“Fabulous Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

Resort has everything you could want. Food prices, albeit at resort prices, weren't terribly unreasonable. Experiences (lagoon, cabanas, Dolphin Quest, snorkeling, etc.) were all terrific. Only complaint is the $8 "delivery fee" for room service, which is on-top of gratuity, but that's easily avoidable by simply leaving the room.

We stayed at the Hilton Waikoloa Village over Easter this year. We had a great time at the resort. The place is huge with lots to see and do. Great pools. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't really a beach - there is a small one on the lagoon. The coast is too rocky, but beautiful. It's a great location about a 25 minute ride to Kona or Waimea. Our only complaint was that the food at the resort was crazy expensive. So we would walk to the nearby shops in the morning for coffee and go out at night for dinner (which was fine). I just couldn't Imagine staying for the week and eating there.

Room Tip: From our standpoint just about any room is in a great spot with a nice view. Even though we didn...

We stayed at the Hilton for 4 night/5 days. It is gorgeous and huge. Another reviewer said that the biggest drawback is that nobody will want to leave the hotel for other activities. They were so right! The pools are outstanding (waterslides, waterfalls, and hot tubs), the rooms are comfy and the facilities are opulent.

It is a long way from the parking lot for rental cars to the rooms. The tram is slow enough that you will get where you are going much faster by walking. However, the tram is more practical if you are wearing heels or dress clothes, or if you have baggage. The boats only run occasionally, but are fun entertainment.

The lagoon is incredible. It will appeal to children and adults who are nervous about snorkeling in open water as well as more experienced snorkelers who like to get close to fish and other aquatic critters.

The food is superb, but expensive. We splurged and ate once at the Lagoon breakfast buffet. The service is amazing, but it is not practical to eat there daily because of the cost. There is a market within the Waikoloa village with great tasting (and less expensive) food - you'll just have to be willing to walk or bike a mile or take your rental car to eat there.

check-in line was fairly long and only 1 person was working desk .. front desk person seemed to want to do vacation planning for a single couple when a bunch of people were waiting to check in .. after 25 minutes or so, another person came up and was very helpful. Dining prices are ridiculous (even with 'discount' card) .. ex: $14 for an a-la-carte panini?? I know food in hawaii is expensive, but it was just absurd, and quality was mediocre at best. $25/day resort fee AND $27/day self-parking fee is ludacris as well. Luau was rained out, which I find shocking given it's hawaii & staff initially had a 'too bad' attitude, even though we had paid for the luau 'upgrade'. After getting the run around from several staff, we finally got 1/2 of our money back. Price for luau given quality of food/show seemed excessive regardless, but we wanted the experience. $50 for a luau photo taken by someone with a lower model camera than I had with me is absurd as well. What is your cost on that, like $2?? Would it hurt to throw it in to the $250 you are charging people already plus all of the other fee's? Cooling system was inadequate as well. Had maintenance check it, but claimed it was fine. I also don't understand the ac door interlocks. Opening room door does not shut off AC, but opening slider does, even if just for a second, requiring more time for it to cool off again .. I might suggest a delay where it only shuts off after door is open 10 seconds or something? I was frustrated by the fact that this resort seems to command top dollar for everything, which is fine, but the property, while very nice, is definitely starting to show it's age and for the prices being charged, I would expect more upkeep in that area. But .. I would likely still come back to this resort, a few things just frustrated me.

The staff and facilities were wonderful. We were fortunate that our time at this Hilton property on the Big Island was off seasion making everything seem almost private as there were fewer people vacationing that at other times. Perfect for mature adults having a true honeymoon experience. We loved the children we did see, having fun in the pools and experiencing the dolphins. This was also a great base for us to use to explore the island and experience some of the special places on this island. Highly recommend the valet service...which was quick and helpful. Yes...its $5 more per day...but unless you bring your own teenager to run get the car for you...pay the $5 and enjoy the service.

Overall, if you're in the mood for lots of activities, pools, and walking, then stay here. Staff is superb except the 2 ladies in the activities room in the Ocean Tower building. Oh and brings lots of tip money if you valet park and want your room cleaned well. Food is pricey and a 6 pack of beer in the hotel general store is $24. Our room was oceanfront overlooking a golf course and gorgeous. Hubby was happy as they allowed him to smoke on the balcony. They have a nice tram to help you get around this 62 acre property. Rent a car and leave the property for deals on food. We went grocery shopping the first day and ended up 8 miles down the road at a nice state park called Spencer. We grilled and swam in the ocean. Personally I like a quieter atmosphere with less going on, especially walking.

My husband and I just spent 4 nights/5 days at the Hilton in Waikoloa. We stayed in an Ocean Tower, Deluxe Ocean View room.... and it was gorgeous! The resort is huge, there is a tram to take you to and from the different buildings - with that said, it does take quite some time to get anywhere... make sure you have everything with you before you leave your hotel room!

The resort offers many dining options, however, costs add up quickly. Although we liked all of our meals there, you're better off saving some coin by going to Queens VIllage down the road for sandwiches and ice cream.

Our stay included the breakfast buffet. There were plenty of fresh offerings every day. Nothing too spectacular, but we always left with full bellies.

Overall, it was a gorgeous resort. There was plenty to do there, lots of pools and restaurants to visit. We liked it.
