“My Dream Vacation!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

This property has it all. We stayed here for 7 days the 2nd week of June and had near perfect weather. Aside from one brief rain shower, the sun was out with beautiful puffy clouds every day. The beach at this Marriott is a lovely half-moon shape with clear water, yet it is not good for snorkeling. Go to Poipu or Salt Pond Park for that. The beach here is named Kalakapi and is deep and wide - no crowding. It is very close to the pool so you can go back and forth. We stayed in a garden-view room #2104 but also had a great view of the pool and beach. We were up pretty high so we did not hear any pool or rooster noises. We parked in the lot behind the rooms (although they won't tell you about this lot) and had an easy beach access from there. The restaurants are overpriced and food just ok. We ate in town at Splash! and Kalapaki Joe's - mmmm good. We never did hear any airport noise, even when out by the pool. Also, on Sunday night they have a Luau that is wonderful; however I would skip the food and just go for the show. I will definitely return for this whole experience at my first opportunity.

Room Tip: Just about anywhere up high gives you a view of everything. We stayed in the Ha'apa (spelling) b...

My wife and I spent the first two nights of our Hawaii honeymoon here before heading to Poipu. However, after two nights we didn't want to leave because this place is great! The beach's waters are calm and swimmable (rare on Kauai, it seemed) even if the water wasn't very clear. Also, the pool and grounds were simply breathtaking--four Jacuzzis by the pool, some of which you could only get to by swimming! It exceeded all our expectations. Because it was our honeymoon, they put us on the 11th floor with an amazing view of Kalapaki beach. I have heard, however, of inferior rooms with murphy beds, but only second hand. The location in Lihue is convenient to both trips to the North Shore and South Shore. There's also plenty of nice things nearby, including Duke's restaurant--simply delicious! We ate dinner once at the onsite restaurant by their pool, but we were somewhat disappointed with the food (the appetizers with Kalua pork, however, were excellent) even if the service was excellent. For breakfasts, we got coffee and pastries at their onsite café before heading to the beach. The pastries were really good and seemed to hit the spot. Overall, I would definitely recommend this Marriott to people. I was worried about noise from the airport, but I never noticed a problem.

Stayed one week at this hotel with wife and two kids age 9 and 6. Everyone enjoyed the hotel and especially the pool - a big flower-shaped pool with 4 ft depth, 5 adjacent hot tubs, and 5 animal-themed fountains. In the middle is an island for lounging accessible by a bridge. Spectacular setting in the Kalapaki Bay with mountain ridge overlooking. There's also a kiddie pool and water slide. Waitresses roam the pool to bring you food and drink. Also lounge on the lawn or beach on the bay and watch the surfers and paddle boards (or rent for yourself). Hotel towers look like 60's architecture but rooms are modern. Not just a family hotel - other hotel guests were young newlyweds, retirees, and intl travelers - but there is no adult-only pool.

When you get tired of the overpriced hotel food, there are other restaurants in the mall across the street and an ABC store for sundry items. Not much in Lihue but rent a car and drive southwest to Poipu/Waimea one day and north to Princeville/Hanalei another. Enterprise rental office is onsite at the hotel. You can decide by 9:30am each day if you want to keep the car for another day.

I don't know why I've never written a review for the Kauai Marriott until now! This was our first Hawaiian experience over ten years ago, and I think it is what initially made us fall in love with the Hawaiian Islands.

My husband and I have been back twice since our first trip to Kauai. Our first stay was for a week in July 1999, then we went 2 weeks for Christmas and New Years in Dec. 2007/Jan. 2008, and our most recent trip was two weeks for Christmas and New Years Dec. 2011/Jan. 2012. During this large range of time, the hotel has stayed beautiful and is always well maintained. The food is great, the service on par with other 4 star resorts, and the grounds are gorgeous. Room service is delicious and Duke's always offers fantastic dinners. We love the location because it is easy to get to all of our favorite places. The only other resort we have stayed at on Kauai is the Grand Hyatt. We love Kauai and always enjoy our stay at the Kauai Marriott. The Christmas activities are always so special too! One year, we watched the Polar Express on Kalapaki Beach under the stars on Christmas Eve, and another year Santa and his elves came by outrigger canoe and passed out candy on the beach. Good memories! I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Stayed here for five nights. Nice rooms, comfortable beds. Not brand new...rooms showed their age in the bathrooms. Small. But everything worked well, hot showers, etc....so we liked our stay.

Pool area is very nice as you can tell from the photos. Restaurants nearby in every category.....from cheap cheap to very expensive. Duke's was good place to start. View of beach and good food at reasonable prices. Next to hotel, not sure if affiliated.

Anyway, we would stay here again.

Secret trip tip: At the far left of the pool as you face the ocean, walk toward the ocean. You will see an elevator on the left side pretty close to the beach. Take the elevator to the top. It let's you out at the top street level. Walk right... down toward all those homes you see from the beach. At the end you will see a big ficus tree. Keep walking straight until you see the golf course. There in n front of you is a green that the golfer's must try to land on! If you walk right, you can walk all the way out to the small lighthouse! Great views and great photos!!! Check it out!!

While the resort is quote close to the airport, we hardly heard any airplane noise, certainly nothing that bothered us. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The mattress in our room desperately needs to be replaced (a king size bed that was sunken on either side; if I could have slept right in the middle where it wasn't worn, it would have been more comfortable). Otherwise, the room was maintained and very clean. We enjoyed the fairly large pool area and the nearby beach. We were disappointed in the restaurant options on the property and within walking distance, I found that we nearly always drove outside the resort for meals. Most of the time this wasn't a problem, as we wanted to enjoy other parts of the island anyway. But it would have been nice to have a few good options for days when we were feeling a little lazy. While the grounds were large, we really appreciated that getting in and out of the resort was easy. Some resorts are so huge that it's a trek just to get to the car and navigate out, but this resort it set up really nicely. Overall this was a really nice place to stay, and I would consider staying here again. But depending on how much exploring around the island you want to do, I feel that staying in Kapaa, or further east, would be more convenient (especially given the traffic between Lihue and Kapaa).

This resort really is quite lovely, but... there are a few things which I wish I had known before traveling. First of all, it's really close to the airport, and seemed to be somewhat far from all the activities around the island. You pretty much need to rent a car in order to get around, unless you book activities that include pick up from the hotel. The hotel does have a shuttle to and from airport, as well as to some local food stores. We didn't use it, but know that others did. The property is really lovely and well maintained. The staff were all very kind and helpful. I didn't realize I was getting a pull down bed, not very comfortable and kind of difficult to push up and down every day, so it remained down for the duration, which of course too away from the space of the room. It was very clean though, and well equipped if you wanted to take advantage of cooking with the gas grills provided. We did use them one night, but it was very crowded, and you basically had to share a grill with someone.

Parking is another issue, self parking is $16.00 per day, and it's kind of a walk from the lot to the lobby, and spaces are at a premium by the end of the day.

On the plus side, the pool and surrounding beach is awesome, with towels service and chaise lounges at both. You can rent cabanas and floats there, and walk down the path to rent stand up boards, as well as kayaks.

Did not eat anything at the hotel except coffee, as I had made reservation off the property every night. Didn't do the Costco run either, because for two people it didn't seem to warrant the time. We did get breakfast fixings at a Safeway, and while it was more than our Safeway at home, well worth getting so we could eat in our room and head out on an adventure for the rest of the day.

Ice machines on every other floor, and guest laundry facilities also available on each floor.

One of the best things is the view, which is just great! We checked out early on Friday morning, and didn't realize that our kayak/hike would get us so dirty, and were pleasantly surprised when we returned to get our luggage that there are hospitality suites (one for men/one for women) to use to clean up once you've checked out. This really was a fabulous surprise as we were covered in mud and didn't want to board the flight looking like this!

All in all, a great vacation, just ask about the bed first!

Room Tip: Don't get the Murphy Bed!!
