“Married on the beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

My wife and I stayed and got married here in January, and we invited 21 of our closest friends!

The resort is great, big enough to provide amenities, small enough to be intimate. By the end of the trip, many of the hotel staff recognized us and our guests.

The grounds were immaculate and very well maintained. The rooms were comfortable (But watch for tiny ants in some rooms). You could also see whales jumping in the ocean from your rooms (if you faced the Ocean). I would recommend getting an ocean view, it really is worth it.

The Wedding was quite beautiful. The Reception did get rained out, but the hotel allowed us to stay in the banquet hall instead. Unfortunately the sound system was having issues, and no one was able to fix it.

Be warned though, Kauai (including this hotel) shuts down around 10pm. My guests got a little rowdy and we had to be asked to leave around 11 for the reception(But we started early, and we were jet lagged, so it wasn't so bad). A great thing about this place is the proximity to the "Tree's" Lounge. If 10pm is a little early for you to call it a night, it's a quick walk to this nightclub/lounge which was open later.

Food was great, prices are a little steep, but not astronomically so.

Overall a great value. I would definitely come back, and often you can get a great deal for it.

Room Tip: Ocean View is great, Ocean front not worth the extra cost. You can request a microwave, and there...

We stayed at this property for 8 nights from January 19th thru the 27th. We arrived early on saturday and the front desk checked us in and took are luggage for us. She gave us a couple of beach towels and said they would call my cell phone when our room was ready. How nice we went off exploring and had that out of the way. When we went back we had a very nice ocean view room on the fourth floor. We had a great view. Our only complaint of this property would be the beds and the bath towels. The beds are so uncomfortable we had to call and ask for egg crates for the bed. They did accomadate us and brought one up to us. The bath towel are not very nice but that is minor. I did my research before booking this property so yes the balcony is really tiny, barely enough room for two chairs but it worked for us so not problem. It was really nice to have the mini fridge in the room and they offer free coffee every morning in the lobby. We really loved the firpit in the evening, spent most of our night there. If you can't get a spot don't worry we just waited for someone to leave and then sat. We really liked the location of this property and would stay again in a heartbeat. I know everyone says to stay on the south shore in the winter but I disagree we were all over this island for 9 days and we would stay in kapaa again. If we go back to kauai we will look at this propery again. The staff in great and super friendly.. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: When you check in ask for a egg crate for your bed right away. We were on the fourth floor and loved...

We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott for three night and found it conveniently located to Kapaa, Wailua River and Lihue. The property is well maintained, very clean, and inviting. Lots of chaise lounges by the water. We had a room directly above the bar and almost changed it because we thought it would be too noisy. The entertainment (usually a single guitar player/singer) was done by 10 p.m. so the noise wasn't an issue.

Had a nice massage at Pua Day Spa (which is on the property but not affiliated with the hotel).

We stayed at this property for 3 nights. The location was very convenient it’s in the center of everything. The pool is heated and there is fire pit to keep you warm. This property also serves cocktails and food which was a plus. The property is right by the water but the current was too strong to swim. The location is also few minutes away from grocery stores and restaurants. There were enough parking spaces to accommodate every guest even though it was always packed. The room is pretty big and it comes with a patio which was a plus to dry your clothes after swimming. Overall, I had awesome time at this property and everyone was very accommodating.

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott at Coconut Beach for a week back in September for our honeymoon. We loved everything about the hotel. The staff was very friendly, our room was upgraded to ocean front, the restaurant downstairs has great food, and the location was perfect for exploring the island. Exceeded all of our expectations!

Stayed 7 nights in Jan 2013 here. Great location for points north & south. Beach in front of the hotel is not good for swimming, but very nice to stroll along. Great fire feature in front of the pool. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. At first they put us in an "ocean view" room thats was all "building view" in my opinion. After asking for something better, and they put is in a great ocean facing room without a hassle. The hotel rooms were very nicely done with 2 major exceptions, the balconies are ridiculously small, and the bathroom is more Motel 6 than Marriott. Was pretty disappointed there. You expect a confortable bathroom for a place like this, but it's tiny and looked like it hadnt been remodeled along with the rest of the room. Also, the towels were ultra thin and cheap and basic bathroom amenities were really skimped on. This keeps it from having a "resort" feel that many people want. Parking was expensive @$14 a night. Restaurants also very expensive. Still a nice place to stay, but not quite up to other Marriott hotel standards.

Room Tip: Don't get stuck in the corner of the "recessed" buildings.

I would have given the Courtyard 5 stars, except that we were 'bumped' out of the hotel our first night! After a long flight, we arrived to find out that the hotel had overbooked (by 30 rooms according to the front desk) and we had to turn around to spend the first night at the Marriott in Lihue. The Courtyard did everything they could to make up for the overbooking, including comping our night in the Marriott (which was a lovely resort) and breakfasts at the Courtyard, and the front desk staff was very polite and helpful. However, taking several hours from our vacation time to switch between hotels was a real negative.

That said, the rest of our stay was great, once we were finally able to get into the Courtyard. We stayed in an Executive Oceanfront room (#235), and the only thing separating us from the ocean was a quiet pathway. For the price of the room, this is a great value on Kauai. The room was spacious, clean, and we loved the balcony.

The location of the hotel is excellent for people who want to explore the island. The drive to the north shore is around an hour, but the views along the way make the time fly. Driving to the south shore or to Waimea Canyon is equally beautiful and easy. Lihue is about 15-20 minutes away (there is currently a lot of road construction between the two right now though). Lydgate beach, a 5 minute drive south from the hotel, is wonderful for beach walking, swimming, and picnicking. The beach in front of the hotel is good for relaxing on the beach, but looked too rocky to swim in. Get up early to enjoy a beautiful sunrise from the hotel beach, balcony, or take the short drive to view it from Lydgate beach. Perfect location for an unforgettable sunrise.

The breakfast buffet at the hotel is really good, although $18 is a steep price for those who weren't enjoying the perks of being bumped! McDonalds and Starbucks, as well as a variety of local places and grocery stores, are a short drive north into Kapaa for a more budget breakfast. We really loved the poke from Pono Market in Kapaa for lunch.

The Courtyard also offers convenient laundry facilities on the 2nd floor on both wings of the hotel, which is really handy after a day of hiking Waimea or the Kalalau trail! Bring quarters.

Overall, we thought the Courtyard was a great value, especially since we were out enjoying the island most days. I would hesitate to stay here again after our issues with the overbooking, but if we got a good deal, it would be hard to say no!

Room Tip: For a quiet room with an unobstructed ocean/beach view, go for an Executive Oceanfront. We stayed i...
