“Perfect for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Stayed five nights in november 2012. Ok, the hotel looked quite dated from the outside and in the hallways. But I liked the lobby and even if the rooms looked a bit tired they were very clean and tidy. The location is great and it's practically on the beach, although it didn't seem 'swimable'. Considered the price, I think it's a very good deal.

“Gets the job done.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

First off, this is a beachfront hotel on kauai for less than a hundred a night, so this should probably set your expectations. The hotel has definitely seen better days, but it's a VERY cheap and centrally-located place to base out of for a few days on the island.
Pros: Beachfront, with a nice view. Super cheap. Cold ice, balconies on all the rooms were great for drying gear. Convenient location for exploring the island--about an hour's drive to either the northernmost or southernmost points (give or take some traffic). Mini-fridge in room. The grounds and central pool area were actually quite pretty during the day. All the staff we met were really nice and friendly.
Cons: Old rooms in an old hotel. Not much sound insulation so could hear every car, truck, and loud conversation passing by at night (and there were a lot). The beach is not really great for swimming, but since we were there in winter when surf is higher the majority of the Kauai beaches were apparently considered dangerous for swimming.
Bottom line, considering we spent literally sunrise to sunset out of the room and only needed a place to shower, sleep, and hang up our bathing suits, it worked well, but definitely way below the class of hotel I've become accustomed to since no longer being a broke college student.

“Watch your vehicle”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We parked our vehicle in the area specified by the office. We noticed the security guard was shining his flashlight, inspecting the contents inside. We thought it was a little odd. Two nights later, our vehicle was broken in and several thousand dollars worth of tools were taken. The front desk did not even know the names of the two security guards they have on staff.

“Excellent location and great value for Kauai!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

It was much more than I expected before arrival.Rooms were clean and staff was friendly helped me book an ocean trip.Beach is nearby, its not suitable for swimming but its nice to spend morning with the local cup of coffee. We had room with the kitchenette so in this case location was perfect cause in nearby Kapaa they have Safeway supermarket where you can get everything you need.Plus petrol st is only 5min walk where you can get beer and margaritas.Great location and value so I really recommend this hotel. Its simple hotel but the price is also good.I dont understand people who complain too much,if you want something better go to Hyatt Poipu but this hotel really worth every dollar:)))Another thing about travelling, geographically youre are on the east shore in the middle of the main road which means you can choose where to travel north or south, that means Waimea or Hanalei are similar distance.

“inexpensive hotel on Kauai”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

Found a deal on internet for a pool view at $65 a night, total was $74 with tax.
First night didn't sleep well and in the early morning the gardeners were talking loudly and coconut tree climbers hacking off large branches falling right by pool. Wasn't a quiet morning...I asked to move to a different room and the hotel staff were accommodating. After checking into another room where I heard loud partying next door I asked for another quieter room and they found me one. Slept well that night. Check out is at noon so was able to go to beach in the a.m.

Aloha, Thank you for staying at the Kauai Sands Hotel. I am sorry that the coconut tree trimmers kept you off the pool. Yes, every three months we have trim the coconut trees or branches and coconuts tend to fall and may hurt our guests. Hence we have trim them. We also let the guests aware that quiet time is between 10:00am and 8:00am and we have our security officers patrol the premises and warn guests to respect the quiet hour. I am glad you were able to get a quiet room to get a good night's rest.
Thank you.
