I had a hard time booking this venue because of all the mixed reviews here, but I finally did, hoping I could bet on Marriott reliability. After a week there, I understand the mixed reviews -- but I would book here again. To hedge my bets, I bought a breakfast package and upgraded to an ocean front room -- and parked off site (husband didn't mind the walk and rental car was safe) to save the $14/parking fee. The breakfast is no longer awful (per previous reviews) -- in fact it's very, very good. Package includes a full breakfast entree -- the selection and quality were wonderful. The ocean front is actually just kind of ocean front at an angle, and balcony is teeny, but the view is undeniably beautiful, nonetheless. Wired internet in room is a drag, but I sucked it up and dealt with it. Outdoor pool/beach area are very lovely (especially at night w/fire tiki torches) -- adjacent water is rocky (fist size loose rocks) and hotel beach is meager, but I did go in the water. Once. I ultimately preferred stunning beaches you drive to, instead. It was great having availability of visually appealing cocktail lounge and lunch/dinner service if needed -- we took advantage of happy hour (martinis are very bad; mai tais are good but weak) and dinner in lounge -- our only meal besides breakfast here (food was "eh"). Rooms need renovation and stuff doesn't work (TV, bathtub), and there is mildew/mold smell -- but if you air out the rooms, they smell better and the a.c. worked fine! The rooms are also clean and maid service is good. The gym was just a couple of treadmills. This property is more conveniently located than Kaui Beach Resort (apparently, the competition) because closer to Kapaa. You can walk and drive to many restaurants. If you don't do a meal plan, Starbucks and market are close by.The lobby is a little depressing to me -- and if you come in at night, the property is hard to find in spite of a GPS device! All that said....after a week here, my overall Kauai island experience was so good, I'd come back because there was enough of what I needed at a good price point for me. If you're looking for a St. Regis Princeville type resort -- this isn't it. If you're looking for a venue with "enough" amenities, albeit not perfect, in your budget, this is a good bet.

Thank you for “hedging your bet” and giving us an opportunity to serve you. I believe we have addressed most of your concerns with the progress of our renovations. Our Total Transformation will be complete by mid-December and I hope you return to share the excitement. My Chef was pleased to see you comment about breakfast and has worked very hard to get away from an ordinary breakfast buffet to offering extraordinary breakfast entrées. We have been working hard to address the musty smells in this incredibly damp environment. And soon we will have complimentary wireless internet throughout the property and a whole new sense of arrival with our new lobby. I’m pleased to see you will return but I am confident we will do a much better job meeting your expectations. Mahalo
