“Solid, but some drawbacks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2007

My new wife and I stayed here for our honeymoon. We had a great time, but there are some things travelers should know before staying here.

The bad news first.

1. The bar area closed really early. If you want to have cocktails at night, be prepared to go somewhere else or bring your own to the beach.
2. We didn't see anyone swimming in the ocean as the current was pretty rough.
3. The brand new toaster didn't work.
4. There were a few days when we had to remind housekeeping to clean our room.

The good news.

1. The location was great. You could walk to a grocery store to get said cocktails and other food. It was also a pretty quick drive to anywhere on the island. Restaurants were also a short drive away.

2. The room had a great kitchen so you could cook for yourself. There was also a washing machine and free internet access.

3. The pool area was really nice, and the kids we saw seemed to have a great time.

4. We didn't get anyone asking us about buying into the timeshare.

All in all, the property is still a work in progrss (they were building a new salon when we were there.) That said, I would consider going back to that property on a return trip.

Hope this helps and have a great time.

My new wife and I stayed in this hotel on our honeymoon. The property was very nice everything was first class. Parking was abundant, all the facilities were beautiful and the rooms were spotless. The kitchen was fantastic with first rate appliances. Safeway and Starbucks are a 3 minute walk across the street.

The beach is nice to look at, but it is not swimmable. It is rocky and has heavy surf. Moloaa Bay is a 15 minute drive north of the property and is absolutely stunning. When I visited I had the entire 1/2 mile of white sand to myself.

Being on the east side this property is centrally located. About an hour and fifteen minutes from both Waimea and Tunnels beach.

A great hotel, would highly recommend.

If you want a hotel that gives you the feeling that you are in a tropical, exotic location this isn't the one for you. The hotel itself is very nice, the suites are first-class, and the pool is to die for. For some strange reason we decided to save a few cents and booked a "mountain view" room. There's a mountain way off in the distance but the actual view is that of: 1) the parking lot, 2) the busiest highway in Kauai and 3) an unattractive strip mall. The traffic outside the hotel is a zoo. Yes, we were on vacation so not in a hurry but I want to feel that I've escaped from all the noise & congestion - not immerse myself in it. All of the units surround the pool which is indeed awesome but there's not much to the property other than the pool. No meandering tropical gardens here. The beach behind the property is nice but not swimmable. The entire time I was in the hotel I just never felt like I was in Hawaii and we spent most of our time traveling to the North Shore to get a sense of the true beauty of Kauai. I could kick myself (actually I could kick hubby who booked the place) for not staying in Princeville. If you come here seeking the natural beauty and culture of Kaua'i, choose another location.

After searching through many many options, decided on this resort and very happy with it. I am here now in a 2 bedroom unit; in-laws in one room, hubby and I in the other, kids sleeping on the floor in the bedroom although there is a sleeper sofa...they just like to be close to us. Beautiful unit, booked through vacation rental by owner....much cheaper than booking through outrigger. Clean unit, clean area, very fun pool. Haven't taken advantage of the spa, concierge, bar or restaurant, but love seeing the sun come up over the ocean from the bedroom. East shore has unusually high surf this week, but like the accessibility from here to Waimea Canyon on the west and Hanelei in the north. Kapaa itself, while the biggest town on the island, is not the newest. Eggberts is a breakfast place close by, with great pancakes IF you make sure ask which fruit is fresh... the papaya and macadamia nut pancakes were outstanding.

  • Liked — accessiblity to the island; clean, spacious accomodation, good value relative to other Kauai options

This resort truly was spectacular. We stayed at the resort from 7/11-16. We were traveling with 3 teenage girls so the 2 bedroom/3 bath was wonderful. We were on the lower level facing directly out to the ocean. Unit D103. We could walk out our lanai doors and be at the pool area. As the other reviews have noted this beach is not for swimming but my kids enjoyed the pool area so much they never asked to go to the beach. The 1st day we arrived we went to see the beach and there were 2 monk seals right in front of the resort.

In regards to the room, we had no complaints. The beds were very comfortable. Very clean and I am extremely particular about this. High appliances in the kitchen. Our view was wonderful. Exactly what I booked. It was quiet in the room. No loud hall noise or from the room next door or above.

The exterior was exceptional. They are still working on some things but nothing that is loud or annoying. The entire resort was sold ut while we were there but there pool area was never overly crowded. There was a party for a film crew that was staying at the resort one of the nites but with our doors closed it did not disturb us at all.

We cannot wait to return. I booked direct through the hotel.

Exceeded our expectations. Interiors were beautifully done, very expensive top of the line materials. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Many stores (groceries, fast food, pharmacy, Starbucks, Cold Stone Creamery) across the street. Close to airport and easy access to north or south shore for day trips. Pool was beautiful and not crowded at any time.

Beach is good for snorkeling but coral makes swimming hard.

Recommend an inside unit as the adjacent property on the north side is not much to look at.

We found out that only the units rented by the hotel have new keys made for each guest visit. Be careful with belongings if renting direct from owner as they use the same key over and over between guests without changing it (hotel does not have an agreement with them to change the keys and they refuse to pay for this needed security).

A great value for the dollar compared to other resorts on the Island.

Date: June 2007
We spent one TERRIFIC week here. Since we travel with our teenage daughter, the 2 bedroom unit was perfect. (In fact there was room in there for 4 teenagers!) And a balcony all her own, too.
The pool was even better than all the photos - just the right temperature and not crowded at all. Always clean and the grounds were swept daily.
As you have read before, the whole unit is pretty spectacular, but the most convenient part was having the washer/dryer right in the room.
We found the location, with the mall just across the street, to be one of the best features. If Safeway hadn't been within walking distance we would have had to drive and fight the very congested Kapaa traffic. The traffic signal may have seemed like 5-10 minutes, but it really wasn't. We did make use of the kitchen so made a few trips to Safeway!
Kapaa is a good central location for traveling to the other beaches and interests on the island. (But do allow a few extra minutes for traffic when you head back to the airport.)
The only 'issue' we had was that there was a wedding on Saturday night and the band played late into the night. But with the doors closed we were able to keep most of the sound out.
Our favorite activity was the boat trip we took on Holoholo Charters. The 7 hour trip was awsome, saw LOTS of dolphins, flying fish and monk seals, and of course wonderful views of the Na Pali coast. Something to remember ----
ONE WEEK ON THIS ISLAND IS NOT ENOUGH!
