Just returned from a 7 night stay at the KCR. The resort is made up by 3 parallel wings that are perpendicular to the ocean. We were in a one bedroom garden view on the 2nd floor of the 3rd building. Had great ocean views on the lanai and had breakfast with my little toddler every morning. The pigeons are very brave and get to know your schedule after a couple days and start waiting for you.

Rooms-Great room and lots of space. The rooms seem to be recently renovated, 2 lcd televisions, newer appliances and all the cooking utensils you may need. AC worked great and a nice ceiling fan added in the Master. Great to have double vanities in the large bathroom as well as a washer/dryer that we used a couple times. Our boy used a very clean pack and play that the hotel provided for his bed. It seemed that we had maid service pretty much every day and changed towels upon request. The staff was very friendly throughout.

Outlets-Had one dinner at the Hukilau with the family. It was really great food and ambience. Suggest the Ahi Nachos and Filet. We did a Costco run upon arrival and had a bottle of wine that we bought as the corkage fee was a reasonable 10.00! The Pool Bar churns out a great Mai Tai, but is pretty low key.

Activities (on site)-The pool was moderate in size and never got crowed. Lounge chairs are easy to find and have areas around the pool and lawn area in front of beach. What makes it so family friendly is the toddler pool where my 2 year old was able to walk around and become comfy with the water. A sand box with tons of beach toys is there for the playing.
The gym was small and well used in the morning. There is a path along the beach that you can use to walk or run for a good distance (dirt trail in some sections)

Off Site Dining-Great breakfast at Kountry Kitchen and super friendly host. Good reviews from our party on the Mac nut pancakes and Eggs Benedict.
Kintaro for Teppan and Sushi was awesome. Hanalei Roll, Cajun Seared Ahi Roll, and the Filet Teppan got top marks. Very popular and can get crowded, make a reservation it was one of the best meals we had on the island.
The Beach House (Poipu), great setting and the food to match. Sunset here is spectacular. Popular surf break so you can watch the best locals ride as you dine on great seafood. The Truffle crusted catch of the day is great...had the Ono the day I was there. Very romantic, yet service was great for our large pary including a couple teens and toddlers.

Conclusion-
The Kauai Coast Resort gets big ups for its location. You can easily make it your base to get to Poipu or Princville/Hanalei area. Great family location where you can stock up on your in room meals at the Costco or the nearby Safeway and Foodland. Great when you have a kid to be able to prepare meals in the room. We were never asked about the timeshare presentation, but there were a ton of people going through it every day. They tend to walk by the pool during the tour, so that was a touch bothersome, but not too bad.

KCR is not the posh resort feel of Poipu or Princeville, but if you like to walk to a quick bite and feel a little more of the local flavor, Kauai Coast Resort in Kapaa is the ticket.

This was our second trip to Kauai and to the Beachboy. We love it at the Beachboy. We have points for timeshare weeks and we plan on coming back every year. The location is perfect for us to explore the island in both directions. You can explore the whole island and you won't have too long a day trip. The beach is not really a swimming beach, especially if you have children, but you can get in to cool off. The units are large and well equipped, great beds, lots of space. The ktichen has everything you will need for cooking full meals. We had maid service once during the week and they even turned on the dishwasher for us (we'd loaded it but forgot to start it). This time we had a ground floor unit which I wasn't sure about at first but I really liked the extra room to sit outside and enjoy the morning sun with a cup of coffee (Kauai coffee is every bit as great as Kona!). The wifi is now free which is a nice touch. We use the laptop to research places to see and eat. The pool area is terrific and a great place to relax in the water, on a hammock or a lounger. The snack bar at the pool is a nice touch although we didn't use it often, just for an occasional cocktail. The restaurant at the Beachboy is the best on the island (even locals living there said so). We also enjoyed Bubba's burgers (both in Kapaa and Hanalei). The Coconut market place is right behind the resort and the Whalers is the place to get any sundries you need or forgot.
We discovered a couple of great places to eat, reccomended by locals. Mark's place is in an industrial park (trust me it's worth finding this place) and they do catering as well as have a take out lunch counter. Some of the best plate lunches we've had in Hawaii. Your best bet is to look it up in the phone book and get them to give you directions.
The other place is the Ohana diner, a few block from the Beachboy on the main road. They have a great selection of local food. The best thing is that you can order side dishes of your favorite luau foods and share as a group. A small place with great food, family owned, friendly people, lots of food and they really don't charge enough for all the food you get.
Only one complaint. Those darn roosters keep you from sleeping in. There is one rooster that seems to start crowing before the sun is up. Hmmm,.....I'm thinking fried chicken next time I'm there?

I really didn't have any high expectations when booking here, most the reviews were for 1 or 2 bedrooms, and we were staying in a studio. I must say, I loved it! Great views, great location, lovely little pool. We mainly used this as "base camp" due to the great location between north and south. Coming to Kauai, I knew we wouldn't spend much time in the room. It came with a mini-fridge, microwave and plates/utensils for us to use, which was perfect. It was also right behind the Coconut Marketplace which has cheap (well, cheaper) little places to eat.

My husband & I visited Kauai for the first time since 97. It was also our first time at the Kauai Coast Resort. We had a very comfortable 2 bedroom unit in the Canoe tower. We made use of the exercise room every morning & the pool & poolside bar/cafe every afternoon. Great mai tai's & a great Greek salad.
Our only suggestion would be to remove the constant parade of prospective timeshare clients out at the pool. Wouldn't it sound nice to show it to them via a 3rd floor room & explain that you are trying to respect the current owners who are vacationing. It would also be nice to have the main restaurant be open for breakfast a couple of days a week. Even though it's a timeshare, alot of people do eat out throughout their stay.

Excellent resort/timeshare. We stayed from April 19/09 to May 3/09 and enjoyed every minute. The rooms were very nicely, decorated, laid out and maintained. The grounds were beautiful, including a very nice pool and onsite restaurant that was one of our top picks for the entire island. Very friendly and responsive staff. Clean resort.

Great location for travelling to North, and South of island. Beach that the resort is on is not good for swimming and is often windy and wavy (at least during our stay) Often headed to the south of the island for sunnier weather, but enjoyed the beaches on the North even better Keé and Tunnels were our favourite. Also enjoyed the following restaurants: The Beach House (great sunsets while you eat), The Plantation Garden, The Marriot (Dukes), Kintaro's (amazing sushi! & filet mignon).

Had a wonderful vacation on Kauai and hope to return again in the future. We would definitely stay at this location again.
