Description: Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant, located in the quiet village of Volcano, sits on 5 acres of gardens and gazebos and native forest. This hotel restaurant features a large fireplace, local art, koa tables, and is open nightly. Chef/owner Albert Jeyte blends flavors from his European background with farm, ranch and seafood products from Hawaii, the surrounding Pacific and elsewhere. Volcano Village is at 3700 feet elevation and evenings are often cool and misty. The historic fireplace welcomes guests with it's cheery fire. Home made soups and breads tease the appetite. Albert specializes in unusual game...venison, antelope, rabbit, duck. The biggest sellers are local fish dishes; ahi, ono, mahimahi and the exotic Tristan lobster. A large wine list complements the eclectic menu.

“Great breakfast, fantastic staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

We had complimentary breakfast at the restaurant during our three night stay at the lodge. We had actually planned on having at least one dinner at the restaurant as well, however my girlfriend became ill during the trip and we had to cancel.

The complimentary breakfast includes either orange juice or fresh papaya in addition to an entrée on the menu. We had both the pancakes and a couple of different egg dishes during our stay, all of which were delicious. The pancakes were served with both maple and coconut syrup choices, the latter of which was to die for and had me coming back for the pancakes twice.

As I mentioned earlier, my girlfriend became ill on day 2 of our stay which kept her from being able to attend breakfasts. The staff quickly picked up on this and offered to send me back to the room with the breakfast option of our choice for her to have at home. We declined, however they were kind enough to send us home with a "toast platter" both mornings which were greatly appreciated.

Really bummed that we didn't get to enjoy dinner which I'm sure is excellent, but this establishment gets an A+ for quality of both the food and staff. The dinner is a little on the expensive side based on the menu, but not unreasonable by Hawai'i standards. By far the best dining option in Volcano!

“A "Cool" Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

Christmas in Hawaii is warm and sultry down on the coast, and we love it! But, Volcano Village, at around 3800 feet, can be downright chilly! Walking into the Kilauea Lodge, with its ski-chalet ambiance and the smell of the crackling fire brought a real feeling of Christmas to us ex-pats from the mainland. Ask for a table by the window and you will view beautiful, lush gardens while enjoying the cozy atmosphere indoors. Our server was highly professional, knowledgeable, attentive and friendly, while my Eggs Benedict was perfectly prepared and delicious! All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the prices are on a par with any upscale restaurant. Will definitely be back for dinner. Oh, and heads-up to tourists visiting the volcano: dress in layers as it can be downright cold at that altitude!

“Cozy...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

My husband and I had lunch and they have a menu that changes daily. We had an antelope burger and a Salad Nicoise with fresh caught Ahi. Unfortunately, the Ahi was overcooked and cut as one would typically cube Ahi for poke, and I was expecting it to be seared and sliced. But overall the food was delicious and the drinks were as well. Be prepared to be served Island time - in other words, don't come famished because it may take a while before you're ackowledged.

“Love the breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Stopped by for brunch at the restaurant and was worried about the wait but we were seated right away. Katy was our waitress and she told us about their holiday tradition of decorating objects and customers voting on their favorites. Our food was fantastic and perfect start for a day at the park. I love the decor and relaxed atmosphere. Nice mix of people-locals, older couples, large families with young kids and couples on vacation.

“Plainly well prepared”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Nice variety of food. Very well prepared. A chef who knows his ingredients. Watch the little store: prices might be much higher than other places on the Big Island.
