“Couldn't have been more pleased!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

Great location and proximity to the ocean couldn't be much better. The pool is so much fun, even for us "big kids". We had an ocean front room and couldn't have asked for more, hearing the ocean waves all night was perfect. (Of course we left the doors open to hear the waves, if you want peace and quiet it was impressive how quiet the room was with the doors closed) Would highly recommend. It really was like home away from home. Very roomy and comfortable. Would go back in a second.

Room Tip: Splurge and get the ocean front, it's breathtaking!

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon. We really enjoyed it. The rooms are updated and very clean. Our room had a full kitchen that we used a lot. The time that we did spend in the room was enjoyed. The pool area was just right; not too busy, not too small. The restaurant Oasis is on location and serves great food, albeit a little on the spendy side.

The location was great. It's across the street from Safeway, Longs drugs, Redbox, ABC store, and Starbucks. The resort is centrally located on the island; it took us about 35 minutes to reach Hanalei (north) and 40 minutes to reach Poipu (south).

Beware booking a "partial ocean view" room. We did and were greatly disappointed in it because it mostly overlooked the parking lot and a construction site while a sliver of ocean between two buildings was viewable from one of the two decks. So, while the room met the technical requirements of a "partial ocean view" room, it did not meet the spirit of such a description. We complained and to their credit they moved us to a room on the inside.

Room Tip: Rooms on the inside are definitely preferred. Avoid "mountain view" rooms and select "...

We stayed in a one-bedroom, two-bathroom suite in April 2013 on our honeymoon. It was more space than we needed, but we couldn't beat the price. Great location, right on the beach and only 15 minutes from Lihue Airport. Grocery store right across the street to stock up on food and drinks. Lobby is very nice and the pool is tropical and fun, especially for kids. Decor of our condo was very modern and clean, with unbelievable kitchen appliances. I would probably stock some additional items for guests in the condo if it was up to me (coffee filters, laundry detergent, cooler, etc), but that probably varies from condo to condo. This would be a GREAT location for a family to stay and I would highly recommend it for that, but it's not especially romantic for a couple who wants that resort feeling on vacation. This is a true condo complex, which I didn't fully realize when I booked it, so there is no daily housekeeping without paying extra, no ever-present staff to cater to your needs, no pool-side food and beverage service, etc. With that being said, it is an unbelievable value for the money and I would certainly consider staying there again one day.

We stayed at this resort in March 2013 and can't recommend it enough.

Location:

We chose this resort because we wanted to be central to the south shore and the north shore. This was in a great location. There are several shopping centers within walking distance (including right across the street), with several supermarkets, restaurants, a natural food store, ice cream shop, etc. It's also about 15-20 minutes from Lihue airport, about 40-45 minutes from the south shore, and about 45 minutes from the Princeville area, depending on traffic.

Resort:

The property is one of the newer ones on the island, and it shows. Everything was spotless, and the location is very quiet. The furnishings were very well-kept and comfortable, and the kitchen was very large and had great, high-end appliances, and everything one could possibly hope for, for cooking meals. There's a little welcome basket with coffee, etc. Note that some of the units are prviately owned and so the decor may be very slightly different among different units at the same resort, although very consistent. We only discovered this because we stayed at two different units (both 1-bedroom units) because we broke up our trip in Kauai with a stay in Princeville in the middle (we stayed at the Westin, which I've also reviewed). The one bedroom units we stayed in had a living area (note that because the kitchen is large, the living area/dining area is somewhat small. It was more than sufficient for me and my husband, but would be a little tight for more than a couple. There was a small balcony off the bedroom with a small table and two chairs, where we ate our meals. We had an ocean view and the breeze was fantastic. Note that some of the larger units have outdoor lanais with dining space. The one bedroom has a very large bathroom, which consists of a larger bathroom with a soaking tub, twin sink vanity, and a toilet, and a smaller bathroom with a shower, toilet, and single sink vanity. The two spaces are separated by a door. There were plenty of toiletries, there was dish soap and a sponge, and other useful things included. Note there wasn't any laundry detergent, but we bought a few laundry soap "pods" at the natural food store across the street, which sold the pods individually. The washer and dryer are stacked, front-loading, and very new.
The units were identical to the photos on the hotel's website. You need a security code to get in your unit, which was nice since you don't have to fiddle with cards.

Outdoor Areas:

The pool is fantastic. Maybe it was just the time of year we stayed at the resort, but it never really got crowded and while there were a fair number of families with small children, all the kids seemed well-behaved and fairly quiet. There is a small area with sand which seemed really great for small kids, who were happily making sand castles and splashing around. There are two hot tubs with sand bottoms which were great, particularly since it got a little cool on a few of the days we were there. There is a beautiful, although small and narrow beach at the resort. We lay on some loungers there a few of the days and it was very relaxing. You can get beach towels at the pool area (which we took with us when we drove to several beaches). The pool area is gated, and you need a security code to get in.

Fitness center:

There is a well-equipped fitness center in a separate building in the pool area, which seemed to get a lot of use.

Parking:

Free self-parkiing!

Front desk:

The front desk was very friendly, helpful, and efficient. The Westin in Princeville has a very early check-out time, so when we returned to this resort after our brief stay on the north shore, we were really early and it was way before check in. The front desk was very accommodating and allowed us to check in a few hours before check in, with no issues.

Restaurant:

The restaurant on-site seemed quite popular, and overlooks the beach.

What you need to know:

They offered a great AAA discount, so make sure you check that rate if you are a member. We stayed at the Westin in Princeville and if we hadn't prepaid for that room, we would have turned around and just stayed at this resort the entire time we were in Kauai. We would definitely stay here again when we return. The larger resorts in the south shore seemed too big and crowded - by contrast, this resort was "just right" and exactly what we were looking for - a low key, relaxing stay in a great location but away from the crowds. The location means you can get out to see the island, drive to any beach you want, but then return to your oasis. The kitchen is great if you are self-catering, although there are several good restaurants nearby. If you care about daily housekeeping, you will need to pay extra (we were fine with just the every three days cleaning).

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor room with an ocean view!

Great location and tastefully decorated modern condos. We spent 12 nights at the resort split between 2 different 2 bedroom units. Both condos offered decent views as well as easy pool access and ample parking. Rooms are very quiet with little noise from outside or adjoining rooms. Great location for a home base for exploring all parts of the island. Safeway, Foodland, shops and restaurants are all within walking distance of the resort. Nice beach front for just relaxing too. The Oasis restaurant offers a great happy hour and fun music along with a great ocean view! It was a bit annoying to have to punch in so many numbers to enter the pool gate... but understand they want security. Guests were great to help others out when their hands were full! Would stay at this resort again!!

Room Tip: It was pretty cool, rainy, and windy in March. Got to spend more time in our room than we had plann...

We recently traveled with 27 adults and 3 teens for a wedding. The beach as mentioned is not suitable for swimming. It is beautiful though and perfect for a wedding as there are very few people there. The pool is nice but very quiet. No splashing, coolers or pool floaties allowed. Pretty much just swimming or sunning. There are also no umbrellas for lounge chairs only tables. Pool towels can be picked up and returned poolside. Be careful in booking your condo. Each is individually owned therefore furniture can vary. Our condo didn't have a pullout so one couple ended up on a twin air mattress and wicker couch. The restaurant is good but drinks outside of happy hour are expensive. The only major complaint was the general manager who apparently made up rules to please himself. We tried to utilize the grills (which were rarely used) to have a pre/post wedding cookout with our entire group. Neither were rowdy or outside of quiet hours both times we were told to leave. First for having a cooler which is an unwritten rule and second for having over 20 people, also an unwritten rule. It was very sad we couldnt use the facilities for which we chose the resort.

First off, thank you for taking the time to write a review of your visit to Kauai / the Waipouli Beach Resort & Spa. I applaud you and the group for planning and executing a wedding on island. I wish the bride & groom the very best and hope they will return often for their anniversaries, This Condominium Resort like most has an Association, and as such there are house rules and bylaws. Even though I am not the Association GM I will state that this individual was following through on what has been asked of him. From my standpoint this gentleman has the best interest of the property and its owners at heart, not to mention safety issues. I hope we get to see all of you back with us again soon!

This is probably one of the newest condo/resorts on the island. The units are individually owned but from what saw are all furnished tastefully. The pictures are accurate. You are unlikely to be disappointed. I'd say overall this is a place for families. The on-site restaurant is good but the timing of dishes can be a bit spotty when it is busy (getting the appetizer before the drinks, etc). The beach here is sandy and nice to lounge on but coral and rock make entering the water a challenge, and unless you are careful and wearing water-socks you may step on a sea urchin. The resort is across the street from several supermarkets and within walking distance of a number of restaurants. It is approximately a 30-40 minute drive to Poipu or Princeville, so excursions are relatively easy. Rentals here can be obtained through VRBO and I'd encourage a little caution as the resorts units were sold at a premium and some have wound up back on the market as short-sales. Renting via Kauai Exclusive Management our condo was changed due to the original being sold, and another time through VRBO the condo also sold prior to the trip. That hasn't happened with my prior VRBO experiences, so this may or may not be an anomaly.
