“Fantastic Grounds, but Smelly Bathrooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2012

Without doubt, the Marriott has beautiful grounds - starting from the moment you drive in, there is a beautiful canopy, the huge swimming pool faces the mountains and ocean, etc - the view is just absolutely splendid.

Let's move to the rooms - they are very outdated. I know a lot of the previous reviews talk about the Marriott timeshare, and i have no doubt that their timeshares are in great shape. But their ordinary hotel rooms leave a lot to be desired. At first they booked us in a small room facing the garden and there were stains on their ceiling, the bathtub didn't drain and the bathroom smelled gross - it was because they are still using cloth shower curtains. I complained to the front desk and they upgraded us to a suite, facing the pool. Yes, this room was nicer, but the bathrooms still used cloth shower curtains - i think the last time i saw cloth shower curtains was at Ramada Inn - seriously, Marriott needs to get with the times.

So even though the room was more spacious, the bathrooms stank and they just need to upgrade to glass doors - that will help with the odor. I spent 60,000 Marriott points to stay here for 2 nights and wouldn't do it again.

We have loved staying at the Marriott Kauai Resort in Lihue, HI for many years. The pool is wonderful, resturants great, beach clean and very relaxing. This past May however, we were shocked that the helicopter noise began at 8:01 AM every morning and continued until 5:00PM. Evidently the helicopters have been rerouted to fly directly over the Marriott at low altitiude making it impossible to relax. When I asked the front desk they said that they were unaware of such noise. One morning, I observed the head of security looking up and asked him what was with the noise and he just shook his head.

Room Tip: See three rooms before you decide leaving your luggege in the lobby.

Stayed in a 1 bedroom oceanfront villa for 1 week. Weather was perfect. Our view on the 5th floor was amazing. Cleaning staff was very helpful. The larger pool bar that opens at 4 had good food and drinks during happy hour. 5 hot tubs by the pool were nice. Lots of people. If you are looking for quiet go elsewhere but otherwise very nice place.

We had a lovely time here in a rented timeshare condo. We asked for 2 mini fridges and it worked out just fine with 2 adults and 2 teens in a one bedroom. My son actually slept in his rollaway outside on the balcony. We overlooked the beach and the ocean. Even though the weather was unsettled some of the time, we enjoyed the view very much. My daughter says it was the most comfortable bed she ever had and wanted to take it home!

Staff was courteous and helpful.

The grounds were gorgeous and the carp fiesty! The pool is easily one of the best in the world. Enjoy one of the hottub "rooms" if you can get one--really just a bit of shelter, but very relaxing.

We loved being on the beach and also the paddle board instruction given through the swim shop. My son took advantage of this class and enjoyed his experience.

Local food shopping at Costco and Walmart was convenient.

Stayed 10 days in this hotel. It was clean, new looking, excellent service and had a nice scenic view. Only thing is this hotel is very busy. It was totally booked so you could imagine how many people were there. Waiting for the elevator took forever. Other than that, the hotel is excellent.

One of the most comfortable hotels we've stayed at since the Hotel George in D.C.--and we travel a fair amount. It was also one of the most strikingly beautiful. Our colleagues became violently ill though, having fish at the grill by the pool. We also ate there a few times, and had no problems. So, who knows, she could have eaten something else that was tainted before she arrived. If we return to Kauai, we will definitely stay here. Lots of great restaurants all around and on site. Some shopping is walking distance. The unusually large and beautiful pool in view of the ocean is paradise.

Room Tip: We didn't have a premium-view room, but still had a great view of the ocean and no noise. The gr...

We just returned from staying at Marriott Kauai Resort. We arrived and the their shuttle was there shortly, took us through a back road that is absolutely gorgeous!! beautiful trees, cute rusters walking all over, inmmaculate gardens!! Bellmen were very helpful, explaining where we would go to check in, helpful with our luggage. Receptionist was fast and very nice. Special thanks to CHAD (concergie) he explained us how to take a bus to get a pizza at a restaurant that we had heard of, BRICK OVEN PIZZA, and another time helped me with a phone call, he is an excellent employee and person!!! We got a comfortable room but because we were EXCHANGE from timeshare, we got garden view, ground floor, hidden in a corner, I was afraid to sit in my patio because I didn't know what was going to crawl out of the bushes!!!We requested second floor, at least, but it was very full, and for all the seven nights that we were getting we had a terrific price per night, so we understood and enjoyed our room very much. It was very roomy, we had two full bathrooms, two big screen T.V.'s and it was a one bedroom with living room, kitchennette, etc. Very clean, very nice bed!!! Crispy sheets!! The whole place is beautiful!!! Very clean!!! You can tell that it has its years but over all is very nice!! Very nice gym!!! Always found a machine and plenty of room to work out!! Portofino, Dukes, KuKui's very good restaurants, every meal was great!!! I got up early to go for walks on the beach or around the property, beach, etc. and the employees that I encounter always greeted me with a smile!!! Always asking if I need it anything!!! The airport is two miles away and YOU CAN'T HEAR THE PLANES!!!! I am a young person very good hearing, the only thing that you hear sometimes is the rusters, sometimes loud!! Nothing to bother so much.....Overall, a very nice vacation!!!

Room Tip: Request high floor rooms!!!
