We booked this hotel through an Alaska airlines package. We selected it because it was centrally located and because of the adjacency to Lydgate park. Most beaches in the area can be unsafe to swim at due to riptides and/or shorebreaks, but at Lydgate park they've built an artifical reef that not only makes for safe swimming but also provides some good snorkeling opportunities.
The location is about 15 minutes drive from the airport and 5 minutes from Kapaa. It's a good location that's about equidistant from Waimea canyon in one direction and Hanalei in the other direction - a great base to see all the island from.
There are still some renovations going on at the hotel. The main pool was closed, but a small pool was open, and who wants to swim in a pool anyway when a great beach is right next door!!
When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find our reservations had been upgraded to the cottages. These are one bedroom units closer to the beach than the main hotel block. They were just wonderful - large bedroom and sitting room/kitchen (fridge/sink/microwave, dishes supplied) and a large bathroom with a tub/shower combo. Lots of free parking right outside the door.
Can't comment on the restaurant because we didn't eat there - there were too many other interesting options in nearby Kapaa.
Hotel staff were very courteous and helpful.
