“Average Resort, Great Staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

I've been coming to this property for years and have seen many improvements ever since Marriott Courtyard took over. The outdoor space use to be fairly drab with just a simple concrete hole in the ground full of water to cool off in. Courtyard has added many new features and design elements to the outdoor space to make it more enjoyable to relax and enjoy the outdoors. The outdoor fireplace and fountain being one of my favorites. There are plenty of loungers, daybeds and hammocks around the property to accommodate everyone and you don't feel crowded like many other beach resorts.

The staff is great and does their best to impress with the tools given to them.

The beach isn't a swimming beach at all. Of course it is beautiful to look out on but if you're looking for a swimming beach you must look elsewhere. The hotel provides bike rentals for $10. I usually take a nice four mile bike ride on a great bike path to a beach called Kealia Beach which is nice for lounging and swimming (strong swimmers only).

The room is nothing special, just okay. There is nothing in the room that stands out as being great. I've stayed in a few rooms that smelled really bad of mildew and felt damp. My current room has a leaking toilet and a broken TV. If I were just rating the room I'd give it a two star review.

The location is great as there is a Safeway and Foodland within walking distance as well as many options for restaurants and bars. There is a local farmers market every Tuesday nearby which can be fun to visit if you're into that type of thing.

Overall, it is an alright place to stay if on a budget and you rent a car to explore the island.

We stayed 2 nights the end of May and really enjoyed everything. We booked an executive room with an ocean view. The room was very large, nicely furnished but could use some better lighting. I've seen some reviews on the small bathroom but with 2 sink areas, one outside of the bathroom area, it worked perfectly for us.
We enjoyed sitting out by the beach, being able to walk to restaurants, and the guitar player one of the evenings. The staff was very friendly, the grounds were well taken care of in our opinion.
We were also very lucky to have a monk seal outside our room for quite a few hours the 2nd morning. We loved watching her and talking with the volunteers who monitor her while she was on the beach.
Kauai is an amazing island and the Courtyard is in a very convenient location. We loved our stay and if we're lucky enough to go back again we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we'll be able to go back in October 2014 for our 25th anniversary!!!

This is the second hotel of our trip to Hawaii. The hotel, to us, was great. Beautiful lobby. Great wait staff in the lounge. Nice pool and hot tub. Staff was very attentive to one problem in a room. The hotel is also a short walk to a supermarket and restaurants to the right. About a mile further is the town of Kapa'a which closes very early on a Saturday night. To the left there a small shopping area( which is a bit rundown). Only drawbacks: rooms are very dark ( although our garden view had a view of ocean if you craned your neck) and the lovely beachfront which is for sunbathers only. The water is over very slippery rocks and moss. Not a swimming beach.

We enjoyed our stay at Courtyard by Marriott Kauai at Coconut Beach very much. We were thrilled to have a room with a patio was literally steps away from the beach. What an awesome place to watch the sunrise each morning.

The room was very large and comfortably appointed, however the bathroom was pretty basic. The open air lobby is nice, and the grounds and pool area are beautifully landscaped.

We enjoyed our dinner near the pool our first night there, and also enjoyed the complimentary mai tais.

We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room by on beach.

Located on a scenic strip of the Pacific Ocean in Kapa'a, this hotel has amazing views from the ocean front rooms. Although it feels like a quarter mile hike to get there from the lobby, you will appreciate the effort. There are rocks and coral just off the beach, so if you are looking for ocean swimming at your hotel this is not the place. The pool was a bit chilly at first dip, but you get used to it. The large hot tub can warm you up. Not enough chairs around the pool, but there are more on the beach. Decor in the rooms is sparse. Free coffee in the am in the lobby. Specials on food and drinks in the bar near the pool. Safeway is just across the street and there is a fridge in the room.

While the service was good, this is an old hotel in need of a refresh. The rooms are dark, old furniture/carpet, and a bit dirty. Tub and light switches had visible grime. It's unfortunate because the lobby appears updated and modern. Then you walk down the halls and dirty carpets to even less appealing rooms. Don't spend the extra money on Executive size rooms. It has more space but none is allocated to the very tiny bathroom you almost have to back into. And, one other word of caution. It's beachfront and the sound and views are beautiful. However, it's a rocky beach that isn't really suitable for swimming. For me, it didn't meet the Marriott standard and I would not return.

We just stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the end of our fantastic Kauai trip. We stayed in a condo for the first 5 nights in Princeville that had amazing views and was tastefully decorated in a modern island style. Coming here was a last minute decision since most condos have a minimum stay. We only had 2 nights left and wanted to explore the southern part of the island.

Anyway, the plusses are that it was pretty inexpensive and the pool area was nice, looking like it had been recently updated with comfy round chairs and hammocks. There was also a great outdoor fireplace which was nice to visit with a drink after going in the jacuzzi at night.
We didn't go to the beach but it seemed ok. Not as pretty as the beaches on the North Shore but at least there was a beach there. Not all the hotels have them, even if they're right on the shore.
The bed was pretty comfortable. Front desk service was fine.

Minuses are that our room smelled horribly musty. Normally I would request a room change but we weren't planning on spending much time in the room. We had plans and needed to leave for the day asap. When we got back we were too tired to deal with it. The next day we just wanted to go out and we were already settled so we figured we'd suffer through the smell for another night.
We left the door open to try to air it out which helped slightly. Not sure if all the rooms are like this or if we got stuck with one of the ones that stink.
Very disappointing.
Also, being a Marriott, it just has a pretty corporate feel, which is ok for some people but coming from a lovely and homey feeling condo it didn't feel very island-y.
Decor in the room was ok if generic.

I wasn't really expecting much and didn't want to spend more money since we weren't going to be in the room much, but they should really figure out how to get rid of the smell.
I've read a couple other reviews that have mentioned this so I know it's not just my husband and I. Definitely wouldn't stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a Premium Ocean View room that looked toward the south. We were not looking out over the poo...
