Description: Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant, located in the quiet village of Volcano, sits on 5 acres of gardens and gazebos and native forest. This hotel restaurant features a large fireplace, local art, koa tables, and is open nightly. Chef/owner Albert Jeyte blends flavors from his European background with farm, ranch and seafood products from Hawaii, the surrounding Pacific and elsewhere. Volcano Village is at 3700 feet elevation and evenings are often cool and misty. The historic fireplace welcomes guests with it's cheery fire. Home made soups and breads tease the appetite. Albert specializes in unusual game...venison, antelope, rabbit, duck. The biggest sellers are local fish dishes; ahi, ono, mahimahi and the exotic Tristan lobster. A large wine list complements the eclectic menu.

“Cosy dining near the volcano”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

Great food and lovely atmosphere near the volcano. German chef, I had the Hasenpfeffer (rabbit) and it was good. It came with soup or salad and i had the duck soup which was also tasty. Yes, it's pricey but a nice splurge before or after a hike!

“Great lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

We stopped here for an early lunch prior to some major hiking in Volcano Nat Park. Had burgers and appetizers. Was one of the best burgers I've had on the big island. Friendly staff and good atmosphere!

“A pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012 via mobile

We went here with some hesitation since it looked a little upmarket and expensive for us - but we were late and everything else in Volcano seemed to be closed so we were out of options. However, we were very pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is something like a hunting/skiing lodge, with a big open fire and wooden interior so, even though we were still in hiking kit, we didn't feel like the underdressed visitors. The service was excellent, even though the place was packed, and the prices were reasonable - $29 for a (gorgeous!) soup (or salad) and excellent main course. (To give you an idea of portion size, the duck a l'orange is half a duck!) In a small place like Volcano, this is a real gem.

“The lone voice of disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2012

I really hate to be a downer about this restaurant because I really, really wanted to love this place to celebrate hubby's birthday. Made reservations way ahead of time so we were not walking In off the street. Restaurant was pretty full, but not completely, but we were seated (as we discovered) by the bathroom. It is somewhat cleverly disguised, but just bothered me that they thought putting a table next to the screen disguising the bathroom was somehow acceptable to some dumb accepting tourists.menu, on the surface, was interesting. Pricey, but understandable. Service was spotty, but biggest disappointment was that the food was just plain BORING and pretty tasteless. We started with the Brie and it literally had no taste. I ordered the Paulette's of beef and all I could taste was fried I don't know what. It was tasteless something but certainly didn't taste like any prime rib I'd ever had. Hubby ordered seafood Mauna Kea-- he's pretty easy going and commented that it was just okay.
Grounds and room have eye appeal, but food was so just okay... Next time we'll just drive to Hilo and love on the food at the wonderful Cafe Pesto.

The kitchen is just perfect, but the service was the worst we never had. And we finally paid without finishing our dishes and run away! After waiting for half an our to be seated standing outside under the rain, we finally got exactly 2 minutes to choose and order. Then noting happened. No bread, no water, no wine, nothing for almost one hour. And suddenly everything came at the same time. Starters, entrees, cocktails, wine, the table was covered by what we ordered and what we didn't...we started eating and I must say I had the most incredible lamb cooked in the fire place !! Tender, juicy, tasty. But we were so stressed that we didn't enjoy anything, didn't finish, payed and quit. Never, never again!
