We fully enjoyed our time on resort. Building & Grounds, The lanscaping and grounds of this massive place is just awesome. Beauty everywhere. Specatular views, clean and well maintained. Several small renovation projects were going on showing a commitment for improvements. Rooms, we were in the Ocean towers, our rooms were somewhat dated but they were clean and spacious. We have definitetly stayed in better but they were not as bad as some of the posts I had read. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. We had a great scenic views from our balcony. Service, for the most part was exceptional. Some really great people work hard to make this an awesome expierence. My one complaint on service is they were consistently understaffed behind the bar. It took too long to get served drinks, and I overheard folks getting impatient and rude to staff a few times. Food quality at the resturants and the 3 lounges was very good and again service was excellent. We ate at every restaurant on resort (except for the pizza place which was closed for the week). KPC was by far the favorite both in the food and ocean side atmosphere. I was not dissapointed in any meal.
MUST DO's: Get reservations set up immedatley for KPC oceanfront for 1/2 hour before sunset. Fills up quickly. Take a walk on the ocean front path (between the Hilton and Marriott), great for sunset photo opportunitues. We found a small patch of sand just large enough for two and for the spent the afternoon alone on the "beach" for a change of pace from the pool. Bring a small collaposable cooler, ice with your favorite drinks and beach towels to this spot and you wont be dissappointed (after noon is the best sun). I also suggest water shoes if you're going to venture in the ocean, you will need to nagivate through some rough lava rock and coral terrain at first but a couple of nice ocean pools, surrounded by crashing waves around the lava reef await and they are worth the venture. Also, locate the hot tubs under the waterfalls towards the far side of the resort. I found them on our last day and wish I had located them on our first day.
Be Prepared: If you're not willing to spend 3.50 on a soda, 8 dollars on a beer, 12 dollars on mixed drinks, 18 dollars for a burger and fries, 30 dollars p/p on a breakfast buffet, this place is not for you. I'm sure resourceful people can get through a week here on a budget, with a lot of effort. There are two marketplaces (Kings & Queens) a 15 minute walk away or a 2.00 shuttle one-way but it's not convienient and if you have to worry about it all week then its not a vacation. We met a family that packed a soft sided cooler with lunch and drinks. It worked for them. If you do want to purchase your own food and drink or more reasonably priced souvenirs, go to the ABC Store in the Queen's Marketplace. Aloha and relax.

Aloha! Thank you for your thorough review of your stay at our resort. We appreciate the positive impression that was made with regard to the landscaping and grounds, and we are glad that the room you had in Ocean Tower was clean, spacious and had a comfortable bed and pillows. As you noted, we are working to improve many areas of our resort and are working on plans to update the guest rooms as well (Lagoon Tower has recently completed this update). We are glad that your experience with the restaurant food quality was very good and the service excellent. In general, resorts throughout Hawaii have higher prices for food and beverage offerings, in part to cover the higher cost of doing business here. To help our guests save some money, we have introduced a 10% F&B Savings Card for $29.95 that includes 2 $10 coupons and offers 10% off at all resort restaurants and bars for 7 days. We know that your visit has past, but if you return and for other future guests who read this, the dining card is an excellent option. Once again, thank you for your review and we hope to welcome you back to our Ohana again soon! Mahalo!
