There are or were two management companies for this Outrigger location with one being preferable to the other as to rates and other factors. Outrigger itself is a hotel chain, but provides management and booking for this large property....and seems to be the best of the two companies to book thru.
I can't recommend enough the publications from Wizard Publications...their Big Island, Kauai and/or Maui revealed books are worth their weight in gold...and Kauai Revealed is how I found the Outrigger...Wizard has a wonderful website also..just google it.
Poipu itself is as gorgeous as Hawaii gets...and thats a lot of gorgeous...with the Outrigger right on a pristine little beach, and near the real Hawaiian Botanical Garden, Spouting Horn, and Waimea Canyon, it's a wonderful place to enjoy Kauai. The rooms are roughly Ramada Inn level, but the grounds...oh the grounds....whether its their own Orchid garden or the immense cactus and succulent garden or just the landscaping with tons of lei flowers, banana, orchid, etc. etc....it is something to remember. The condo units are clean, bright, and well laid out with everything you'll need. There is a restaurant/bar on the premises. There is another Outrigger further north, but I think you'll enjoy this area the most. BE SURE and take a snorkle trip on the Fairwind catamaran, and drive north to see the lighthouse and north end of the island. I enjoyed the ATV trip, which is a little rugged and not for all, but reveals sights not seen otherwise such as an ancient Hawaiian battlefield on a private ranch, and the location where "Indiana Jones" filmed the swing on a vine out to a waiting seaplane.
I have never been impressed with the "fancy" restaurants in Hawaii but if you want to try 'em, go for it...the "revealed" books give good tips on eating, and as far as I'm concerned, the little local shops selling the typical Hawaiian lunch are the best food on the islands...what is a typical Hawaiian lunch....very fresh local fish such as Ono or Mahi Mahi, with a side of rice and a side of macaroni and cheese.
Don't forget your camera's...this will be a wonderful memory for you.
Aloha
