Location is about the only thing good at this resort. Just north of the airport it is centrally located for points north and south.
That being said, it has a distinct circa early 80's feel. Carpeting (in a tropical environment?) adds to a mildewy smell. Wall paint is chipped and peeling and there is mold in the very small shower. I couldn't be bothered with the breakfast and instead went to local cafe. Service is just OK.
The only reason I'm here is because I'm on business and my office put me here. I gave them an earful already. I would never choose this place on a personal trip.

My family stayed here 1 night before heading to the Hyatt. What is so bad about this place? Sure it is rustic, but authentic and affordable. 10 minutes from the airport and great for that 10:45 pm arrival. I thought the fruit on the breakfast was fine. I got the fruit which was included in the resort fee and bought the Hawaii pancakes for $9 and took the 20% coupon found in the Kauai coupon magazine at the tour desk at the hotel. So $10 for juice, fruit, coffee and pancakes! The trick is stay here before the nice hotel. So my $68 rate ended up costing me $119 for 4 people with tax and breakfast.

Only problem with room was very cold could not find individual thermostat. By the way, tell the male waiter Aloha...he may actually smile:)!

We just returned from our 7 day stay in Kauai at the Aston Aloha. After reading some of the reviews before our trip, I was a little nervous by all of the negative comments that had been made. I am so glad we stuck with our choice. Not only is it very reasonably priced, but the hotel is in prime location next to Lydgate Park and the beach and right next to downtown Kapaa. Granted, the resort is NOT 5 star. However, we found the room and the grounds perfectly adequate. For the people who were complaining about this resort in other reviews, you are not supposed to be in your room that much when you are in Hawaii anyways! Get outside! If you want a 5 star, go stay at the Four Seasons. This was our third time back to Kauai. Our room was clean, had a mini fridge which was very convenient, and was exactly what we needed. We had an oceanfront room and had amazing views of the water and the sunrises each morning. There are no balconies, however, opening the sliding door all the way gave us ample opportunity to enjoy the views and to take plenty of photos. The staff at the hotel was so warm and welcoming. The parking at the hotel was very convenient. Our maid did a fantastic job cleaning our room. We were steps away from the beach, which was amazing. If we chose to go to one of the two pools, that was also an option. The pools are small, but the grounds surrounding them are beautifully landscaped with palm trees and flowers. What more do you need? You are right next to the ocean! We did not eat at the hotel restaurant, but that is because the hotel has an amazing location and you can easily walk to parts of Kapaa and drive to other areas of the island reasonably easy within 20 min time frame. Plus, we made sure to make use of our mini fridge for breakfast items, etc (to save money.) We would definitely go back in a heartbeat. We have traveled all over the world and stayed in many hotels. This hotel is great and we are looking forward to our next trip back to Kauai. If you have read the other reviews and are hesitant, please give this hotel a try. When we arrived and we were seeing the hotel in person, it really disappointed us when we remembered what some of the reviews had said. On the first day there, we said that we would write a review on here as soon as we got back! Mahalo Aston Aloha for such a great stay and for making our trip that much more amazing. We appreciate it! Hope to see you again soon!

I agree with the person who wrote you get what you pay for. The hotel has seen better days. The room is adequate, as is the bathroom. Rooms would be much better with balconies. We had an ocean view room, but couldn't really enjoy it. The included continental breakfast was weak-a little fruit, coffee, and a small cinnamon roll. We ate it and then went out to Eggberts for a real breakfast. It will put a roof over your head, but not much more.

This hotel is perfectly located to most excursions and great food. You can walk to the beach located behind the hotel and there's a great playground for young kids. If you use your hotel as just a clean up and hit the road it's great. It is not a resort and doesn't offer any resemblance of one. There is a 15.00 a day fee for unlimited DVD rental, parking, and continental breakfast. Carpet and bath old! Windows dirty. Stingy with towels. Friendly sweet housekeepers. Indifferent front desk. Minimal laundry facilities. This place has potential for awesome resort.

Aston Aloha Beach Hotel is the best local choice on the beautiful island of Kauai. The management there caters to all needs and hospitality is excellent. Would highly recommend to everyone visiting or just needing a weekend off.

Room Tip: Air conditioned rooms a must. Little fridge helps keep your cold drinks at a hands reach. Possible m...

There are very big differences between the room types and the locations. We had booked a garden view room 2 double beds and when we got to the room, the air wasn't working (it was 85 & blowing hot air). Maintenance guy said to give it time. Problem is: I don't sweat. Literally, I don't sweat. Sounds like a good thing but it's not. Sweat is how your body cools itself off, so I was cooking. I went down to the front desk to get a fan. But there was Shar, and she said that was nonsense! She moved us to another room in another wing pronto. Difference between rooms: 1st was a garden view with a tub/shower, 2nd was a pool view with a shower only but also a room large enough for a sofa plus the 2 dbl beds. AND THE AIR WORKED! The grounds are very pretty. The turn into the hotel from the airport is very easy to miss.

The reasons I only gave this property a 3 are: parking SUCKS! hot water isn't that hot, and what they call a laundry facility at a property this size is a joke (1 washer/1 dryer for the entire place). While the beach is very close, and has a nice protected area for swimming & snorkling, it's not actually part of the hotel - it's a state or city park but the hotel claims it as part of their amenities. Also, they give you a ticket for a continental breakfast - it consists of a danish, a pineapple spear, and a piece of mango. But they will give you eggs and bacon for $7 more per person... Mattresses aren't very good either.

Bottom line, I think we'll look for a condo the next time.

Room Tip: If you want a tub, get a room in the Maille bldg. If you want a larger room with only a shower, get...
