“Excellent Stay in the Rainforest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2010

The location of this hotel could not be beat. The drive to the Volcanos National Park entrance was under five minutes. The room was really large and extremely quiet and comfortable. The owners were nice and very accomodating when we had to change our travel dates fairly the last minute due to an illness.

It's very very clean. We loved all the woodwork and interesting rooms. It has a really nice common area to meet other guests. All the people who stayed there when we were there were really fun. I think you should stay here.

We really enjoyed our stay in one of the corner rooms. It is like your own private rain forest view. Loved having our morning coffee by the windows. The cabin itself gave the feeling of being pretty remote although we heard some sounds from the room next to us. The walkway leading to the cabin was enchanting! I loved walking back and forth from the car :-)

The room was well stocked - had all the fixings for coffee (though no decaff), paper plates, paper towels, a microwave, fridge etc. Not a place to cook but definitely perfect for heating up some leftovers.

There was a slightly musty smell when one entered the room - this is understandable, given the humidity in the area. There was a de-humidifier in the room that was a little loud but did a good job defogging the windows. The towel warmers were another great touch.

There are a few eating establishments near by. Thai Thai was closed but we had breakfast at Lava Rock Cafe one day which was okay. Breakfast at Lava Rock is the same price as the breakfast you can get at Kiluea Lodge which has a much, much nicer ambiance and amazing banana pancakes (although they seem to ignore you a bit if you are not a lodge guest).

Overall highly recommend it if you are spending time in Volcanoes National Park. We chose to stay here over Hilo and we are glad we made that decision!

Booked last minute directly with the owner in February 2010. We stayed in a massive corner room that 2 double beds, lounge area & private bathroom. I would happily stay here again & would recommend this place to others. My only gripe would be that it took ages for the hot water to get going which means a huge waste of water (the island has very low rainfall but I think that is just the Kona area) while you wait. Had a great sleep, beds were comfy, cozy & warm and in the morning there is free coffee & tea ready for you.
Apart from that it was very nice, Volcano town is a cute little place & the park is amazing. A must see area of Hawaii.

We found this inn by searching through other traveler's reviews. It was really inexpensive (about $59 per night if staying for 4 nights or more) and the location was only about 2 miles from Volcano National Park (the only other hotel I know that is closer to the Park was the Volcano House and that is closed for the time being.) At first, we were concerned about the low price considering other hotels in the area were over $100 a night. However, it turned out to be the perfect place to stay.

The owner was very nice and showed us around the inn grounds and our room. He even let us check in early. The rooms were not huge but a good size and the bed was actually one of the most comfortable ones I have ever slept in.

This inn does not have a restaurant or anything, but they do have a universal area where you can make your own food. We went to the local grocery store and picked up some bagels and fruit and made our own breakfast in the mornings. They do have a toaster and fresh coffee/tea, and the owner even put out fresh muffins in the morning.

I would 100% recommend this inn to anyone needing to stay in the area.

This place has its own charm and warmth about it. The floors are immaculate, shiny, beautiful wood throughout. The design of the rooms are interesting as well. We were in a bigger room that had 2 queens. The light fixtures are eclectic and add to the unique charm of the place, a nice touch. They serve muffins and coffee in the morning. They have free wifi and a mac if you did not bring your own. They are about 5 minutes away by car from the Volcano park. DO NOT CONFUSE this place with out names that like to use Inn.. like Inn of Volcano... NOT THE SAME.. The owner has a wealth of information about the area as he's been there for 21 years so ask away. I did.

We stayed at the Volcano Inn on our recent trip to Volcano national park and have to say that we loved our room and had no complaints. We booked one of the 'corner rooms' and the open view of the surrounding jungle landscaping was beautiful, the room was actually located away from the main building which gave it a great private cabin feel. The rooms were clean and we definitely got more for the price we paid than expected, the location so close to the park was also a huge plus. The service was also great allowing us to check-in early and check out late without any hassle, which was greatly appreciated due to the exhausting schedule we put ourselves on.
