“Beautiful Condo - Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

We stayed in the King Waupouli condo A107 for one week in October. The Condo was perfect for our family of 4. The condo interior is beautiful. The woodwork is rich and the appliances are top shelf. Our unit was a corner unit which gave us 2 shays lounges. We loved sitting in the lounges having an evening drink. Every night we slept with the sliding glass doors open so we could hear the ocean.
Much has been written about the pool and it is very nice (I could see how it could get a little crowded with kids if you visited during a school holiday)
The condo also included beach chairs and boggie boards which we took with us to the beaches.
The location of the Waupouli Resort is perfect. Half way between the beauty of the north shore and the predictably Sunny beaches of Poipu. I personally love the north shore but if you are only in Kauai for 7 days you have to guard against rainy days which are much more frequent in the north. Waupouli which is in Kapaa lets you go either way based on the days weather. There are also plenty of reasonably priced (for Hawaii) restaurants within a short drive.
We rented the condo through Kauai Exclusive. They we very easy to deal with. While in Kauai we worked most closely with Patrick. He really helped us out getting me into the condo ahead of check in time and then day of departure since our flight didn't leave until 8 PM making arrangements for us to park our bags and change in another room. They really made us feel they were there to help us out.

Room Tip: Use the Waupouli site map to locate the direct ocean front condos. They are worth it.

I'm not quite sure why this condo complex is listed in the hotel section, when really it belongs in "other lodgings". We reserved our room through a travel agent for three nights and were unaware that it really isn't a hotel. We checked in at a reservations desk that is located in an area/office off of the lobby. (Which happened to be pleasantly air conditioned, whereas the rest of the public areas are not, making for a hot sweaty trek to and from our "room"). We were then told that we would NOT have our room serviced daily unless we wanted to pay something like $40 per day extra. And we HAD to pay a $40 'fee' to service/clean the room when we checked out! So, NO freshly made-up bed, NO fresh towels, (try using the same 4 towels for three days when there was no way to get them dry between showers), garbage cans were not emptied, no ice machine, no room service, nothing. We had 'a problem' with the first "hotel room" they give us, so trekked back to check-in area, only to be told that we had few options due the fact that they only had 6 "hotel rooms", total. TOTAL. Eh? AND they only had one other "room" available. We checked it out, and took it. If we could have, at this point checked out, we would have, but we were in the middle of our trip and decided to grin and bear it. Never again. We surmise that the "room" we had is privately owned and an investment property. The air conditioning is rigged to a motion detector that automatically shuts off the air when one leaves, meaning the room is hot and stuffy when one returns. And while one is asleep, shuts off due to lack of motion making for a very unpleasant nights sleep. Although the bed was so uncomfortable to begin with, it's amazing we got any sleep at all. The "room" contains a fairly large closet that contains the A/C unit and a full size water heater. The room was pleasantly decorated, but fairly small. Bathroom was quite large but had no tub, only a shower with a very small showerhead with very weak water pressure, and very poor lighting. The "key" system, as mentioned in previous reviews is a mess and rapidly grows tiresome. We didn't use the pool or eat/drink at Oasis as on checking them out we didn't care to subject ourselves to any of it. I would not recommend this property, it is NOT a hotel.

We stayed at Waipouli Beach Resort for 7 days at the end of September. It was absolutely beautiful! The pictures for WBR are exactly as is. We did not want to leave. We rented through VRBO. Candace at Kauai Calls was very accommodating and she was wonderful to deal with. The condo is first rate. Appliances are tops. I don't know about the other units but this unit had a Fisher and Paykel Dishwasher - was truly impressed. The grounds at WBR were immaculate. Very well maintained. Always saw maintenance cleaning. Although we did not use the grills, every morning we saw maintenance cleaning the grates. After our morning walk, we lifted the cover on one of the grills and was amazed by how clean the grates were. Every speck of grease, food residue was gone. The grates looked shiny and brand new. WBR is in a nice location, central to everything on the island. We would not hesitate to come back here if we find ourselves visiting Kauai again. Wished there was a WBR on all the islands. Aloha

First of all be careful using VRBO. I thought I had a condo booked until the guy wanted me to send him the payment via Western Union! Then he didn't want to talk on the phone. Luckily I got in touch with Kauai Calls and they alerted me to the scam. Was almost out $1000.

Speaking of Kauai Calls they have several units at Waipouli Resort and they could not have been anymore professional and our booking and arrival went exactly as planned. I wish I could say the same about the Airlines.

H107 was a beautiful condo, well appointed, everything was new and classy. It was as nice as any five star hotel room at 1/4th the price. It's not on the beach but it opens onto a beautifully manicured lawn that I walked across every morning just a few steps to the beach to watch the sun come up. I'm a morning radio guy so I wake up early automatically and with the time change I did this every morning. Really great time to reflect and Relax.

We went to Costco and bought water and food. But there also was a grocery store right across the street. By the way if you are from Texas like me. Don't look for liquor stores, they sell it in the grocery.

The folks in the pool restaurant were also great to chat with. We didn't eat the food, we made our own.

Aloha

Room Tip: H107 No real view but it's just outside the sliding doors.

We stayed at Waipouli for ten days. I loved this hotel/condo because it was so incredibly well maintained, high end construction and very quiet. We wanted a place where we could cook for ourselves, and we found this hotel to be very conducive to that activity. The appliances are great. The beach was wonderful and relaxing, but don’t expect to swim or snorkel there. The best snorkeling we found was at Poipu (south end) or Anni beach (north side). The pool was beautiful and grounds well maintained. Each unit has something different to offer. We stayed in two different units. It depends on the owner as to how well-maintained the units are. The A/C in our first unit kept cutting out at night. We asked to be moved and the second unit was much better in many ways. The bed was MUCH better (pillow top) and the room was better stocked with the things we needed (i.e. cleaning supplies etc.) We rented through the hotel web site. There are grocery stores right across the street and several restaurants. Lemon Grass is an especially good place to eat. The only negative about the area is the high traffic at certain times of the day. You won’t notice the traffic if you are on the inside buildings of the hotel. Oh, also parking is FREE, which was another plus. Many of the hotel properties charge for parking daily.

Room Tip: Be sure and ask about specifics, if you are in need of a very good bed, ask what is in the unit. No...

Aloha,
The staff & management would like to thank you for taking time out to post this reveiw. One of the positives when renting via Outrigger is having the ability to move our guest should they need or require a different unit. Obviously this benefit worked out well for you!
We look forward to your next visit to Kauai and The Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa.

We rented through vrbo (http://www.vrbo.com/113109)

Kelly, the owner was very gracious and easy to work with. Sheila, the property manager for this unit, was very responsive. Both allowed us late check out, which was very helpful for our napping daughter!

We did not have to check in when we arrived. We did walk through the reception desk and it's beautiful lobby area. The grounds are very clean. We did not really any help from the beach resort folks except to check out towels and trade them in. They were very friendly.

There are several bbq grills around the pool area. We never had to wait to use it. The water slides and pool are awesome here! There's a toddler pool for hte little kiddies. We mainly stayed here for the pool and would stay here again just because of it!

The beach is very close by. It's not a swimming beach, but it's really pretty to go out there, let the kids play in the sand and watch the sunrise.

Would definitely come here again and would definitely rent from the same condo owner.

The resort was great! Our 1 bedroom was beautiful with a full kitchen, living room, bedroom, washer & dryer and bathroom. It was wonderful to be able to shop across the street at Safeway and Foodland. We made breakfast every morning in our room. There were no pot holders however so that made it hard to use the oven and microwave. There was no salt & pepper or coffee filters either. It was great that there was a traffic light right at the resort or you'd never be able to get out. The traffic can be bad in that area.

We did not appreciate the construction noise from next door that started at 7am, however, with the sliding door closed it was manageable. The unsecure and slow wi-fi meant we could go on our laptop but we made sure to always shut it off when done. We also had to sign in every 24 hrs because there was no secure wi-fi.

The bed was comfy as was the sofa. We also loved the 2 person bathtub but thought the shower was a bit small and there was no light over it so it felt like you were showering in the dark. If you came in from the beach and brought sand with you, there was no broom or dustpan so you could sweep up. We also couldn't find a water source at the resort's beach so we could wash the sand off our feet after walking on the beach.

The sunrises were spectacular either from our living room's balcony (room C406) or from the beach. We were sad that the beach's water was not usable for snorkeling and the sand was more crushed stone than sand.

We loved the pool area. The slides were fun and the separate hot tubs (family and adults only) were great. The lazy river was a waste of space because there was no current to get you through it. You either swam it or walked it.

The concierge was knowledgeable and when we stopped after arriving, she gave us a map and some coupons which were helpful. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary and we had a wonderful time. We had appetizers and dessert at the Oasis restaurant 1 night because the prices were too high for the meals. It was good and the service excellent.

We booked our package (flight, hotel and car) through hotels.com and our flights were changed several times. We hated that.
