“Waipouli Beach resort, Kapaa, Kauai D405”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Location; great center of the east side of the island made it easy to go north or south.
There is traffic and you need to plan for it to be very slow going for 20 minutes when heading south. Across from the resort there is Safeway, Longs, Starbucks, Subway, ABC store & McDonald's all an easy walk to.
beach; not swimmer friendly. you need to drive south to the park just past the river and on left.
pool; not heated well= leaving most to go into the two hot tubs. one is adult only, the other is full of kids. I had been at the Hilton in Poipu and their pools were much warmer!!!
resort; actually three properties in one; some owner occupied, some vacation rentals, and I don't recall the other. What this means is the front desk often can't help you and you are referred to another phone number to get info or help with repairs needed.
Unit D405; view of Safeway and mountains (called a garden view). Several issues reported the 2nd of 9 days there and only one ever got repairs. The living room TV remote did not work nor did the pole living room lamp. the living room sofa hide a bed is not fit to be slept on by any adult. Even one bathroom had a light bulb out! These things should have been checked before it was ever rented!! Would not recommend this unit or Remax/Kauai who managed it.
kitchen:" equipped well enough including salt, pepper and cooking oil.
noise: this unit had nose going on, unsure if it was from the water system or what but if it wasn't the Air conditioner there were always sounds.
parking; plenty of it
Staff/concierge; very helpful
Kapaa area in general; no night life, limited cultural activities taking place. If you stay in Princeville or Poipu area there is much more going on and more things to do which is why there are so many condos & golf courses at both of those locations. note that the weather in Poipu is much warmer than the other places I have named.
Snorkeling; is best at the top or bottom of the island, time of year also plays a factor in how safe the north is for this.
Weather; February= mostly mid 70's, water temperature was OK (about like the pool at this resort). Some rain shows came and went most days.
Drinks: they make Rum on this island and Longboard beer. If you have time go to one of the rum tasting events. If you want to buy the local Rum go to Costco for the best price.
Costco; best price on mangos, pineapples, food, liquors, vegetables, gas, etc. In Lihue.

Room Tip: rooms facing garden or mountains are closer to the highway and if you sit on your patio you will hea...

“Beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

This relatively new resort in Kapaa, run by Outrigger, was an excellent choice for our recent family vacation to Kauai. We had a two bedroom oceanfront suite; lovely kitchen with high end appliances and well stocked with dishes and cookware. The two bedrooms were on opposite sides, with the family room and kitchen in the middle. Our beds were very comfortable - slept great with the sound of the surf. One deck off the family room and master bedroom had a table and four chairs; perfect to sit and enjoy your breakfast while watching the ocean. The pool area was nice, with lounge chairs and shaded tables. BBQ grills were located in the pool area as well - nice for families to grill out while the kids play in the pool. There was a waterslide and some pool caves as well. The Oasis on the Beach, a restaurant located on the property was really good - best Mai Tai my husband had the whole week. The beach was small - but that may have been due to the time of year (November) and high surf Hawaii had been experiencing. Had good beachcombing. We did have an issue with our dishwasher one day - we turned it on as we left for the day - when we returned it had leaked a bit and was beeping. Called maintenance and someone was there within 10 minutes of the call. Had it fixed in no time. The condo/suite was also equipped with a washer and dryer which is such a great feature when traveling with kids and going to the beach everyday. Great location if you plan on exploring both the north and south shores of Kauai.

Room Tip: We were in Bldg G room 406; top floor corner unit. Away from the pool and any noise from there. Oce...

“Great place !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Waiipouli beach resort was fantastic. The Oasis bar and restaurant was a great place to have a few drinks right next to the beach. Great food and drinks. Only down fall is that it closes at 9. Prices aren't cheap but what is in Hawaii !! Pool and jacuzzi's we're great and the rooms/condos were as advertised. We rented G307 from a private party and everything about the place exceded our expectations. Great location if you want to visit the whole island.

Room Tip: Be sure to check resort map so your not facing the parking lot.

“Best suite of our entire trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

This was no. 2 out of our three hotel trip and was, by far, the best out of all three. We had a one bedroom ground floor suite (room 104) for four of us - three adults and a toddler. The suite was huge with a great set up. We really liked the ground floor as our toddler could go outside and run up and down the grass with the other kids. Large kitchen and bathrooms with tons of room to roam around. Appliances were great and all worked well. Kitchen came with a couple of starter packs of coffee so be sure to either bring or buy some. I highly recommend the Kauai Coffee Estate Reserve Kauai Sunrise... it's got wonderful flavour.

The grounds are well kept and the pools are great. Three hot tubs - two adult and one that is a bit cooler where kids are welcome. The pool is super huge with a great lazy river that winds from one end to the other. Two really nice water slides are open almost all day.

The beach is really nice and quiet but is mostly rocky so you can't really swim. We did see some fish in the shallows so that was a nice treat. Even better was the two endangered Monk Seals that came to sun themselves on our beach. Amazing creatures and we were really lucky to see them.

There is a Safeway and such across the street but... goodness... expect to spend a lot. Our grocery bill came to almost $200 for stuff that we could get at home for around $60. I guess that is just what you have to expect for being across from a resort. They do give you some dish soap but no laundry soap.

We felt like we were at home here. No staff wandering around bugging us. They were there if you needed anything but didn't hasttle you about taking young kids down the slide and such. (Our no. 3 hotel Honua Kai in Maui wouldn't let us take our 2.5 year old down the slide... totally lame).

Over all a great place and if we come back to Hawaii this place will be first on our list. We will probably go through VRBO next time though!

“Busy Kitchen in the middle of the courtyard Unit 201”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

This is a relative new, big resort with nice resort amenities. The pool is large and beautiful, complete with waterfalls and caves. There are three separate hot tubs, lined with volcanic stone and with sand bottoms -- very nice. It is also nice that two of the tubs are designated as kid-free. The grounds are pretty and well-kept.

The rooms are modern and nicely designed, with all of the usual amenities, including washer and dryer in the unit. It is strange that we did not have any type of bed-side clock/radio. (The rental agent says that they will be adding a clock radio.) They are air conditioned. We were disappointed that our unit only had a not-very-powerful ceiling fan in the living room and no fan in the bedroom. In our one-bedroom unit there were three bathroom sinks, two toilets, a shower and a tub, so definitely no lack of bathroom facilities.

So far, so good. There are units that look out over the ocean (very expensive), units that look out over the pool/hot tub area, and units that have a view of the parking lot, so make for sure you know what you are getting. Our unit looked out over the pools. Our rental agent had warned us that our second-floor unit looked out over the kid’s pool. That was not a problem. However, out unit also looked out over kitchen for the very busy unit restaurant. It is unclear why the main kitchen is out next to the pool, but it is. So, we had the smells (very annoying) and the sounds (loud) of a busy restaurant kitchen. The cook had mastered the art of percussion with the tongs and the pots and pans. That does not make for a very pleasant evening if you want to leave the doors open.

This is a busy resort and has that busy-resort feel, which we do not like. Because of that feel and because of the kitchen below our window we will not be staying at this resort again.

Room Tip: Make for sure you know what view you are getting. Avoid any rooms near the courtyard kitchen.
