That is the ONLY place a roll away will fit by the way.
The good news is that all the rooms will be going through a HUGE renovation beginning September. All the beddings, carpet, curtains, etc. will be changed. The gourmet center, which includes a sink, microwave, small fridge, and dishwasher will be redesigned. Currently, the counter is way to high to be practical. The counter will be lowered, the microwave will be bigger, etc. The gourmet center will be more functional.
We are comparing the villas to our new Lahaina tower villa at the Marriott Maui Ocean Club. So if you are not used to that type of accommodation (full kitchen and brand new everything), then this property's villa will be just fine.

  • Liked — great resort atmosphere...beautiful, lush, landscaping
  • Disliked — didn't have a full kitchen

We are Marriott Timeshare Owners and were able to exchange for the week in Kauai. We were well aware that the "villas" did not have full kitchens, but the fact that the property is more resort/hotel than timeshare, we were fine. The refrigerators, microwave, and sink as well as the dining areas were perfect for breakfasts, snacks and room service dinners. My husband and I had been to this resort when it was the Westin, right before the hurricane hit. We are thrilled by the changes Marriot made to give the lobby and gardens a tropical feel, as opposed to the art-deco pool and statues it used to have. The pool, and beach areas are beautiful. My son(13) took surfing lessons as my daughter(8) swam in the surf. The hallways are starting to show wear, carpet seams and such, but overall we found the staff warm and welcoming, the rooms spacious and the views from the villa specatular!
Wamea Canyon was beautiful, and then we stopped for the best Shave Ice at JoJo's! We had a great time tubing with the Kauai Backcountry Adventures! Make reservations in advance of your arrival, they were completely booked for the entire time we were in Hawaii (June 28th to July 14th) . We took the Blue Dolphin Catamaran tour of the Napali Coast. The crew was OUTSTANDING! Tim made a point of getting to know everyone on board, making them comforatable. Christian helped take pictures and kept us laughing. The scenery was magnificent! The crew made it great fun!
The food all over Kauai was delicious. We enjoyed Roy's, and the Beach House. Reservations for the Beach House are needed to ensure a view of the incredible sunset over Poipu Beach. Duke's at the Marriott was a comfortable place with the choice of island fish and ribs.
The location of the Marriott made exploring the island extremely easy. 1 1/2 hours in any one direction and you were in Wamea or Princeville. The closeness to the airport was very convenient, and we never heard the planes. The island is beautiful and lush, even more than the last time we visited 16 years ago!
Our next visit to Hawaii will include a stay at the Marriott Kauai Resort and Ocean Club.

I was not all that impressed with the Marriott for the price we paid to stay there for 5 nights (granted we came from the Ritz in Maui). First off the rooms are just plain and could use a face lift. They clearly have not be updated in 10+ years. The carpets have a bit of a stale stench to them. The rooms at best are average.

The pool bars have more of a Cancun feel to them versus an upscale feel to them. There are no upscale bars at all in the hotel which we found surprising if you want to get a nice glass of wine.

If you are looking for a more upscale hotel as a couple on a honeymoon, I would not recommend the Marriott. It caters more of families with young children.

The one benefit is the Marriott is centrally located and it makes it easy to get the West and Northern parts of Kauai. Also the sushi bar is excellent (however very small).
