“Good food and wine selection”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2009

I make a point to eat at Merriman's Cafe every time I am on Big Island. I think it has great food, always nice wine choices and atmosphere is good. It is different from the chain restaurants in the area and certainly deserves a visit!

“Better than the Marriott”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2009

Merriman's is not the be all end all of dining in Hawaii. It is a great spot to grab lunch or a simple dinner in Waikoloa which is short on simple easy restaurants. It is also considerably better than many of them (especially the Marriott... DO NOT EAT THERE, honestly). Want something fancier? Go to the Fairmont Orchid, Mauna Kea or the 4 Seasons.

“Best Beef Short Rib Linguini”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2009

My husband ordered their linguini with beef short rib and it was very tasty. I agreed that it was the best beef short rib we have EVER tasted. Too bad that we found this restaurant on our last evening on the Big Island, otherwise we would have gone back to have their beef short rib linguini again. My husband can't stop thinking about that. We also have pineapple and papaya crisp for dessert. Tasted like pineapple crumble with a big scoop of ice cream and that was wonderful too.

“An amazing grilled Mahi-Mahi fish sandwich!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2009

We stayed at The Hilton Waikoloa October 7-13, 2009. We stumbled upon Merriman's Cafe a few days into our trip. We had previously dined at Merrimans in Kapalua on Maui, which is a larger, more upscale restaurant. We decided to try out this cafe, and we absolutely loved our lunch there! We had the most amazing grilled Mahi-Mahi sandwiches! The fish was moist & flaky & very flavorful, served on a very lightly toasted Ciabatta with a spicy Aioli & fresh cilantro. We shared a small mixed greens to start. There was nothing else in the salad besides lettuce & dressing, a slice of tomato or two would have been nice. The prices were reasonable as well. The staff was all very friendly & the service was great. We liked it so much, we made a point to go back before we left the island. :)

“Don't waste your money here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2009

There wasn't much choice at King's shop area so we just went in this one since we don't want to drive to Kona. What a bad choice we made. Service is mediocre, Food was bad and pricy for the quality and quantity they served. Ordered a mushroom pasta with hardly any mushroom I can see and it was soaked in oil. My pasta was just $1 less than the seafood pasta my husband ordered which was salty and doesn't taste good at all.

Better off just going to the Macaroni grill across at Queen's shop for better price and food.
