“A great hotel to stay at but nothing aboce average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2007

This hotel was a great hotel despite construction last time my family and I were there, about 2 years ago.
I will start of saying the location is great. It has a mall only a 5 minute walking distance away and some local restuarants which are to die for. The lobby was underconstruction but before it was, it was still great. The breakfast buffett is decent, and the rooms are ok. The beds are amazing though, and the t.v has a variety of channels.
They have great internet access I learned on my last trip. While I was suffering from sun poisoning, the free internet near the lobby gave me something to do.
The pool is great and I loved the water slide. Since i havnt been recently I do not know how the new pool is.
The lua is amazing I will say. Dinner and the show have a backdrop of an amazing sunset and you sit at a table with complete strangers, a good way to meet people.
The beach is great, its large and there is usually alot of available chairs. You can see turtles come right up to the beach! Snorkeling of the beach is amazing as well!!

Overall this hotel has alot of good things concerning snorkeling and the beach, as well as the Lau, but otherwise its an average hotel

Overall this hotel is quite nice and I would consider staying there again.

Resort Pros:

Nice renovation
Nice sunsets
Beautiful lobby area
There is a mini fridge in the room
Pool area was very nice with many different zones, waterslide, different pool temperatures, hot tubs.

Nice relaxing areas throughout the area.

Ping pong table.

Close walk through resort to the beach, with beach shack to rent water sports equipmen (snorkel, kayak, water bike, etc.).

There is a Luau at the hotel and you can see it fromn som guest rooms.

Staff is very quick to respond to guests.

Resort Cons:
The rooms are a bit tight.

The is no beach bar, you have to go to the fancy bar that is a little further from the pool.

The poolside menu was strange/innappropriate included items such as: french dip sandwich, wings, soup. It would have been nice to see vegetable crudites, chips & salsa, etc.

There is a $7/DAY parking fee. Seems strange.

There is a $10.95/day Internet fee. I think that charging for Internet has fallen by the wayside. They should also have free hotspots throughtout the hotel.

On the bottom floor of the hotel if you walk past the windows inside on that floor, there are a lot of dead bugs that needs to be vaccuumed probably on a weekly basis.

Tennis courts were closed and you'd need to be shuttled to another hotel.

  • Liked — The pool area was inviting
  • Disliked — Rooms, were nice, but a bit tight.

This resort has recently gone through a very extensive renovation and it is absolutely gorgeous! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are spotlessly clean. The beds are pillow top with a feather bed on top of that. You just sink into it and sleep like a baby. Our package included the buffet breakfast every morning which has a marvelous selection that included cereal, fruit, waffles, omelets, eggs benedict, bacon, sausage, etc. They have two swimming pools, a fitness room, a lovely beach, and beautiful grounds. The Kings' Row shopping center is just across the street and has a few restaurants and some fast-food places as well. Eating at the resort is extremely expensive. We ate there the first night of our stay and it came close to $100 for the two of us. But the food is delicious. We highly recommend this resort and would stay here again.

  • Liked — Great beach and swimming pools
  • Disliked — The restaurant is very expensive.

My wife and I stayed four nights at the Marriott in October 2007. On balance, we were very pleased with the facility. Staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful. The building is very tastefully decorated and smarly built. Our comfortable room was advertised as "garden view" but had a nice partial view of the ocean. One can navigate through the hotel quickly and easily (compared to the Hilton down the block, which is massive and requires mass transit to get around). The saltwater pool setup is wonderful, with an area for kids and a separate pool for adults (where one can swim long laps if so inclined). The shopping center directly across the street is convenient and means one can walk to dinner (several nice restaurants close by). Another plus is the white sandy beach, which is very long and somewhat rare on the Big Island. My criticisms are relatively minor. One is that we were not always able to find shade at the pool side. The hotel needs to create more shade for those of us that don't want to battle melanoma down the road. I would recommend this hotel to virtually anyone looking to spend a few enjoyable days in the Kohala area.

  • Liked — Pool, room, friendly staff
  • Disliked — Not enought shade at pool-side, obligatory resort fee ($20.00/day)

Stayed here for my honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. I am a platinum Marriott member and stayed free with points, but I would have happily paid. What a beautiful room and fantastic service. The place is terrific - my jaw dropped when I walked in the front lobby and I was never disappointed. Definitely going back soon. Loved the pool(s).

When you are on the island a couple of activities not to miss: Hapuna Beach, Mauna Kea, horseback riding, coffee tours, volcano national park. I wouldn't bother with Kona again. We loved the town of Waimea. If in Waimea, eat at Tako Taco and order the lilikoi margarita. Great food for 2 for less than $20. And they say Hawaii is expensive?

We ate at Roy's and it wasn't everything we expected it to be - good, but not great.

The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort is a nice hotel. This was
my first time to the Big Island and I really tried hard to find a nice
hotel with a good rate that had a beach (which is hard to find on
the Big Island) and was no too big to manage. Well, everything
I wanted I found here. We got the AAA rate of 229.00 per night plus a resort fee. The resort fee included some drinks and movies so you really get your money out of the resort fee which
was 20.00 a day. The grounds of this hotel are very beautiful.
There are three pools which are very close together and they
are very relaxing. One of the pools has a sandy bottom area
for the kids. One of the pools in an infinity pool. There is a
small slide which was a lot of fun for kids and adults. From
the pool you walk a bit through volcanic rock (nice path) to get
to the beach area. The beach is just beautiful. We even saw
a few turtles making their way to shore to rest. We did not eat
at the restaurant because we had a car and liked going into
Kona for food. Kona with good traffic is a nice 30 minute drive.
Kona offers lots of good food places. Around the hotel there
is not many options. There is a food court nearby and some
restaurants, but they did not peek our interest. We booked
a pool terrace view room. It was lovely and had a nice view of
the main pool. We were on the 3rd floor and we could see
the ocean in the background. Normally, we stay ocean front,
but when I heard the beach was off a bit from the pool I thought
it might not been seen too well at the ocean view price so we booked the pool terrace view and staying up a little on the 3rd floor we loved our price and our view. The Hilton which is a
huge hotel is nearby . We chose the Marriott over the Hilton
because we wanted a hotel that was easy to manage. We
would stay here again.

The Marriott is a beautiful resort with a 2 large pools (one with waterfall & slide) and expansive beach with plenty of chairs & palm trees. We had a pool & ocean view & it was perfect.
One added feature is the Kings Shops right across the street. There is a small food court for quick inexpensive meals such as Dairy Queen & Subway. Also, a little shop with groceries including donuts, etc.
Everything you need was right there. The resort was not overly crowded & easy to get to everything. The spa is really nice as well. This will be were I stay again next time.
If you want to visit the Hilton just ask the van driver to drop you off there. This way you can do the Dolphin Experience & venture out to more restaurants.
