“Like staying with a friend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2012

I only stayed one night at Patti's house, as I was on Kauai for a short work trip. But I had a great experience staying in her main-floor guest room. I arrived later in the evening pretty tired after a long day of work and travel, and Patti was very accommodating, made me feel at home and didn't mind that I turned in almost immediately. The next day, I was glad to get to spend a little more time chatting with her and playing with Bear. She knows Kauai well and had good tips for things to do when I make it back. She also shared some delicious mangoes from her tree, and the view from her place is just gorgeous.

The room itself was very spacious, private and comfortable. It was a little stuffy when I first arrived, as there is no AC, but after I turned on the ceiling fan, it was fine. There are some over-eager roosters in the area who woke me up a few times, but based on all the roosters I saw around the island, that would be an issue just about anywhere.

My one mistake was flying in at night. Patti's directions from Lihue were very clear, and it's just a couple of turns off the main highway, but it's a pretty dark drive at night with few streetlights.

I felt like we were visiting a relative. The home had a large space with floor to ceiling windows out to the deck so the kitchen, dining, and living areas all had great views down to the ocean. We stayed in a nice guest bedroom with a private bathroom (only problem was low water pressure in the shower), were served breakfasts with lots of fresh fruit, and got recommendations for where to go. The location was fine, not too far to Waimea Canyon, the south coast and Poipu restaurants, a bit of a drive up to Princeville (about an hour and a half). And the price was right--only $75 a night. Don't go if you're allergic to dogs, Patti has an adorable little dog who has the run of the house (except your guest room.)

We stayed at this place in May and it was lovely. The pictures do no justice to the place. We were welcomed by the frndliest dog Bear and his owner Ms Patti Pantone who made our stay even more comfortable. We would relax on the wide airy lanai, enjoying distant views of the ocean. Breakfast was good and the rooms were spacious. There was only one little thing that bugged us a little... that is the bathroom did not have a door.. which was kind of uncomfortable for us. It had some privacy though... still not the ideal thng we would want. Other than that it was gr8 !

We sure enjoyed our stay with Patti and her little dog, Bear. We had a very spacious room with en-suite bathroom on the main floor, both very bright with everything we needed at our fingertips, of course, with the Hawaiian theme which we thought added to the ambiance. Patti was very knowledgeable of the area and gave us many pointers since it was our first visit to any of the Hawaiian Islands. Breakfast was always on time and delicious and we could have used her beautiful kitchen if we desired but was satisfied with what we were served. The view is spectacular overlooking the Pacific and hearing the birds and other creatures outside was just wonderful. We feel it was great value for your dollar. We had a chance to have breakfast with other guests who were staying in her lower level apartment which we enjoyed. Bear, the little dog, was always there to greet us so we certainly felt at home. Thanks Patti for sharing your lovely home with us.

We spent 4 nights in the upstairs bedroom in the house, a comfortable, spacious room with a private bath. Patti is a very accommodating host; breakfast was always laid out for when we wanted it, we had use of all facilities (kitchen, laundry, etc), borrowed a cooler, and so on. She even invited us to dinner with her friends one night, but our plans for hiking in Waimea Canyon that day interfered. Location is in a quiet, residential neighborhood so even with a little of the ubiquitous rooster noise, we slept very well in that comfortable bed. It was only a few minutes off the highway to go wherever you want on the south and west shores, though on a future trip we might want to stay a night or two on the North Shore as well, because it's a bit longer of a drive to that part of the island and there's so much there. There is wireless internet throughout the house, and our cell phones worked fine there. The house has a wonderful view of the water, and is a place we felt right at home and free to come and go and enjoy our vacation. Patti was happy to answer all our questions and was very friendly, but never intrusive. She shares her lovely home with guests and makes them feel right at home. We highly recommend Hale Ikena Nui.

My wife and I stayed here in January 2010 for 8 nights. The place was fairly easy to find with a GPS, although it is pretty far away from the main highway. It is about 20 minutes away from Lihue (if there is no traffic). We stayed in the "residence facility", which is a guest bedroom with its own bathroom. The room was spacious and very nicely decorated, although some items hanging on the wall could definitely use more dusting. The owner, Patti, was very nice and accommodating, always willing to share her insight about local places, events, and activities. The breakfast consisted of tea/coffee, English muffins, and fruit, but Patti welcomed us to use her kitchen to cook whatever we wanted. Since we drove to a different place on the island pretty much every day, we didn't mind that there were no beaches or anything else worth seeing/doing within a close distance.

Since we always try to stay away from large hotels and especially overpriced and overcrowded resorts, both my wife and I were very glad we selected this place over other BnB's or vacation rentals.

For us the location was perfect. It is approx. 15 minutes from Poipu beach which has a very nice Beach Park. The weather seemed to be much better than on the Lihue/Hanalei side. The house is a bit dated, but quite nice. We stayed in the appartment downstairs. It was not perfectly clean, especially the kitchen. We have not seen the owner often as she did not speak a lot with us. We sometimes felt she tried to avoid us... However, the dog is very friendly and the price is quite ok.
