We were in a 2nd floor deluxe oceanfront room. The room exceeded our expectations. I expected to see a generic looking condo but the room was tastefully decorated. The kitchen was well-stocked. There was even a styrofoam cooler which was perfect for our beach picnic. The king bed was more comfortable than most beds I've slept in for my business trips!

Imad at the Mediterranean Gourmet is a genius in the kitchen. He catered two dinners for us and each meal was amazing. From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was perfect.

I was prepared to see the infamous cane spiders but later found out that the HCR's proximity to the ocean makes it less than ideal for these fist-sized critters.

The only complaint I have is that I wish they made smoking off limits on the lanais. Towards the end of our stay, our new neighbors included a smoker. Smoking is prohibited inside the rooms. We knew whenever he was on the lanai.

NOTE: When you venture out on the beach, please don't step on the dark, solid rocky portion. It doesn't look like much but it is coral.

Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints. Kill nothing but time.

This resort tried to overcharge us $600 for a 7-day stay. Fortunately, we had brought the original confirmation with us and pointed out the discrepancy to the lady in the office. She never apologized or explained the error. We passed along our complaint in the rating form to the resort manager, but she hasn't responded. In any case, our room location was fantastic -- within about 15 yards of the water--and so were the views. Likewise, the resort location is good--in close proximity to excellent snorkeling beaches. The buildings, however, are in need of total renovation. Don't waste your money on the mediocre food at the restaurant next door. My advice: Look elsewhere and don't get stung.

My wife and our two boys (ages: 7 months & almost 4 years old) just spent 8 nights at the Hanalei Colony Resort and it was just incredible !! One of the most beautiful spots on earth, the North shore of Kauai is breathtaking and we couldn't have stayed at a nicer place. We had an ocean view room that had recently been renovated - it was perfect - so comfortable !! The full kitchen was a nice bonus for nights when we decided to stay in and cook. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The most relaxing vacation I've ever had and we'll definiltey be back. Some of the past reviews mentioned a strange smell - we didn't run into that at all and explored every part of the grounds. There were also mentions of construction and there was a bit of that going on, but very minimal and I think that they are almost done. The Mediterranean Restaurant is ok - the food is good, but very over-priced. I would suggest eating in Hanalei. The Coffee Shop in the Art Gallery is nice - great coffee and bagels in the morning. Overall we loved it and will be back for sure.

This place caught my eye online, the write up appealed as much as the photos. The staff was friendly, the other guests were too, all in all it's a great place to chill out. It is not a luxury property, but it is extremely comfortable and relaxing.
We stayed in a Premium Oceanfront unit which was better than expected. The woodwork is worn, (this close to the sea and a building this age would take a fair share of wear) but everything else was extremely clean and comfortable. The bed was excellent and very nice to sleep in. The kitchen well supplied with room for groceries and personal belongings.
We did encounter whiffs of the septic system, but quickly learned how to avoid it - there are green lids sitting on top that signal you to stay away, we had to be practically on top to smell it. There is evidence of maintenance and renovation underway, but it was not a problem for us.
The coffee shop and gallery next door are friendly with good smoothies, great baked goods, and lovely artwork.
This is without a doubt a place I could return to. Some seem to think it is remote, I consider it out of the way, but not at all inconvenient. The location is awesome.
