I have stayed at the Aloha Beach Resort twice. Once July 2006 and again March 2008. I have to say, we had a nicer room in July 2006 but since we were only staying one night and left for a timeshare the next day, I had only chosen "run-down" of the house. Our room was not upgraded since.............dark and overlooking the empty koi pool. When they are done with renovations, I would hope this is put back into service. It was relaxing to sit and watch the fish if you were waiting in the lobby for friends.

My room in 2006, had a very nice view of the ocean. Really can not comment much more about rooms because they are in the midst of renovations. I have to cut them some slack here.

The lobby looks very nice and the beach park in front of the hotel. The staff was very courteous and efficient.

The food in the restaurant was excellent, service was very friendly.

Kapaa is a very good base point for exploring the island, go less than an hour in either direction and you are at the end of the road.

We arrived at night so there wasn't alot to see. We did however see the large tractor trailer and the lack of cars. When we got to our room it smelled musty, the air didn't work (although it was blowing) and the beds were cheap and uncomfortable. The shower was like a small telephone booth with a nasty shower curtain that constantly clung to your leg. We hoped that things would look up after we left the room, But the staff failed to impress. They were unfriendly and not very knowledgable about anything. The pools were closed as was the center part of the hotel. construction workers were all over though it wasn't a bother waking us up. The hotel seemed to be an old hotel that had been closed then purchased to be renovated. The new owners are being CHEAP on the renovations. The location was good, and after you ran from the grounds you found a nice public park behind the hotel. If I were you I would spend the extra $20 and stay somewhere else.

We booked this hotel for a weekend trip and got there late on Friday night. The staff was friendly and informative.

The room was fairly clean and comfortable. The shower was small and the elevator was old. Even so, the rest of the renovations looked great. It will be even better when they get their fish back in the ponds.

Through the weekend, we hung out in the lobby and enjoyed the quiet as well as the comfortable chairs.

The resturant had a limited menu so we went into the neighboring towns and ate there.

It is close to the ocean but not at the best of beaches considering the other beaches in the area. The main pool was closed which could be a disappointment for some but not for me. The most important aspect of the hotel is that it was a convenient place to lay my head and drift off to sleep.

We booked into the Aloha Beach because it was the site for an Elderhostel program we were attending. When we checked the TripAdvisor reviews, I got a little worried because several were very critical. When we arrived, we couldn't see much to complain about. The open air lobby is charming. The service is very friendly. Yes, there was still some remodelling going on, but nothing obtrusive. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a great view. The food in the restaurant was excellent, service was very friendly. We stayed on for two weeks extra and enjoyed ourselves immensely. This is not a glitzy modern resort, but the location makes up for that. You are right next door to Lydgate Park and its sheltered snorkeling and swimming. The Coconut Marketplace and its shops and restaurants is a couple of miles down the road. The varied restaurants and shops of Kapa"a were very handy. You are only about an hour's drive from Princeville and Hanalei to the North and to the South about the same to get to Poipu and Koloa, slightly more to Waimea and the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.

This is the last day of our stay here at Aloha Beach in Kauai. We booked through Alaska Airlines before we read the reviews that others had writen about this hotel. After reading the reviews, we called Alaska to see about changing hotels and I am so glad our agent talked us out of it. This place is charming, friendly and affordable. We are right near a large wonderful park(bring a kite), the best beach for snorkeling and directly accros the street from the best luau on the island, Smiths. Our room was kept clean and the staff was wonderful! And all the hoopla about roosters is quite moot as the roosters are everywhere on this island! The money we saved on our room allowed us to go on a helicopter ride (Blue Hawaiian the absolute best), rent a mustang convertable and buy more souveniers. Oh yeah, we also could afford to tip much better! No kidding, this place is great and the staff went to great lengths to make sure we had the best vacation we have had in years.
Aloha from this 50+ year old couple having fun in the sun.
