“Great time in Kauai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013

We spent a week at the Courtyard by Marriott in Kauai recently. The staff, accomindations, resturants and bar were top shelf. The highlight of the hotel is the firepit that is between the bar and pool. Many o nights were spent with a beer in one hand, feet on the fire pit and a good story being told. Great place to unwind after a busy day at our favorite island in Hawaii

Room Tip: Make sure you reserve a room with an ocean view. Open the balcony doors at night to let the ocean s...

“Courtyard By Marriott Kauai Coconut Beach is very relaxing.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We stayed at this Courtyard By Marriott in January 2013 and loved it. It was a huge dilemma as to which Marriott to stay at on the island of Kauai. After talking to several different people about the 2 Marriott's on the island we chose this one and I'm glad we did. It had everything that we were looking for. This hotel is on a secluded beach and you can watch the sunrise with a nice hot cup of coffee every morning. We saw lots of whales breaching all day long while we laid on the hotel provided lawn chairs. The beach itself isn't really a good one to swim in as there's lots of rocks however we did see some of the locals go snorkeling for their dinner.

The lobby is nice and open and there's a valet stand, a concierge to offer you advise on the local attractions and each day there was a different vender selling their artwork (bone carvers, beaders, woodworkers). There's the typical Courtyard market where you can buy snacks and toiletries that you forgot to bring with you. However I will warn you they are overpriced but the good thing is there's a Safeway & ABC store just down the block where you can pick up these things for much less. Starbucks is only 2 blocks away too.

We ate in the bar a few times and the menu was very good and not too pricey. Pull pork sandwiches, shrimp tacos & Marriott burgers. The usual stuff. I did enjoy the pineapple mango daiquiri several times. The restaurant seemed to be over our budget and we wanted to try some of the local restaurants. However the breakfast menu in the hotel looked real good and very convenient.

They have a Hula show at least once a week with the most adorable little girls shaking what god gave them. Also the hotel offers hula lessons, yoga lessons and lei making lessons.

The hallway that leads to the guest rooms were very dark which at first was a little discouraging but who spends time in the hallway? The guest room had dark wood furniture but the windows were large so it was bright in the room during the day and at night it was perfectly dark and relaxing. Our bed was fabulous and the linens were soft. We had a balcony which was "snug" and really only fit 1 person comfortably. The wireless internet was spotty and really the best place to have good service was out on the balcony! I did hear that in the lobby the internet was much stronger. One plus on the internet is that it was free.

We went to the other Marriott in Lihue and ate at Dukes. That Marriott is huge and you have to walk a mile to get to anyplace. The pool is spectacular and their beach is great for swimming; paddle boarding. I've heard from several different people the rooms are very dated. This Marriott is also close to lots of shopping and several restaurants and lots of traffic. So with this all in mind we chose the Coconut Beach Courtyard to have a more relaxing and secluded time and loved it.

We will definitely stay here again.

“Awesome!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We loved this hotel, we only stayed our first night in Kauai, but wished we would have stayed our entire vacation there. A little pricey but very nice. We had a great time just hanging by the pool sipping on a drink after dinner around the fire pit.

“Nice place for a low key Vacation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Last spring we spent 9 days at this hotel, as we are Marriott Rewards Members.
Overall, hotel is nice and clean. Rooms are on the smaller side but clean. The Lanai rest. can be good but service is somewhat inconsistent. while, on our visit a new chef was hired and trying to revamp the menu, he did some sampling in the lobby to entice clients. Decided to try for dinner, the Seared Tuna we sampled that day. We receive a generous portion of Tuna which was by far too large for searing. It was raw. We did not bother, to complain to staff as they are not concerned about how your meal went. It's just a sit, served and bill type of service!
Bfast is very good, but can set you back at least $55.00 for a family of 4 everyday!
The pool bar and pool were our favorite spot as they make the best Mai Thais!! Wait for the Happy Hr as they are only 4 bucks. Pool and Hot tub were great, beach is not great for swimming. Lots of Reefs and rocks! Great for an afternoon stroll. Hotel overall, is good, for a low key vacation. We recommend stocking for sundries at Walmart or Costco for snacks and bread ect.. Only a microwave and small fridge in room for convenience!
Btw, the 1st night we arrived there was no power!! We checked in and the front desk clerk never bothered to let us know! We had a candlelight dinner and went straight to bed. We were exhausted after a 7 hr trip so we did not bother!

Room Tip: Higher floors have ocean view!

Thank you for the review. There are definitely some changes that have taken place since your stay with us last year April. Our new Chef has made some great menu enhancements and we've added many new resort amenities such as; bicycle rentals, Hula Shows, Sunrise Experience and many more. And we still have those awesome Mai Tai’s by the pool! Hopefully you are able to come back this year and visit once again. Aloha

“Great location, pretty hotel; a few hidden fees and bugs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

My brother and I stayed here for a week in March 2013. We got a good deal on Orbitz and loved the location--our room had a gorgeous view of the ocean, since the beach is just a few feet from the hotel, and the building is quite nice. A spacious, airy lobby; an outdoor pool with torches and small fountains next to it; a large outdoor hot tub; palm trees and hammocks by the pool; a bar and restaurant downstairs; and our room was nicely decorated with firm, comfortable beds and a high ceiling. The front desk/maintenance fixed things promptly and politely when our bathroom light was broken. Overall, the hotel felt well-updated and friendly. We could walk to a grocery store and a few restaurants across the street. We didn't notice noise from neighboring rooms.

However, we had a few small issues other travelers might want to know about. 1) The hotel didn't tell us it was charging us $14/day for parking. The front desk had the chance to tell us this while I was filling out a parking pass to put on our dashboard. I would have liked the hotel to be up-front about fees. We also ordered a drink at the hotel bar on a few occasions, charged them to our room, and later found small additional charges added to the bills. I would have liked the bartenders to mention that they were adding extra charges. It isn't that the amounts were significant, but I would have liked to know.

2) Housekeeping was thorough and the rooms seemed very clean; we had a small minifridge where we kept some fruit and cereal for the week. But by the end of our stay, there were one or two small roaches and a few tiny ants around the fridge area. Not a huge problem, but something to look out for.

3) The free computers in the business center are very basic and tend to crash. We wanted to upload a couple photos, but the computers are so stripped-down that they're difficult to use. The printer also had problems. Again, not a deal-breaker for me, but don't expect to get that much use out of the lobby computers. The free wifi worked well enough on our smartphones.

Room Tip: Fourth floor, "Ocean View" had a great view of the pool and ocean. A little noise from the...
