We just returned from Outrigger Lae Nani. We were very lucky to stay in Unit #331, two bedroom, two bath condo. In our opinion this condo had the absolute best views. We were very close to the ocean and just down the stairs from the pool. The furniture was a little outdated, but the gorgeous views more than made up for it, although, my husband did not sleep well on the bed in the master bedroom ( there was definitely a huge dip in the mattress). I loved falling asleep to the waves crashing on the sand. The unit had wall air conditioners in both bedrooms, although we did not need to use them. If you are looking to be pampered this is not the place for you, however, our family truly enjoyed the home like feel of the condo. On our final day, two monk seals were on our beach, it was awesome to be so close too them.

Within walking distance from the condo was the Coconut Marketplace, which had places to eat, and numerous souvenir shops. Also, just down the street was a Safeway, Foodland, and a Longs. The location of the condo was perfect, we were able to get to all sides of the island in a short amount of time. We would definitely come back and request this same unit.

  • Liked — The outstanding views of the ocean. Availablity of late check out.
  • Disliked — Housekeeping.

We stayed at the Outrigger Lae Nani the week of May 20, 2007. We loved the location as you can take quick trips all over the island all the time. When we arrived, the front desk was helpful and checked us in quickly. The entire staff was very nice. Our condo was clean but in need of some modern upgrades with the furniture, kitchen, and bathrooms. It looked straight out of 1975. What we found out from another couple also staying at the resort is that all of the units are decorated by the owner. Their condo was beautiful and looked brand new!! You can ask to change until you are in a unit that suits you. I would stay again but would ask to see the unit before taking my luggage in. With all of this said, the location was perfect. The pool and grounds were VERY well kept and the view was breathtaking. Enjoy!!

It was a little hard to find but once we did we were very pleased. We booked a two bedroom, two bath garden view condo but upon arrival we were upgraded to an ocean front condo (room 522). Condo had absolutely gorgeous views of the ocean & the condo complex grounds. Slept soundly each night to the sound of ocean waves.
The condo decor is older, nothing fancy but very comfortable. The condo did not have air conditioning but the ceiling fans were all we needed.
Great service; our coffee maker stopped working one morning and within 10 minutes of calling the front desk they brought us a new one. They provide beach towels but do not want you to hang them over the railing to dry (we got scolded).
The location is very convenient & the pool is HUGE! We did not spend much time on the condo's beach but when we did walk down there were neat black crabs to thrill the kids.
We had a great stay and would stay here again!

My wife and I stayed at Lae Nani condo 223 which we booked directly through the owner. I think most or all the condos are privately owned so they are each decorated differently. Booking through the owner is the best way because you know what you are getting in advance and it’s cheaper. The owner was helpful with the booking and even let me have a late checkout time on our departure day. I have attached a few pictures of the condo and the view. If you are going to Kauai for the first time you have to get the ultimate Kauai guidebook- Kauai revealed or it is known as the blue book. It is a great source of information from places to see to where to eat.
The layout of the condo was great. No AC but we didn’t need it in April. There were fans in each room. The view from the condo was great and we could here the waves at night in our room. Condo 223 is one of the few that have a lanai off the living room and the master bedroom. So there is a private lanai off the master. All the buildings were in really good shape and looked nice. The grounds were kept clean and there was a guard on duty. The pool was cleaned every morning. There were 3 gas grills next to the pool that residents could use and they worked great. There is also a coin laundry room on site to wash items if you need.
The location of the condo was great because it is between the north and south shore. Princeville was only about a 30 minute drive and Poipu was about 35. The condo is beach front. The beach in front of the condo is just ok compared to the beaches of the north and south, but those are only a short drive away. The beach in front of the condo is nice though compared to other beach front condos in the area. I did see some people boogie boarding and a few surfers off this beach during our stay. I also saw some people snorkeling but don’t know if there is much coral at this beach because I didn’t get in here. There is a small pocket of water protected by large rocks that is great for small children. There is also a nice pool right off the beach which actually has an 8 foot deep end on one end. If you just want to stay close to the condo this beach will do, but the beaches elsewhere are better. The beaches in the north are gorgeous so you’ll want to go and see them anyway.
This was our second trip to Kauai and last time we stayed in Princeville. Princeville is nice but not a good place to stay if you want to see the whole island. When we stayed in Princeville we didn’t get out and see the whole island. Like I said earlier Lae Nani is in the middle so it is easy to get to the north or south. This time we saw most of the island.
In my opinion the best beaches are on the north shore. The beauty of these beaches blows away the south shore beaches. The guidebook will tell you details and how to get to the places below. All the north shore beaches have great views and are surrounded by mountains. The snorkeling at Tunnels beach is probably the best on island. It’s also good at Hideways beach below Pali Ke Kua and Pu’u Poa condos in Princeville. They say its good at Kee beach but I didn’t see much there except some fish and scarce coral. Hanalei Bay is calm and has awesome views of the surrounding mountains and has a nice sandy bottom. It is also a good place to take a surfing lesson. Secret beach is a must see. The beach is very long and beautiful and not crowed. Moloaa Bay is also a pretty beach for relaxing. It has a nice sandy bottom and the waves aren’t too bad. Kee beach is the best sun set spot in the winter and spring. In April the sun set right off shore in front of Kee. In the spring you can’t even see the sun go down on the south shore because of the suns location. In the summer and fall the sun sets are better in Poipu and the south shore because of the suns location.
A good place to surf or boogie board on the east shore is Kealia beach. The waves are moderate and are always there and there is a lifeguard tower. Shipwreck beach in the south is also good for boogie boarding. In April the waves here were 2-4 foot higher than at Kealia so you have to know what you're doing here. A lot of people rave about Poipu beach but to me it wasn’t that great. It is calm so it’s a good place for kids but it is crowded. The beach in front of Kiahuna Plantation in Poipu is also ok. The waves are a little bigger here than Poipu beach and they do surf lessons here. The south beaches just don’t have the surrounding beauty that the north shore beaches have, and the south shore beaches are more crowded. If you want beauty and less people go north. I wouldn't bother going to any beaches on the west coast. We went to one and it was nasty. There's not much on the west side except for the road to the canyon.
Pretty much the only condos in Poipu that are beach front are Kiahuna Plantation. All the other places are ocean front but there is nothing but rocks in front of them and no sand. All the buildings at Lae Nani offer ocean views but only a few at Kiahuna offer a clear view of the ocean. Plus the places in Poipu are more expensive than on the East coast. We originally wanted to stay in Poipu but we were glad we didn’t. I don’t see what the big deal about Poipu is anyway. Other places on the island are much better in my opinion.
The best luau on Kauai is Smith’s tropical paradise. It is worth going if you want to go to a luau. If you are going to Maui save the luau for the Old Lahina Luau because it is really great. Duke’s Canoe Club at the Kauai Marriott was the best dinning experience we had on Kauai. They have a nice salad bar which is included with most meals and their tropical drinks were awesome. If you want to try local food go to Lihue Barbeque Inn. The setting is not going to blow you away but the food was excellent. They had the same pulled pork like they have at the luau’s and it was really good. They don’t have American style barbeque there so don’t let the name fool you. If you want good barbeque go to Scotty’s Beachfront Barbeque in Kapa’a. Their barbeque was really good and they have an ocean view. The Hanalei Dolphin in Hanalei has great fresh fish if you want fish for dinner and they sell it at their fish market.
The Princeville Ranch Adventure place has a good zip line tour. It was pricey but they all are and it was fun. You have to take a boat tour of the Napali Coast. The Napali Coast is a must see and can only be seen by boat or helicopter. The tours that leave from Hanalei bay are better than the tours that leave from the south. Leaving from the north gets you to the coast much faster and you get to see the best part of the coast. The ones that leave from the south turn back before the best part of the coast, and the first part of the ride has no scenery. I have been on Napali Catamaran and the UFO that both left from Hanalei Bay. They cost about the same and you see the same so go with either one. Both of these tours were great. Their catamarans are small enough that they go into the caves. The larger catamarans that have long masts can’t go into the caves. Going into the caves is awesome and make the trip trust me. Kipu Falls is a really nice place to go swimming. There is a rope swing and you can jump off into the water next to the water fall. The blue book gives details of how to get there. There is a nice well traveled trail that leads right to the falls. This was a nice change from the salt water. Go to Kipu because you won’t be disappointed.
Kauai is a beautiful island. The Lae Nani is a great place to stay, but don’t spend all your time there. Get out and see the island because it has a lot to offer. Send me a message if you have questions. Have Fun!

We spent 4 nights in a 1 bedroom ocean front unit (#333) and the experience exceeded expectations. Kaapa is a great location for those wanting to travel to the north and south shores, it is close to the airport and there are many shops, restaurants and grocery stores in the area.

The complex is beautiful. The grounds are perfect and the landscaping is lush. We enjoyed the early mornings down by the pool before heading out to see the sights. Some people have recommended staying in building 5 but we found building 3 to be the best. The view is across the cove with a great background of green hills. We went to about every beach on the island and the view from our balcony was the best of all.

The condo had everything one could need. The decor is a little dated but the furniture and bed were comfortable. Daily maid service was very nice. The units aren't air conditioned though and it did take a few hours for the bedroom to cool to a comfortable level at night but the sound of the surf made up for it.

All in all: highly recommended.
