“Ocean Front!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2013

We booked an ocean front room for a stay in Kauai for a family wedding. The view was amazing! Pretty standard room; bed, bathroom, tv, mini fridge, balcony. We loved sleeping with the balcony door open and listening to the waves. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Parking was a pain, the lot was always crowded and it was a bit of a walk to our room but overall we enjoyed our stay. Be sure to visit the coconut marketplace nearby!

Room Tip: Go for an ocean front room! FRONT, not oceanview

We stayed in an oceanfront room on the first floor. The ocean is so close and there's a nice breeze. There's also not too much foot traffic along the beach path so it is nice and quiet. The room was very clean and was as advertised. The larger mini fridge was perfect to keep the week's essentials in.

The grounds are kept up nicely. There's a beautiful orchid garden by the lobby. The pool and hot tub were great; especially loved the bungalows on the side of the pool. We also grilled out here a few nights. The Sand Bar was a ton of fun. The bartenders were easy to talk to and very attentive. Every employee we saw greeted us and were friendly & warm. The only complaint that I have about this place is the parking. It's great if you can get back in mid-afternoon but during/after dinner time, forget it. Trees Lounge and the fabulous restaurant next door (Hukilau Lanai) take up most of the parking at this time. Then you have to park at the Coconut Marketplace with a pass provided by the security guard. You do have to move your care by 10 AM the next morning. Inconvenient.

If you are planning on staying in Kauai and exploring every inch like we did, Kapaa is the town to stay in. It's in between the north shore and the south shore. The drive is about the same to the furthest point of each. If you want to stay at the hotel and walk out to sit on the beach every day, it's probably not the hotel for you. The water is a little rougher here than in Poipu. You are able to swim at this beach though. The town is a short drive to the airport too. The Coconut Marketplace directly behind the hotel offers great shopping and a variety store. This is also close to two supermarkets if you're planning a longer stay. Overall, great location.

I read many of the reviews before booking this hotel and it exceeded my expectations. As suggested by another reviewer, I booked a garden view room, hoping for an upgrade since we were visiting in September. Sure enough, we were offered an ocean front room for only $15 more a night than the room I had booked. We chose a ground level room and It was WONDERFUL to wake up to the sound of the waves. The hotel is beautifully landscaped, very clean, and the rooms are very nice with a kitchenette, love seat, and a table and 2 chairs in addition to the bed. We had an AC unit in ours but no fan. Personally, I would have preferred a fan (the temps were only in the mid 80's) because the AC unit was right on the lanai and was pretty loud. We would stay there again!

Room Tip: Ocean front. And if you don't need AC, make sure the room has a fan. The AC unit is noisy.

We stayed in an oceanfront condo unit (245) and it was amazing. We got to sleep to the soothing sound of endless ocean waves. It had a ceiling fan (I learned from another that not all units have a fan) but if it's too hot for you, the air conditioning for this unit worked great and was quiet. It had everything you might need on vacation (but that view was enough for me): 2 counter-height refrigerators, one with a freezer, a convection/toaster oven, microwave, hot plate, hair dryer, iron, dishes and utensils, and even a little cooler you can use on your excursions. The pool bar is a fun place to get to know other travelers as well as locals. The bartenders were all friendly and gave great advice on restaurants and activities. They even had a little entertainment on Saturday evening. It never got too loud out there, so it didn't bother us in our beach & poolside unit.
We rented through an agent (Krellers Getaway) of the unit's owner and their customer service was exemplary throughout my contact with them. Very helpful and friendly with great service. It being a condo rental, cleaning service is not included.

Only downside was insufficient parking. Alternative parking is available, just not quite as convenient. All parking is free though! And it's great to be right by the Coconut Marketplace for shopping or eating, as well as what I think is the only night spot (Trees).

Nice unit, excellent value. Would definitely stay here again.

Booked unit #214 through Aloha Condos. The only thing I didn't like was having to sign up for an account on their website to book the unit. Overall, very professional service. The manager Kristen Greene was responsive and communicative. She easily and efficiently handled my request to extend my stay an additional day. I felt very comfortable with how she handled everything.

The unit itself had a couple of minor items in need of addressing:

1. The weather stripping on the door was either partially missing or the door was warped, leaving a large gap under part of the door through which a few mosquitoes entered. I figured this out the first night and stuck a towel there to block their entry and it was no longer an issue.

2. There were also quite a few ants in the bathroom at various times of the day, coming from inside the walls. Having lived on an island, this kind of thing doesn't bother me, but I figured I'd mention it. I didn't see any outside of the bathroom at any point.

3. The small refrigerator works, but doesn't have much juice. Definitely takes a while to cool things down. It would have been nice to have a higher quality unit.

There were lots of good things, including:

1. The internet connection was extremely reliable, and had excellent speeds the entire time.

2. The A/C unit is a wall mounted unit, not a window unit. It worked very well and quickly cooled the place down.

3. The "extras" such as all the beach gear and towels are a great touch. I didn't really use any of them, but they provided quite an assortment of useful items.

4. The unit is a corner unit on the second level. The walls were thick, unlike many island lodging options, so there wasn't excess noise from the other units.

5. You are about a 45 second walk from the beach. Can't beat that with a stick.

6. The property is off the highway, so no dealing with highway noise.

One thing that can't be solved but that anyone staying on the property should be aware of is parking. It's really bad if you are trying to find a spot after 7pm. The property shares the parking area with few restaurants and a popular club. If you get back after 7pm, you will almost certainly be parking in a different lot and having to walk much further back to the unit. I doubt the management company can do anything to help with this situation, but you should be aware of it and plan accordingly. It's not a dealbreaker, but it is very inconvenient.

I'd stay here again.

Our five nights stay at this hotel was worth it. Imagine being just steps away from the beach – it is a beautiful thing. It was really nice to be able to get up in the morning and walk to the beach with your coffee and enjoy the sunrise. Although our rooms were on the ground floor, the view was great. We had the pool right in front of us and the beach on one side. After a beautiful day taking in what the Island had to offer, ice cream of dinner at Coconut Market, located right next to the Hotel parking lot, was a real nice way to end the day. The overall experience was really, really beautiful.

Room Tip: I love the ground floor when it is a beachfront hotel; it allows for easy access to the beach.

On our first visit to Kauai, we stayed here for two nights. While this hotel is centrally located on the island, we much prefer the Poipu area. The rooms were clean and beds were comforable, but they were quite dated, with old furniture, kitchenette and bathroom fixtures, etc. We paid the same for the Aston in Poipu and that place was incredible.
