Stayed December 2012 in room 212.
Room was a good medium size, clean and bright, but with limited wardrobe and draw space with fridge, good size bathroom although due to design a tight squeeze at wash basin, no hairdryer in room, you need to ask for it at check in (would recommend making the request at time of reservation, good size balcony, (although the seats had not been cleaned).
Free Kauai coffee in the lobby each morning (great taste)
We stayed here 12/21/12 to 12/27/12, in a deluxe Ocean view room on the second floor (room 212, a deluxe Ocean) facing the reception block with a nice view of the ocean.
Due to the location there is no traffic, but some surf noise, never mind.
Great staff, we had an issue with the a/c, it was reported to the desk and a new unit fitted within 3 hours.
The property has seen better days, some things are worn and require replacement, but the location and cost out weights the negatives, so long as you do not expect resort standards you will have a very enjoyable stay and can recommend Kauai Sands for a great stay on a budget, we would stay again.
The one and only negative comment I have to make is that they charge $9 a day to park a rental, which is not stated during the web site reservation process and is only advised to you upon arrival and is excessive to say the least, to us it was a large motel.
Kauai Sands is located minutes from the coconut grove shopping area and about 2 miles from downtown Kapaa.
You can walk to Kapaa via the highway which is not very interesting or you can take a great beach walk as follows, you choose.
At the shoreline take the path north past the next door Aston Islander and Kauai Coast Resort, cross the open ground towards and past the Courtyard Kauai at Coconut beach, then through the coconut trees until you come to the next property, the Bull shed restaurant and condo, keep to the left and walk up onto the parking lot and on to Kamoa Road, walk 100 yards onto main highway and turn right, walk across the bridge past the Outrigger Resort, keep walking for about 500 yards and turn right down Wana Road and round left on Niulani Road, right onto Keaka Road and round left on Moanakai Road then straight on until you pick up the Kapaa Park Beach Walk, total time to downtown 45 minutes.

Aloha and thank you for being our guest. Yes, we are located acorss the beach and it is indeed a great location, closer to the airport, shops, restaurants etc.....
We began renovations last year and have added more amenities, such as free coffee and tea services, free wifi in the lobby and other services in the lobby. The parking charge took effect on December 1, 2012 instead of an amenity charge which other hotels charge more than our $8/day.
By the Fall of this year, we should have a great new hotel with more amenities for our guests to enjoy and hope you will visit us again to enjoy the new hotel.
Mahalo.
