“Nice, quiet beach, close to resorts.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

'A' beach is in a convenient locations. It isn't a surfing place -- waves are very modest. Typically pretty quiet. The sand (as is the case in nearly all the beaches on the Big Island) is not 'soft' -- not like say Waikiki on Oahu. So if visiting, it makes sense to have mats or beach chairs. There is a bit of shade from the palm trees. There are also facilities (bathrooms and wash off showers) available.

“Best bay beach on island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012

Great for swimming without having to worry about incoming waves. Not as great a bay beach as Princeville Bay on Kauai because entry and exit involves a bit of rough lava in shallow water, but with care you pick over it carefully and have great swimming. And in the winter Princeville Bay is often too rough for relaxed swimming whereas this beach is great in the winter.

“Small, quaint beach with easy access near Marriot, Hilton, and King's Land”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

Even if entering through the public parking lot, you can use the Marriot chairs. There's a water sports rental company on the beach where you can rent snorkel gear, go on a glass bottom boat ride, or book larger excursions. Sand is a bit rocky, not a soft white sand beach. A lot of boat traffic, but decent swimming, so-so snorkeling.

“beautiful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

We stayed at the Marriott which is right on this bay. Not the best snorkeling area but still a nice bay. The water was beautiful and it was very peaceful here. A must visit area!!!!

“Great place to see turtles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

Head away from the Marriott and you'll find small (somewhat rocky) coves with gorgeous blue green waters and slumbering turtles. Beach near Marriott is more swimmable but not as clear and pretty.
