My husband and I stayed at this location in Kapaa because of its close proximity to both ends of the island - even a travel agent said we were staying in a good location. We're an active (adventure-racing/triathlon/marathon- type) professional couple who found the facility quite charming. The hotel staff was friendly (our rate was $90/night), exuded the aloha spirit, and certainly pointed out points of interest on the island. For beachfront property, not to mention a path to run on and a beach to surf/snorkel on right outside your private lanai, you really do get rustic accomodations appropriate for the amount of money you spend on the room. It's close to great local restaurants with excellent food as well as a supermarket. If you are looking for a simple, basic location for a base camp prior to executing the Kalaulau Trail (or returning from) or marathon snorkeling/diving throughout the island, this place is perfect for you and your significant other. If you need to be pampered with fluffy pillows and pretty much not venture out into what Kauai has to offer, then definitely the $200+ rooms at other locations are for you. It's no-frills accomodation because Kauai has so much to offer OUTSIDE. We highly recommend the Coral Reef Hotel for those who truly go to Kauai to experience its natural beauty!
