“Somewhere between great and incredible.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2010

HGVC at Waikoloa, Great vacation accommodations and an excellent staff. Our suite overlooking the golf course was spacious and had everything we needed. We arrived too early for checkin but the doorman, Dustin, offered to take our groceries and bags up to the room even though it had not been cleaned yet. He put things in the fridge for us so it would not stay in the trunk of the car for hours. We had just missed a shuttle bus to the Hilton Hotel one day and one of the other doormen offerred to take us to the end of the Bay Club property in the golf cart. It was only a couple minutes from there to the Hilton Hotel. Excellent service.

Nice pool, not really big but more character than what we saw at the Bay Club next door. Great for kids, small slide and fountains. The Hilton Hotel has spectacular pools with big waterfalls and slides. Staying at the HGVC enables you to go there (free shuttle bus or 15 minute walk) and ejoy the pools, snorkeling lagoon, and watch the dolphins.

The entire area is beautiful, lots of flowers and palm trees. We saw goats in the road near King's Land. They hang around the golf course in the afternoon.
The Queen's Market on the property has what you need but a short trip to the Safeway, Costco, or Walmart south of the airport will save you money on groceries.
All in all, the HGVC is a beatiful place to stay.

We stayed at HGVC Waikoloa during spring break . We loved the island, but more than that we loved the resort. The loved the location, the rooms and peace and quiet. We also liked our access to the hotel. My younger son loved the hotel pools. We dined there once and attended the luau.We also swam with dolphins, which was a great experience. We were glad that we weren't staying at the hotel, because it was loud and crowded for our taste. Our setting was very peaceful. The room was beautiful and very comfortable. Since we stayed a week there was room service in the middle of the week. Everything was very clean and new. We had lots of space, our room was opening into the garden. It was very easy to get to the grill and eat the food hot. The supermarket at the Queen's Shops is very expensive. We went to Kona for the farmers market and bought fresh vegetables and fruits. There is a fish market close to the harbor in the north and another one at the other harbor close to the Kona airport. We bought grass fed beef and sausages from the supermarket at the Queen's Shops. We paid the top dollar but meat was extremely good. There is a shuttle service from the Club to the hotel every half hour and another shuttle from the hotel to the shops. A lot of people were walking or jogging to the shops and catching the shuttle back. If you want to see the volcanoes, waterfalls and go different places you need to rent a car. The resort has its own golf course for the golf lovers. Actually there are 3 or 4 golf courses in the Waikoloa Resort village. There is a great beach (Hapuna) when you drive 5 miles north. We tend to try new places each time we travel but I'd like to go back couple more times to HGVC Waikoloa in this lifetime.

Well appointed units, all seemed new. The room with two double beds was very small and dark. We had a problem with the stove (it kept beeping) and maintenance came right away, but was never able to fix it so we turned the breaker off. Also, we smelled smoke, like electrical smoke, one night and a few hours later the smoke alarms went off. Kinda scary, seems it was coming from the outside hall lighting, so they turned them off and said all was okay.? No call to fire department. Glad it was my last night!

Pool at King's Land was available to us and was beautiful. Definitely stop by!
We used the fitness center, open access, all new equipment. No problems here!
One night they had live music and a hula dancer at the HGVC pool; $5 Blue Hawaiins, kids swam, perfect end to the day!

Had to drive/shuttle (we did both) to the Hilton resort or WVillage to do anything. Our parking was validated at the resort each time so we didn't have to pay, but I guess hotel vacationers pay $15/day. We never felt like outsiders or anything, all Hilton resort amenities were open to us. No beach, but oceanside is outstanding with the lava rocks. My kids (11,9,6) loved it. Beaches are so close and are so fantastic, why stay at a resort anyway? I would never stay here and merely stay on resort, there is so much to offer off campus. The little tram and boat are ridiculous, in my opinion, and extremely slow. Kinda ruins the whole "Hawaii" thing for me. It is a massive resort, not unlike others we've been at, so prepare to walk or take the transportation offered!

My children loved Dolphin Quest. Pools were very fun, but water was cold in March/April. Food service was fine, prompt, affordable. We had dinner one night at the nicer restaurant and it was fabulous... get there by 5pm for a table outside near the ocean. Can't be beat!!

Personally, I wouldn't come here again. There are other resorts nearby that are more natural, quiet, authentic. This is a resort that would be found in Florida or Mexico. I did not come to Hawaii for that. If you like the resorty vacation, then go for it! There is nothing wrong with this Hilton!

Awesome property, lots of pools, water slide, dolphin discovery (pricey) and snorkeling, golfing and lots of places to hide away for peace and quiet.

The resort is expansive and has something for everyone. Will entertain children with endless hours of sun, water sports at the lagoon sand beach, multiple slide pools, and dolphin quest lagoon with 13 dolphins! Multiple reading spots overlooking one of the most beautiful coasts in the world, beautiful landscaping, art work, statues throughout the grounds. Exceeded our expectations beyond description. Also, while large and supplied with onsite boats, trams to go across campus, also very easy to walk across using the pathways from one end to the other. We will definitely return!

I wouldn't choose this hotel for just a family trip, but worked surprisingly well to combine all three. it's well set up for kids, and adults, and though it's very spread out over a large area, it didn't seem overcrowded or difficult to navigate. Sometimes it's a long walk, or ride from one area to another. Food options are very limited, but other options are available on the complex at two shopping areas and another hotel(Marriott Beach). It has amazing water options: several pools, a lagoon for snorkeling & other water toys, several slides, sand-based shallow pool, dolphin swim. Towels available poolside, but also 'to go' at parking valet desk, a nice option for a day at the beach.
Major negative: very LOUD birds nested in the atrium area outside lagoon towers, awakening/disturbing all guests at 4:00am every morning. Earplugs requried! many people asked to move to other towers because of this. Light sleepers, request Palace or Ocean buildings. It's that bad!
