“Good value, good location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Spacious and comfortable suites in a central location. Very close to the wonderful Wailua River and Kapaa town. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful with advice. As we were flying out late on our last day, front desk was kind enough to store our luggage without charge. Beautifully scenic beach in front, though you will have to drive to a swimmable beach. Nice property.
Cons: a little close to main road, and housekeeping staff missed replenishing towels several times. Had to call maintenance twice to get a light bulb replaced.

Good value for the money, and having a kitchen is helpful.

Aloha Sam W. Thank you for the wonderful comments I am so pleased you enjoyed your time with us and do apologize for us dropping the ball on the towels and the maintenance call. That is not the norm for our team, and I will share your comments with them. I agree with you we have a great location. Mahalo for your feedback, and your business.

We bought a package for Plantation Hale on Amazon Local that was a great deal, . Having never been to Hawaii, and the fact that my wife and I like vacationing where there are less tourists, we jumped at the opportunity.

We arrived on October 22nd. We have had an excellent vacation, with a 5 1/2 hour tour on Blue Dolphin around the Na Pali coast, and I took a helicopter ride with Sunshine Helicopter while the wife shopped. There was a minor snafu with key cards, but we settled back into our unit with dinner from Bubba's burgers (my wife really liked, especially the onion/tomato relish). I turned in early while my wife stayed up to read.

At 9:00p, there came a pounding on the door. My wife, spooked at first, wouldn't open the door, but finally the girl on the other side told us we had to evacuate because a Tsunami was headed our way. She handed us a printout showing Kapaa Middle School. We quickly packed essentials (blankets and pillows, water, prescriptions, etc.). The traffic was unbelievable, and we originally headed the right direction, but had to reverse and go another way since it wasn't moving (thank God we brought our GPS), but decided to head higher uphill since the parking lot was packed at the Middle School. We ended up on a ridge with a bunch of other tourists, watching CNN's blog on our phones for info. As the first wave approached at 10:28p, up on that ridge, couples came together, wrapped our arms around our loved ones, and waited.

As you probably are aware, the waves didn't get over 4 foot above normal. What we learned on that ridge, though, as we waited, is that Plantation Hale was better prepared than the more luxurious resorts that our fellow evacuees came from. As we shared our stories, the others were amazed that we had people running through the building, handing out information, and making sure that people got out. To a person, they had found out either on the nightly news or from loved ones texting them, asking if they had evacuated. Everyone wanted to know where Plantation Hale was, because next trip, they wanted to be somewhere that someone actually cared for them.

So here we sit, the day after the Tsunami, grateful for the service. My wife called the front desk to ask who were the young women running the halls, pounding on doors until someone answered. We were told that they were a niece and friend of the front office staff. Thank you, Plantation Hale, for ensuring our safety and providing us with an economical vacation. As you say here, Mehalo, until we meet again!

Room Tip: There is no room service. Ask for scenic view -- you face the coast. Don't buy coffee, the Kau...

This was a great place to stay if you wanted a place in the middle of the Island. At one end is the canyon and the other are the beaches and Princeville. Close to the airport as well. The suites were clean, spacious and exactly what we needed.

The service by most everyone who worked there was great! The woman at the front desk in the evening/night, not so much. If you have any online discounts, print those and bring them in. We had one and they were not going to honor it until I showed them the print out. Lastly, if you have any friends who live on the island and want to come and visit you, tell them to park in the Coconut Shopping Center otherwise his/her car WILL be towed. That didn't happen to us thank goodness because the security is so friendly and helpful. Just get a parking permit for your visitor which is good until 10pm, then they must move their car. Other than that, you can walk to the beach or into Kapa'a which we loved. You are close to grocery stores too. We had 5 people in a 1 room condo and we were all comfortable. Watching the sunrise on the nearby beach is awesome!! I would go back!

Aloha Jen N. I am so pleased you had a great time staying with us. I agree our Security Staff are friendly, and efficient. They do monitor parking since we are so close to the beach. There are times when unauthorized vehicles will take up spaces reserved for our guests, and their visitors. Thank you for your feedback and your business. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Can't even remember how we found this awesome hotel but I can tell you that I have one happy girlfriend and a place I plan to return to. I made several out of the ordinary requests (a private table set with champagne in a romantic spot in the garden which I will never forget....) and the staff did not flinch. John, the manager, greeted us daily and even gave me his cell phone number.

Staff was well trained and so friendly. Most knew us by name and by the end we knew all of them too. They packed us a picnic lunch to bring to the beach, and quickly brought us extra towels when we asked. Key word QUICK. Attention to detail was very obvious and whoever trained the employees needs an award.

The hotel is clean, close to the beach and they really care that the guests have a great time. I WILL return!!!!

Room Tip: Just ask the staff to pick one for you!

This might be an odd time to write a review as we are just in the process of booking our Kauai vacation for January 2013. We have stayed at the Plantation Hale 6 or 7 times in the past 15 years and always look forward to going back there. This is an "everything you need" condo resort and the rates are very reasonable. The suites are spacious and comfortable. Fully equipped kitchen. The amenities are great for a temporary home away from home. The staff are very friendly and helpful… especially at the front desk. Good walking paths for strolling day or night. Good parking along side your unit so you don’t have to carry groceries and beach bags very far. Some of the rooms were getting a bit dated but we always felt that they were still good value for the price. We understand that some suites were being upgraded this year and look forward to seeing the changes. In previous years we always walked around and looked at other resorts and can honestly say that there was never any temptation to book elsewhere. Not even the luxury hotels which are nice to look at but not our style. After retiring, we bumped our travel vacations from 2 weeks to 3 weeks, then last year to 1 month. We found that by choosing the monthly rate at the Plantation Hale, the fourth week of our vacation was virtually free. That’s what we call value for the money. For the extra price we book the scenic view rooms because you are shielded from the sounds of the highway. Keep in mind that all the resorts in this part of the island are more or less along the highway, but a highway in Kauai is no worse than a busy street back home. The leaves are now falling where we live and that is really getting us thinking about our Kauai getaway and our next stay at the Plantation Hale.

Room Tip: Select a scenic view room or a south end room for a few dollars more to avoid the sounds of traffic.

We just stayed at Plantation Hale and found it to be a terrific bargain and loved the location. I did call the desk and complained about the party discussed in a previous review, and we commend management and security for stopping a very unruly group. I do not think children should be encouraged to drink. This was the only sour note of our stay, and it was quickly handled. We found security to be very nice, and visible. Other than the party our seven night stay was very enjoyable. The suites have kitchens which are great however be sure hit the fish market and grill, which was really a nice touch. We also got to know, Priscilla, Patti, and Alicia. They were so nice and helpful. The DVD selection is huge, and current.

Aloha Rossabout. Thank you so much for the nice comments and the shout out to Alicia, Patti, and Priscilla. We have really a wonderful staff, and it is always a treat to see them acknowledged. The choice of seafood on Kauai is abundant. Fresh from the ocean to the grill is a real treat. It sounds like you had a couple of movie nights, with so many movies filmed on Kauai, we try to keep our DVD library current. Mahalo for your business. We look forward to seeing you again soon on our beautiful island. Aloha.
