“Easy but rewarding”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

No slope to climb but still fun, there is a lot of beautiful plants and trees. Make sure you go see the old Dam!

“Nice walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

The trail is about a five mile loop starting near Kauai Mini Golf. You need to go into the Namahana Cafe/Kauai Mini Golf building and sign a waiver. There is no fee to walk the loop. After filling out the form, you can park near the trailhead. Things you will need for this walk: shoes, not flip flops; sunscreen as there is not a lot of shade along most of the route; insect repellent as there are some mosquitoes near the rock dam area; and water, lots of water (recommend at least two bottles per person if it is a hot day). The most scenic part of the walk is the garden/rock dam. Very lovely spot with some seating for a picnic. If the five mile walk is too long for you, then after filling out the form you can drive to the Garden Cafe at Common Ground and walk in from there. Probably less than a mile to the garden/rock dam area. If you start/return to the Namahana Cafe, you can get food, drinks, gelato, etc. and also use the restrooms.

“Beautiful grounds and swim”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

My family always takes this trail. Perfect for walking and an easy bike ride. Easy enough for kids too! Mostly all flat trail. We reached the dam and took a dip off the man-made dock. Cool, refreshing and excellent scenery of mountains.

“Wai Koa Loop Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

This was an easy hike, quite level. We even hiked it once in the rain. It's a five mile loop. You can cut it shorter by going left at the intersection and finish up clockwise. The historic old dam was built 130 years ago, it is surrounded by beautiful gardens, including bamboo. The hike is through beautiful mahogany stands. As you start out you will pass majestic Cook pines (maybe Norfolk Pines?). Well worth it, could also be done on bikes. Great for a family, even with young ones.
