“The show was great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012 via mobile

We don't care much about this type of food and it was what we expected . The meats tasted good, bud it's all heavy food. The desert selection was poor. We loved the show and were impressed how well organised this was

“Great food - bring a pillow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Truly a great experience. A family owned and run business for 60 years. The food is great and don't be afraid to try the poi - it isn't as terrible as people make it out to be. Kale pig is tremendous and you get to see how they cook it too. Tam tour is cheesy but informative as guide show you sow interesting vegetation. Fr dinner sit at a table on the outside near the bridge because you will get to eat quicker.
Bring a pillow because the seats at the show are a pain in the b%#t literally. The show is great and gives a real spectrum of Polynesian influences. Sit back and enjoy.

“Great time! Truly must do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012 via mobile

I was shocked with some of the poor reviews.... We had an amazing time, the food was great and the show was very interesting. What a beautiful place! Would recommend to go early if you want to walk around garden. If not 30 min or so is plenty. Put a jacket or remove your napkin from your coffee cup to reserve a spot then get ready for imu ceremony. For the amphitheater all seats seemed good but we sat to left of stage 4th row back and saw everything perfect! Great time! Must do!

“Great Food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

My husband and I wanted to attend a Luau on our first visit to Kauai, so we booked with the Smith Family. We enjoyed the tram tour of the grounds, especially the peacocks! It was lovely to spend our first hour outside in the lush gardens with all the "wildlife". I was worried about the speed of dinner, as there were at least 200 people attending the Luau. I was surprised at how quickly everyone was able to get to the buffet - it was very well organized. I cannot say enough about how delicious the food was! They even had coconut jello on the dessert table! The host was entertaining and the music was good. The after show was a production - lots of lighting effects and costume changes. It was entertaining.

“Worried by some reviews at first BUT it was GREAT!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

I was super worried at first since some of the reviews on here have been not the best for the Smith Family Luau, but we had to come here on our own to experience it first hand. We came here for our wedding reception and it was well worth the money for our family and us! We got a great meal, an open bar, and great entertainment!

The start of the Luau was with a trolly ride through the grounds which was really nice...a little hokey but very informative about the different types of plants and flowers on the grounds. They drop you off at the opening pig blessing, which was very crowded, but once people started moving towards the buffet it cleared out and you could get pictures of the pig being brought up. Patience is the key here as in any crowd to get a picture. The food and the way the staff got people into line was really efficient and not time consuming at all. Staff were really nice and attentive during the entire seating and eating. Live music during the entire sitting before, during, and after dinner. There have been a lot of complaints about "weak" mai tai drinks, which they were, but are you really there to get your drunk on? Well, if you are they have an open bar were you can get mixed drinks, beer, and wine. The family enjoyed the food tremendously, which the pork was out of this world!! The lines moved fast and plenty of seconds, thirds, or fourths if you would like! My favorite was the teriyaki beef...excellent.

The show at the end of the night was very informative about the different polynesian groups living here on the island and what kinds of dances they contributed to the beautiful island of Kauai. In all very good with a live band singing and playing all instruments.

In all well done...if you want to be entertained, well feed, and taken care of come here.

MAHALO Smith Family Laua.
