“Our 2nd trip here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

This was our second staying here over the past 5 years. We love it! The location simply cannot be beat (especially for the price) -- you are right in town and an easy walk to the beach, as well. We have stayed in the 2-bedroom unit upstairs both times and really enjoy it. It's very comfortable and it's nice to have the living room/kitchen. As others have mentioned, Tahiti Nui is right behind the house, so there is music into the wee hours of the night, but it doesn't bother us. Just like the roosters on this island, there isn't much that can be done, other than bringing ear plugs if you think you'll need them. If you want to be in town, able to walk to the beach, and not pay a fortune, this is the place.

Love staying here but it's in town... the people who complain about the noise need to understand what a deal they are getting to be able to stay between million dollar homes for prices cheaper than a hotel. Jim and Shannon are wonderful and they provide everything... from beach towels to books and a DVD player. Perfect spot for anyone who is just looking to have a great stay in Hanalei. Stayed in the studio twice. Awesome. Free Wifi.

My husband and I stayed in the one bedroom unit and loved the location. It's really easy to walk to town and to the beach. We weren't bothered at all by the late night club next door. We really appreciated the mats and boogie board to take to the beach and absolutely loved staying in Hanalei. Booking was easy over email and we had no trouble checking in or out. Parking by the house couldn't be more convenient.

Although some of the features in the house felt a bit tired and dated, it was certainly confortable enough for our needs. Our only real complaint is that all of the towels in the bathroom had a moldy smell.

Overall a great value.

We stayed at the Vacation house twice now and we were never disappointed. Jim and Shannon keep the house and grounds very clean and everything possible is provided to make your stay a memorable one. All 4 units are very well kept. Yes, it might be a bit loud at times during the night, but hey, so what? who cares when you are on vacations? You have all day to veg out and relax...The location is brilliant with only steps away from Restaurants and shopping and the world's best beach is in 5 minute walking distance. What else can one wish for?...oh yes, I know...more vacations at Jim's and Shannon's Vacation House...

This 4 unit home is perfect for someone who is not into the resort style of vacationing. We stayed here for 8 days and loved every second of from the minute we walked through the door! The location is perfect. You can walk to Hanalei Bay in less than 5 minutes and you are across the street from the famous Bubba's Burgers and all the other amazing restaurants and cool little shops. A short drive to Tunnels and Ke'e beach to where the trail head start to hike the Napali coast.

I don't understand how anyone can give this place a bad review? Have you guys seen the prices for what you are getting in Hanalei? You cant get a place this nice for this price! Yes there is a small restaurant/bar called Tahiti/Nui which place loud music but all you have to do is turn on your fan and it drowns out the noise. I didn't hear a thing. It didn't bother us one bit! If anything that bothered me more is the locals with their thumping systems in thier cars, but you'll get that anywhere you stay!

They provide coin op laundry and water toys, beach chair and towels, etc. Very accomodating and very comfortable. We went to Costco after we arrived and got food and stocked up so we wouldn't have to spend so much money on food the whole time. The downstairs 2 bedroom has a full kitchen which is very nice and fully stocked including a coffee maker and grinder. A must!!

We highly recommend The Hanalei Vacation House to any & all travelers who are looking for a mellow relaxing vacation in beautiful Hanalei!

Room Tip: Downstairs unit has a full kitchen, not sure about others

We stayed here in November 2011. This place is a house which has been converted to separate apartments. We stayed in the downstairs one bedroom. Two of the windows leaked during a heavy rainstorm. It was late at night and the place was cleaned up while we were out the next day.

Lighting is poor and not well thought out. Bring a small reading lamp if you want to read books. I mostly used my ipod for reading. The yard is beautiful. The location is a short walk to Hanalei Bay (one of the world's best beaches). Hanalei town is fun and there is also a farmer's market, which I recommend you visit.

The major issue with this house is that it backs right on to a superLOUD nightclub. They played until 1 or 2 AM almost every night we were there. I don't know why anyone thinks it's a good idea to allow this kind of racket in a residential neighborhood. I think the owners of Hanalei Vacation House are ripping off the public by not telling people that they are right next to this nightclub. For $100+ a night, this rental is a ripoff.

Room Tip: Bring your best earplugs to try to block out the sound from the nightclub.

We stayed in the 1bdrm unit in November.

The location was great - easy walking distance to everything including Hanalei bay. We spent several days at Hanalei bay and enjoyed swimming, boogie boarding & just hanging out. We also spent some time further north at Ke'e beach and it was pretty easy access.

We did go during a very rainy period and inside the unit it was fairly dark - hard to get things lit. We probably would not have noticed this if it hadn't been so rainy and there were a few hours here & there that we just wanted to stay in & listen to it rain.

Another warning about the rain - they do close the bridge which is the only way to get to Hanalei Vacation house. Again, our decision but one day we chose to head east & get to a beach where there was not a downpour. We thought for awhile that evening we would be finding another place to sleep or staying in our car as the bridge closed. We were fortunate - it reopened that evening.

The biggest downside to this place as lack of sleep. The bed is VERY soft & the local bar & musicians next door are quite loud. I am a very sound sleeper and yet they woke me up 2 of 4 nights there. My husband, who is a light sleeper, was kept up every night with them.

The place was relatively inexpensive so you do get what you pay for. Don't expect deluxe accomodations (we did not) but be aware of the noise.
