Had the Ulu for a couple nights at the end of May and will only stay there for every trip to come. Hands down the best place to stay on the island if you don't need a beach outside your door (only short drive to Poi'pu).

Stayed at the Princeville and Grand Hyatt and neither had anything on Mrs. Lorna's place as far as room quality (size, view, design etc), cleanliness and service; both actually gave up something in at least 2 of the areas. Wife's first stay at a B&B (she's from Chicago and likes the fancy rooms) and is now totally sold on the concept though I've had to explain that most, if not all, aren't quite this good. In hindsight, wish we'd have stayed there the entire trip and just visited the Hyatt's grounds, which are incredible.

Mahalo Mrs. Lorna, you made the trip even more memorable. See you soon...

My husband and I just returned from eight wonderful days at the Kauai Banyan Inn. We did a fair amount of research when we planned this trip--Kauai was the only island we visited. We knew what we liked in lodging, and the Kauai Banyan Inn sounded like a great fit for us. It was great--comfy mattress, views of tropical vegetation from our sliding glass door/lanai, very quiet. Small kitchen, more than suitable for our needs. The suite comes with free WiFi, which we used to download each day's pictures from our camera and send e-mail "postcards" to family and friends each day. The location was wonderful--people had wondered about the drive "all the way" to the north shore--but we drove easily to all of the restaurants and sights we had planned to see. Plenty of beach equipment in the common area made the stay even more enjoyable--we had our own snorkels and masks, but we borrowed fins, beach chairs, and had an ample supply of beach towels. Suite also has a small cooler which we used every day.

We were more than comfortable with the ceiling fan on, and the rooster who woke me up on night one (earplugs are provided) didn't bother me after that--I just slept through it with the nice night breeze coming through the door and windows. The inn is located away from any of the towns, yet close to beaches and morning cappucino.

In short, I would unconditionally recommend the inn to anyone who is looking for something other than the big resort experience. Friendly service, impeccably clean suite, great location, well-furnished--it all made our trip hassle-free and relaxing.

“Perfect Place to Stay on Kauai”

This inn is close enough to sights you want to see on Kauai, but is removed enough to offer peace and quiet in a gorgeous natural setting. The enormous bed is the most comfortable we've slept in, and the view from the Ulu suite was unbeatable. Lorna is charming, warm and as helpful as you need.

We can't recommend this place enough!

“Beautiful!”

Kauai Banyan Inn

I spent 4 wonderful days in Kauai and The Kauai Banynon Inn, unforgettable!
I think it's great that everybody else heard that rooster too! I grew up in the country, so was not too bothered after the first night. Staying at the Inn was like staying in someone's (Lorna's) gracious home. Room was lovely, comfortable, had the quiet charm of a guest suite in a house, but wireless internet and cable TV.And as a woman travelling alone, I appreciated that after a long day hiking, I could come back, stop at Lapperts in Koloa for ice cream, and make a lite dinner for myself. I loved sitting on the Lanai in the morning drinking my fresh-brewed Kona.
Close to the beach, not far from the airport, and, like the previous reviewer mentioned, 1.5 hours to the farthest point away.
The Island is beautiful place that I hope will remained relativley unspoiled, and The Kauai Banynon Inn reflects that.

We stayed for a week in the Milo suite and loved it. What a beautiful spot - so quiet and serene - except for the rooster. He started around 4:30 and in spite of our heavy-duty ear plugs, the noise could not be shut out. But that's the same no matter where in Kauai you go...so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. We were there to hike and we would get up with the rooster, eat and arrive at the trail head as the sun rose.
Lorna was a great host who paid attention to every little detail. I agree with the previous reviewer...I can't tell you how many times I thought "I wish we had a - " and there it was! I think the Milo suite is one of the smaller ones, but it was more than sufficient for two. Foldaway chairs and TV tables in the closet were perfect for our one rainy evening when eating on the lanai was not an option. A full sized fridge, hot plate, toaster over, and BBQ made it possible to cook an incredible selection of fresh fish and other goodies from town. Great central location - Hanalei was the furthest we went at only 1.5 hours. Town and the beach were just around the corner, and everything you could possibly need for the beach was provided. We absolutely adored this place - it truly was a home away from home.
