“Perfect Unit: C103”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

A group of us stayed here the week before Memorial Day and everyone loved this place, and some probably had too much love for the pool and hot tubs. We rented 2 units C103 & D405(?) and the layout was pretty much identical with spacious rooms and a fully equipped kitchen. This room was located facing the parking lot, but there were trees planted right in front so privacy was not a problem. Noises was not a problem in this room and parking was also not a problem. It didn't matter which hour of the day we could find a parking spot in the designated lot. There were many good food places in Kapa'a and here's a few that should not be missed: shave ice at Ono Ono Shave Ice, wraps at Mermaids Cafe, lunch special at L&L and fish tacos at Paco's Taco.

Candace from Kauai Calls was very helpful with booking and gave us a great rate. We forgot our scuba certification cards in the room and she checked and checked with housekeeping and even though the cards were not found I still thank her for her efforts.

Firstly, if you're going to book Waipouli, then don't book directly through the hotel itself. They only manage a few of the rooms, and apparently (in reviewing other posts) they're not doing a great job. Consider a vacation rental broker/manager such as Kauai Exclusive Vacations (KEV). We used them, they were Awesome.

First - about us: mom, dad, 8 month old, and grandparents. (note: this was not a honeymoon, and I think there are better places in Kauai if you're on a honeymoon. More on this later).

The Room: Ours was D404. It was awesome. Great view of the water and pool (inward facing). Great balcony. Well appointed. Air conditioner worked great. Dishwasher broke, they (KEV) had it replaced in 48 hours and provided gift certificates to the restaurant for our troubles. 2 bedrooms. 3 bathrooms. All very modern.

The Restaurant: Awesome. No other words to describe it. Great food. However, definitely pricey. It's situated right near the beach, and they open all the doors and windows. Probably the best situated restaurant in Kapaa.

The Pool: Quite sufficient. Lots of space. Lots of seating. And there is a unique 'river' that is about 30 meters long and winds its way through the courtyard. All in all, very adequate for adults (unless you're hell bent on swimming laps) and great for kids. Awesome slides.

The Hot Tubs: Three hot tubs. Two are designated for adults. One for kids and adults. All were great. No problem with these in the day time. I did notice on a couple of nights some local kids managed to hop some fences and use the tubs. Good for them!! :-)

Hotel Location: Very conveniently located across from a plaza with three grocery stores (one exclusively dedicated to health foods and totally awesome).

The Town: Kapaa is a quaint town - feels a little less touristy and a little more 'local'. In the town center, lots of cool shops and a few good restaurants and drinking holes.

The Location on the Island: Basically smack center on the Eastern coast. 30 minutes to Hanalei Bay to the North. 30 minutes to Poipu to the South. Very convenient from that point of view.

The Beach: The hotel is right on the beach. It's beautiful part of the coastline and the beach itself is ok. BUT - it's not a super comfortable beach to go swimming in. Adults can hop in, wade around a few feet off shore, but you wouldn't want to go too far out on account of the tides they occasionally warn about. Also, the beach water is rocky. You would not want unsupervised children swimming here. The beach itself is sand, but if you walk into the water, lots of rocks. Water shoes very helpful here. Lastly, it's not really one of those huge, wide, white sand post card perfect beaches. But I personally found it quite fine as we didn't spend much time there. One great thing is that there is a pathway along the beach that you can walk and/or run for a couple miles south.

Services: There are none. So, beware. If you're looking for one of those full service all-inclusive deals with social facilitators, activity organizers, nightly shows, and such, this isn't it. We were not looking for this. So, it met our expectations famously.

Room Tip: Use a vacation rentals broker/manager such as Kauai Exclusive Vacations. 4th floor rooms will have...

The resort was great and our room was lovely. We were on the 3rd floor poolside in Building B which turns out is right above the kitchen for the restaurant (the kitchen is a stand-alone building not attached to the restaurant). The kitchen runs huge blower fans the entire time it is open which are very noisy. So noisy that to sleep we had to keep all our doors closed which is a shame given the decks in the room.

Room Tip: The view can be great but don't get a room above the kitchen.

This hotel has just about everything you could want from a resort. The rooms are spectacular, with comfortable beds and great views. Also the pool is simply amazing. It winds around like blue serpent in the courtyard. This design leaves much privacy for guests. The hot tubs are great as well. They have sand floors that feel amazing on the feet. The fitness room is also adequately stocked with machines and free weights. Overall, this is one of the best resorts I have ever stayed at.

Room Tip: The mountain view rooms are more like parking lot views. So if possible choose the ocean views.

We booked a hotel room not condo with this resort. Most reviews we read before booking were for condo rental. Rooms are large and have small refrigerator so be sure and walk across the street to the grocery store and get snacks. Easy access to beach and they have a beautiful pool area. Pool towels can be exchanged daily and you get up to six. The resort charges a daily fee to service room but you can save money if you just treat it like your home. The restaurant food was average and hotel staff was pleasant. This resort as a perfect location in Kappa'a.

We stayed here in 2007, 2008, 2009 and now we just booked 8 days for 2013! We love this place. Our kids were 3 and 1 when we first went and it was fabulous! It just keeps getting better with age. When they were little, we could splash all day in the incredible pool! My youngest learned to swim in that pool, as a matter of fact! We have so many great memories of the beach, pool, restaurant, the condo, and exploring all of Kauai. I can't wait for September to come! We've missed it, something awful!

Room Tip: shop around on VRBO.com. Ask the owner for a competitive rate. I just did that, and he dropped the...

My husband and I stayed in E204 from May 17 to May 30, 2013. Overall the condo and the grounds are very nice. We loved the kitchen - very well equiped and having a washer/dryer is such a bonus on a longer vacation. My only cons to the stay were the following: 1) on one night our a/c went out and due to the time it broke (about 6PM on a sunday evening) we could not get it fixed and had to sleep without a/c for one night. We made due and the complex got it fixed the next day but it would have been nice if they had someone avaiable to fix it that evening. The other item was the bed. It was kind of bad in terms of the mattress - it had a large stain on it an the support level of the mattress was kind of compromised ( could just be me becuase i like a firm bed and this was extremely soft to me). However, these were two smaller items and I would not hestitate to stay here again.
