“Great casual dinner on New Years Eve!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013 via mobile

We had originally planned to stay and have dinner at our hotel for New Years' Eve, but decided that the buffet dinner and after party were more than we wanted. We called quite a few places, including hotels and found that many, if not all, were having special (expensive) menus or buffets. We were very pleased to find that Merriman's Market Cafe was open, and no reservations were needed. We called about 6pm and found a short wait, by the time we got there, there was still only a very short wait. We were given a pager that worked throughout the mall, which was great because when our table was ready, we were at the end of the mall. We had a great, attentive server, good food and a very relaxed New Years' Eve dinner. Thank you!

“More ordinary than expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

Located in a busy shopping center, you will probably have a wait at peak times.

We ordered the grilled fish sandwich (mahi-mahi) and grilled chicken sandwich. Both were good but not outstanding. The menu description said the fish sandwich came with coleslaw but it never arrived. Sides (including french fries) are extra.

The iced tea tasted like dirt so we sent it back. The waitress said other people had said the tea didn't taste good so I'm wondering why they continued to send it out. Iced tea is pretty basic and if you can't get that right what does it say about the overall approach to quality food service?

“Great low key spot in Waikoloa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Wow! My GF an I were both very pleasantly surprised at the quality of food we had at MMP. She had the snapper while I had the Mahi tacos. Both were way more than pleased with our choices. Both of us cleared the plates cleanly to say the least! I'm from San Diego and know good fish tacos. They were right on. She said same of the snapper. In a small outdoor mall so unpretentious and casual but still nice. Friendly staff too.

“Didn't live up to the hype”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

Menu looks very interesting, and ratings online were high. Staff messed up our order; my husband's simple drink tasted gross; I wish they asked you in advance if you were ok with your tuna being extremely rare (grilled fish sandwich is normally cooked through unless they ask you in advance; it was barely seared). Ketchup and mustard were interesting. Pleasant patio. Worth one visit but we wouldn't go again.

“Very overrated!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

Our family was looking for a quiet place for a good lunch on a Sunday and Merriman's looked good and has received good marks. Very over rated and poor food quality and experience. My wife and I had the fish tacos and they were terrible...they had no flavor at all...the outside seating looked great until we were almost carried away by the persistent knats that completely ruined our dining experience. Would not recommend at all!
