This place caught my eye online, the write up appealed as much as the photos. The staff was friendly, the other guests were too, all in all it's a great place to chill out. It is not a luxury property, but it is extremely comfortable and relaxing.
We stayed in a Premium Oceanfront unit which was better than expected. The woodwork is worn, (this close to the sea and a building this age would take a fair share of wear) but everything else was extremely clean and comfortable. The bed was excellent and very nice to sleep in. The kitchen well supplied with room for groceries and personal belongings.
We did encounter whiffs of the septic system, but quickly learned how to avoid it - there are green lids sitting on top that signal you to stay away, we had to be practically on top to smell it. There is evidence of maintenance and renovation underway, but it was not a problem for us.
The coffee shop and gallery next door are friendly with good smoothies, great baked goods, and lovely artwork.
This is without a doubt a place I could return to. Some seem to think it is remote, I consider it out of the way, but not at all inconvenient. The location is awesome.

This is a great place to stay if you want more than a hotel room. We stayed in a two bedroom, two bath unit with a kitchen. We had 3 teens with my husband and I so we prepared most meals in our room. There are also gas and charcoal grills, (charcoal provided), we cooked some shrimp and fresh fish one night. There is also a great restaurant at this resort. This is definetely a low-key type of resort with great amenities. If you want to stay in a luxury upscale resort go to Princeville. The best thing was being so close to the ocean that you get lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves and wake up to a brillant sunrise that we could see from our room. I grew up in Hawaii and being at this resort made me think of the old days in Hawaii. I will definetely come back to this resort. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The closest you'll every get to heaven without dying. Completely renovated. High end resort with competitive pricing.

We stayed 4 nights at the HCR in late February, in an ocean front unit. We loved the place but the building directly across from us was under rennovation so had construction - noise and people - all day during the day (no privacy). They didn't tell us about this until we were checking in. I brought this up when we checked out and was able to get a substantial discount because of this - they wanted to "make right" the situation.

So ... I'd definitely stay there again. The ocean front units are worth the extra $$'s, lot's of space, windows, etc. - ours was literally 20 steps from the water (and it wasn't even the closest one!).
