“Expected better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

Between the reviews on here and the description in my guide book, I expected more of "one of the island's best beaches." The shoreline is a bit rocky in parts, and the beach was very crowded with tourists and lots of kids. Not a peaceful, tranquil location. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to visit this beach.

“Sweet Beach!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

Hidden gem! This beach is easy to find and has plenty of parking. There are facilities available for beach goers. You are likely to find plenty of turtles combing the long salt and pepper beach. There is some decent snorkeling on the right side of the beach. This beach is protected by an offshore reef so it is generally safe for swimming. There is a stand that offers opportunities to rent water equipment, etc. Check it out, you won't regret it!

“Best beach for sunset photography”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

If you want to capture a great tropical sunset, set up behind the pond on the south side and get the pond, palm trees, and the ocean.

If you are up for a hike, head south down the beach. You are soon away from the crowds and spotting lots of turtles. At one point, when you can no longer walk the beach take the trail through the trees. Plenty more beach once you get through the trees.

Heading north, there is a shack where can rent stand-up paddle boards. The bay is great for beginners if it isn't windy.

“Lovely beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

This beach is easily accessible and has plenty of parking. There is rest room facilities, a local restaurant and trees for shade. The beach is certainly family friendly. The guests from the near by resorts also make use of this beach. It is in Waikoloa area. After shopping at Kings Shops or the Queens Market Place, go to the "A" beach to relax.

“Nice sand beach with lots of activities.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

This is one of those rare sand beaches on this island. It is a public beach with ample parking and lounge chairs.

One of the best things about it is that Ocean Sports operates a concession there, and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays they offer a super deal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.--For $30 you can use any and all equipment they rent, including kayaks, hydrobikes, paddle boards and snorkels. As a bonus they also include the 30 min. glass bottom boat ride over the coral reefs.

We did everything and got to see a couple of frisky manta rays frolicking around the reef, along with several schools of colorful fish.

Lava Lava Beach Club is within easy walking distance from A- Beach. Nice to take a beach break and walk over for lunch or happy hour.
