“Home away from home !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

I think all the previous reviews some up this B & B perfectly.
We loved it here. Great breakfasts, great rooms, great hosts and great location for exploring the beautiful North Shore of Kauai.
Only a short drive to Hanalei Bay.
Loved meeting the other guests at breakfast and also having use of the kitchen to prepare dinners
We stayed 6 nights and didn't want to leave.
Look forward to going back again some day soon :)
Aloha

Room Tip: All rooms are special. We stayed in both the Guava and Papaya rooms.

Mahalo for your kind words...just love to have folks from Australia visit - Always fun and outgoing. We may just visit your piece of paradise one of these days...if we ever can get away from the B & B.

Aloha, Kirby & Toby

My husband and I stayed here for our 5-night stay in Kauai this past week for our honeymoon and had a blast! The home is really, really nice and has a very unique set up which they designed themselves. The house is up on 20ft pillars (really fun painted elevator available), there are a ton of beach and hiking supplies available, a hot tub, really nice rooms, great breakfasts (with a ton of incredible fresh fruit), and great hosts - Kirby and Toby. The big living room and huge fully-stocked kitchen are all available for guests' use. Toby told great stories and has a really fun, dry personality. I saw that some people on tripAdvisor thought that he wasnt friendly - but my husband and I think that was just a misunderstanding of his personality. He was really warm and we had a lot of fun with Kirby and Toby! There is a huge beautiful parrot named Pretty Girl, and there are a few cats on the premises but they dont go into the rooms or anything (but I can see it could be a problem for those who are seriously allergic). Two of the cats' names are Batman (SUPER sweet) and Conan the Barbarian. How cool is that!?!

The B&B is located off of Hanalei Bay and near the Kalalau Valley Trailhead, wet and dry caves, and the adorable / funky town of Hanalei. We stayed in the Papaya room and loved our shockingly beautiful view of the mountains. If you like to stay in places slightly off-the-beaten path as opposed to places in touristy town centers, this is the place for you.

We were really sad to leave...

Room Tip: we loved the Papaya room for a really amazing view of Kauai's mountains and the nice garden out...

My wife and I had a marvelous stay with Kirby and Toby last October. Our room in in the Papaya Suite was very comfortable and the memory of Toby's breakfasts can still bring a content smile to my face these many months later. We greatly enjoyed the sweet calm of their location outside of Hanalei, that also gave us easy access to the many treasures of Kaua'i. Of these many treasures, one special one was our hosts at Hale Ho'o Maha, Kirby and Toby, who helped us experience the true meaning of Aloha! This B&B is a jewel!

We appreciated Kirby and Toby's many kindnesses, the terrific home cooked breakfasts (mmm macadamia nut pancakes). It rained for 3 solid days non stop when we were there, which was a drag. But the hosts were sunny and warm (if a bit quirky). That said, I thought this place was in Hanalei - it's in Hanea - about 15 minutes up the road... near Tunnels. I wish we'd known we could have used the kitchen before arriving, a big plus... another plus, beach towels, chairs, boogie boards and snorkel gear - all free of charge. The set up is great and I imagine had we not been rained out, the location would have been ideal - sadly we drove over an hour and a half to PoiPu most days to try to catch some sun.

Room Tip: We stayed in Guava. Great shower. Also complimentary toiletries and unlimited towels.

Thank you sooo much for your kind words. Just to let you know that our 'district' is in Hanalei-that is where our only post office is located. We are actually in Wainiha (not Haena). These are sub-districts on the Northshore. I believe our Google map indicates that we are not in the 'town' of Hanalei.
We understand that it can rain here during our winter months, but we have very little control over the weather...that is up to a higher power. We hope you can return and visit our small piece of paradise during the spring or summer. We enjoyed your company and conversations.

Aloha, Kirby & Toby

If you are planning on spending some time on the northern side of the island, this is the spot to do it. We were here for four nights and the location was nearly perfect and as described in other reviews Toby and Kirby were quite the characters. I have to completely disagree with any of the negative reviews previously posted. Absolutely awesome breakfasts and great amenities. Also a good launching point for some of the northern hiking locations. Thank you for helping to make our vacation awesome

We stayed in the guava suite, which was truly beautiful in all details. More generally, you really feel like the whole place was designed to make you feel comfortable: access to a big kitchen and all its appliances, a huge living room where you can share tips with other guests or you can prefer enjoying your private balcony. And also some small but important details: you can use wash machine and dryer and use a printer, which is so useful to print out boarding passes or the map of your day trip. Kirby and Toby were wonderful hosts, really helpful without being intrusive and great breakfast that changes everyday. Excellent stay!

This place is very charming, great location with delightful hosts. I read the negative tripadvisor posts, and strongly disagree. Toby was very friendly and made us great breakfasts, Kirby was very helpful with booking tours. We stayed in the pineapple room and had no problem with the round bed (my husband is 6'4"). Yes they have 4 beautiful cats, but I only saw 3 (1 in the office & 2 on the outside stairs). I am slightly allergic to cats and had no problem. They have snorkeling equipment and chairs you can take to the beach. Their hot tub was relaxing plus after a long day on the beach. I would definitely recommend this B&B.
