“simple hotel with excellent atmosphere in nice location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We were looking for an affordable place close to the Volcano national park and within the rainforest area - and we were extremely satisfied with choosing the Volcano Inn!
It has no real hotel service (no room service or daily housekeeping), and some parts of the room equipment are rather simple, but the rooms are spacious, with huge window fronts directly towards the rain forest, and the location at the end of volcano village is both very quiet and convenient.
The hotel has a large, very cozy common/breakfast room with open fireplace.
Friendly staff.
Book a hiking tour to the lava flow with Fabienne - it's worth it!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Volcano Inn. We stayed in the A'A room, which had huge picture windows of the surronding tree fern forest, a comfortable bed, microwave and refrigerator. The room was very quiet, reasonably priced, and very convenient to Hawaiian Volcano National Park.

Room Tip: Try to arrive before dark!

We found this place in the "Hawaii Big Island Revealed" guidebook, (an excellent book, by the way), and it turned out to be an exceptional deal. They have several venues, but we stayed in the main building, in one of the corner rooms, and it was very big, (a king and a queen-sized bed), open, lots of light, very clean, and for less than 80 bucks per night. One caveat- no credit cards, and the only ATMs in town are inside businesses that close early. They also serve a great breakfast, (also cash only), and the cook even gave us her recipe for their whole-wheat waffles. Can't beat that! And, it's within a mile to the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Room Tip: See if you can get the Mauna Loa room- it's up a couple flights of stairs from the parking lot...

Wife and I spent a night here. The lady at the front desk was great. She checked us in quickly and gave us useful information about the area.

The room was clean and spacious.

They have a hot tub!

I liked how this place was nestled in a rain forest setting.

We stayed at the Volcano Inn for three nights while exploring the Kilauea National Park. Our room, located across the highway from the main building, was tucked into a beautifully landscaped fern forest. The owner wisely oriented the picture windows in the room so that they looked out over the plants and not another apartment. Fresh Kona coffee for breakfast and ample supplies of shampoo and soap was further evidence of their thoughtful attention to details and, all this, at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend wandering away from the beaches and staying here while exploring the fascinating volcano.

We spent 3 nights here. I wojuld reccomend anyone who has more than one week on the BI to spend at least 3 nights. The price is very fair. The room was very clean. This is a family business, and it shows that they take much pride in it. The location can't be beat! The views can't be beat! We stayed in a basic room that was right off the coffee / lounging room. All was quiet.

Room Tip: The basic rooms are great. I am sure the fancy corner window rooms are better, but the view was gre...

What's not to love? Cute, clean cabins surrounded by tree fern forest, birds singing, hot tub, good privacy from other guests. Love it here, wish we could stay longer!

Just make sure you take your shoes off. "There will not be mud on this floor!"

Room Tip: Corner room! You're surrounded by Jurassic park-like trees and ferns. Includes microwave, toas...
