“5 stars for value, but only a "3" considering everything.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Perfectly acceptable. Clean, friendly staff, decent rooms. The parking stinks, however. Not only are the not enough places, the ones that exist do not meet industry standards for width. You may be able to park, but getting back into your car after the next one parks may be difficult to impossible. And the layout also causes some cars to be physically blocked if the lot is full. Do not expect a beach resort, do not expect high end luxury, just expect what they charge for, and this place ticks all the boxes. I'm sure that I'll be back the next time I'm on island.

Thank you for being our guest. My apologies for the parking challenges. We had to shut off about 25 stalls to close off the construction area for safety. Once the construction is complete we will have enough stalls for our guest's needs. We will also be adding valet services, which will help with the parking challenges.

Thank you for being patient during our beautification of the hotel and restaurant.

This is an older hotel that is being improved on by the Aqua company. And they are doing a great job! Our room was a standard and overlooked the parking lot, but the price was right and it was clean and cheerful. Loved the decor! Very 60's. Nice lanai and a/c although the a/c was somewhat noisy and should probably be on the replacement list. Only dislike was no place to hang the hand towel and the sink is small so if you leave it there, it gets wet. Oh, well! Did I mention the free DVD's? And the lovely security person who came up and helped us get the movie running, 'cos we are old and not techie. Every single person on the staff is wonderful-talk about aloha spirit, this place has it in spaces. Two pools plus ocean front-although water a bit rough for swimming. Also BBQ and some units have kitchenettes. Free Wi Fi too.

Room Tip: They are working on a restaurant in the back of the property (near ocean) so anything near that will...

I LOVED AND ENJOYED MY STAY AT KAUAI SHORES! Way better then Waikiki hotels! Never saw any staff which was alright but other than that I would defs recommend this place to others. I loved how clean the rooms were and how at night the pool would light up.

Room Tip: The view of the beach is beautiful <3

I recently took a school trip from New Zealand to Hawaii and we stayed at Kauai Shores. It was perfect for us. The hotel looks older on the outside but the rooms had all been done-up and were lovely and clean. The pool area was fantastic and it is located right on the lovely golden sand beach (although we did not swim at the beach due to the signs saying it was dangerous). It was only a 15 minute walk to Safeway and about 35 minutes to Kapaa township - great walk along the coast. i would definately stay here again.

While I hoped I might have better things to say about this hotel, I unfortunately do not. I was looking for a relatively affordable place to rest for the night after being all day at the community college while playing a concert with HPU/Makana/Streelight Cadence. The staff was friendly, but not very flexible: While checking in, I was notified of an extra $15 "resort/hospitality fee" that would be charged, however the manager on duty was very vague about why this was being charged- explaining it's simply a general fee that includes parking. However, if I didn't need parking, I would still be charged the fee. (Huh!?). Then he described items such as use of the pool, wakeup calls, internet etc... However, there's no option to forgo these items.

When I stay in a hotel, I expect some very rudimentary things- and even the lowest level of hotel can succeed. A bed in a clean, quiet room with some climate control (I see wifi as an added bonus, not a necessity- especially since this is a very big #FAIL for most hotels), and.... drumroll... a place to park. And I also expect these charges to be contained in the price I am quoted when reserving the room: Otherwise, it's very much akin to a restaurant charging for the use of their plates/utensils while eating there. The manager likened it to baggage fees at an airline, however one can "opt out" by not checking a bag.

He then went on to describe that I was still getting a great deal, and $15 is not really that much (to pay for things I don't even use?).

I would recommend the hotel adds these hidden charges into the total price, and will be discouraging friends/coworkers from this place until this "gotcha" is eliminated. For an additional $20 after all things were tallied, you'd be better served in the higher level Aston next door.

Aloha and thank you for staying with us. I am sorry to hear that a correct explanation wasn't given to you about the hospitality fee. This fee includes, the wifi, parking, local and 1-800 phone calls, in-room safe, Coffee and Tea service from 6:00am to 10:00am, business center, Manager's cocktail reception once a week and three days per week of Yoga on the beach.

We are also a fully renovated hotel on the beach.

Hope you will visit us again soon.

Before we stayed here we stayed at Castle Mokihana. We expected this to be better, as it cost more and had air conditioning. But the ceiling fan was so slow we ended up in separate beds just to get some air. Couldn't use the air conditioner as it blew cold musty air. We asked for a king bed, didn't get it. Thought we would have a view, but found out that view rooms cost more. Thought we would get the trade wind in the room but we were on the wrong side of the building. It is clean. If you stay here and want a view be sure to ask for a view room with a trade wind.

Thanks for staying with us. Sorry to hear that your experience wasn't a positive one. The fan has three settings and the Air condition units are new, less than a year old.

We also have different view categories and we offer Standard, garden/mountain view, Deluxe Pool view and ocean view.

We have both types of bedding, King or 2 queens. Depending on the availability we do our best to honor your request.
Hope you will visit us again and reserve a room with a king bed.

I loved staying here from March 25-28 and wished we'd booked a longer stay. There are shearwater nesting burrows under the shrubs around this hotel, and the birds moan to each other, sometimes sounding like crying babies at night! I think it may have been distracting to some of the guests, but as a birder, I was over the moon!
The rooms are charmingly decorated with a mod, 60s inspired tropical-asian vibe, and our beds were comfortable. We enjoyed our patio area, and the public areas are beautifully landscaped. My daughter loved the fire table and torches at night. There are 2 nice pools and a volleyball court. Plenty of beach chairs along the hotel's section of beach (not swim safe). Just south, adjacent to the property along a pleasant beach trail is the kokui
