“Best value in Kapaa (and maybe on Kauai)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

It's true that you must get there by 11 or so. I was there at 11:30 and waited in line. By that time they had already run out of a dish or two. Got the beef curry plate for $6.75. Delicious food and about as cheap a meal as you can find on Kauai (or anywhere for that matter). Two small tables inside and two outside. Process is fast and friendly. Charge cards welcome. Offerings change daily.

“Not inexpensive but delicious”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

We picked up a small selection of poke & salad/sushi to take to eat on the beach it cost $25 (for 2) so I wouldn't call it inexpensive for deli take-out. It was, however, pretty good and a good selection with friendly service. We tried poke, etc from several delis over a 10 day period, though & enjoyed other less expensive options on other parts of the island. Many of the little grocery stores have delis with delicious poke selections. If you do go, try to get there before the lunch time rush as it gets packed. I noted the cost per person as $$ even though there is no seating, it is a market but the "Cost per person" title does not match the legend description.

“Always Find a Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Stop by in the morning when the selection is good. You can always find a treat or food for a great picnic. Their spam musubi is the best on the island. Check out the cold stuff in the deli, as well as their inari sushi!!!

“This place has good food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

A little store downtown with a food counter. Kind of overwhelms when you first walk in. Pretty busy with locals who know how to order. That says the food is good though. The staff is nice and will take the time with each customer to explain the food choices. Good mixed plate with 4-5 choices like meatloaf, lau lau, Kalua pork etc. with a choice of salad and rice. Delicious. We also had the poke which was really good. Another Kapaa gem with inexpensive food. They now take debit cards.

“Friendly, fast, homecooking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Don't be intimidated by so many choices. The staff here is eager to please and explain. The Menu changes daily (they print it out for the week) and it is good home cooking. Try some local favorites at a great price. Opens at 10:00 and when the food is gone it's over. Do go before the lunch worker crowd as this is very popular. Plate lunch is the best. Wish we had this in Michigan. Maybe I should start one. I love to visit all the plate lunch spots and this one is a favorite.
